Chapter 16

It had been a few weeks and the Hawkmoth rebellion had grown and spread.

Tips and advice on emotion control were collected and listed on a paper and handed out all around the school (with Mr. Damacles' permission of course).

Alya and her team made a website with the same tips and a choice to sign up and become a member. All news and updates on the Hawkmoth Rebellion, which they called HAR (there were different opinions on what the 'A' stood for), were put there along with videos. They would join in group chats and discuss ways to make France a better place. It was a huge success.

One day Danny ran down the stairs, happily carrying his backpack and jumping the last four steps. His butterflies caught on to his good mood and flitted around in a frenzy. Danny plopped down on a stool by the counter and started eating his cereal.

Maddie was the only one in the kitchen to witness his grand entrance. She regarded her son with an amused and satisfied smile. She was happy the moving hadn't affected him negatevily, as she had worried it would. In fact, he seemed much more at ease in France than he had in Amity Park, where he often would come trudging down the steps late and exhausted and usually grumpy. She chuckled, her son's happy mood was contagious. "Danny, calm down your akumas. I can't see anything through this cloud."

"Sorry, mom." The butterflies slowly stopped flapping around as much and were sent to the living room behind Danny so they wouldn't bother anyone.

Maddie smiled as she finished her husband's fudge and sat down in front of her son. "How's school going? The akumas are multiplying. Is it natural reproduction or has that man been bothering you again."

Danny made a face. "They don't reproduce." He glanced at the butterflies suspiciously. "Do you?" The Papis flapped their wings and Danny's face relaxed with relief. "See?"

Maddie breathed a small laugh, but frowned at the remaining option. "Are you sure we shouldn't run more tests? I'm worried about what this could mean for your development. You're still a growing boy."

The boy brightened. "Did you notice? I grew half an inch since last week!"

Maddie huffed at the obvious way Danny was avoiding the question, but before she could say anything Jack came in with just a little less enthusiasm than Danny. "Good morning!" He sat down next to Danny and started munching on his fudge. "I finished the Fenton extractor, Mads!"

Maddie nodded. "We will try it out on the next sighting."

Danny stopped eating and glanced at them with furrowed eyebrows. "What is it? It doesn't sound good."

Jack grinned. "It's a machine that will extract the akuma from the victim like a ghost overshadowing your sister."

Somewhere on the floor above, Jazz yelled: "I am not a ghost!"

Danny frowned worriedly. "It won't hurt the akuma or the person, will it?"

His parents paused in a way that made Danny worry more.

"We can't be sure, sweetie," Maddie responded as she bit her lip. "This is new territory for us. Nothing is certain."

Danny huffed. That was true. He would rather they didn't do anything unless it was certain it would work without any bad side effects, but there was no way of knowing unless they tried.

Jack grinned hopefully. "If we could examine your akumas, then we might learn more..."

"No!" Danny said sternly. "For the last time, you won't dissect them or put them through tests of any kind." His Papis flitted around restlessly, and tried to hide behind the boy.

Jack sighed. "Alright, we won't, Danny. I promise."

Maddie put her hands under her chin to be able to look at him better. "You can always tell us more about what you have learned about them." She smiled. "Your input helped us a lot before."

Danny relaxed and smiled. "Well, I wasn't about to let you guys walk around with guns thinking there was a butterfly infestation in France." Danny had made sure to enlighten his folks on the real problem in Paris when he found out they were planning on destroying the butterflies that were terrorising the country.

He sat down more comfortably. "Turns out they aren't like normal butterflies at all. They like the cold and they don't eat nectar or whatever. They always stay by me and don't wander off."

"I still find that amazing," Jack commented breathlessly. "I can't imagine how you managed to train them."

"I didn't," Danny shrugged as he took another bite of his cereal. He pursed his lips and stood up to ruffle through the cabinets. "I told you. They just stay by me because I apparently have some of their energy in me."

Maddie watched as her son grabbed the sugar and poured some on his cereal. "Are you sure it isn't affecting you?"

"Not in a bad way, mom." Danny said exasperated. "I'm alright."

"You've never had a sweet tooth before. Now you're pouring sugar into your cereal."

Danny blinked, as if he just realized how weird that was. He shrugged as he took another bite. "So, I'm craving more sugar. That's all, I promise. Besides, maybe that doesn't have anything to do with the akumas."

Jack furrowed his eyebrows as he thought hard on something he had learned. "I heard that a butterfly's diet consists on mostly sugar."

Danny huffed. "Ok maybe it does have something to do with it. Whatever."

"At least let us do a scan, darling," Maddie pleaded. "To make sure you're doing alright and your sugar level isn't too high for your systems."

"Alright, fine." Danny drank the milk and stood to put it in the sink. "So tell me what you guys found out recently."

Jack brightened and looked up from his plate of fudge. "Every victim seems to have one common goal. They are attracted to the other super powered beings. They don't have different obsessions like ghosts, but they do have a theme."

Danny nodded, smiling as he listened to his dad blabber exitedly. He used to not be interested in what they said or their theories as it was mostly about something he already knew or didn't understand and didn't feel like trying. However the last year he had spent in Amity Park he started paying more attention. The theories were quite amusing to listen to and to his own surprise he learned more about ghosts through his parents. Especially after they had finally gone past the fase in which they believed no ghost was capable of thinking past their instinct or of having morals.

Danny remembered what he had told Hawkmoth about his parents neglecting him and his sister, but that hadn't been completely true. He had been bitter about how he had had to live all those years back. In fear of his own parents. Now, he knew they would accept him no matter what. But he found no use in telling them about his secret now. There were no ghosts here. Besides, he had lived with not telling them for so many years, he didn't want to change the situation he had grown so accostumed to.

Jack continued his speech, not realizing his son had zoned off. "They don't have any basic powers like ghosts. Apparently, they only have one specific power, but they are able to cause massive destruction with it." He paused to think. "Danny-boy?"

Danny was shaken out of his thoughts and raised his eyebrows at his dad. "What?"

"How do you feel when an akuma overshadows you?"

Danny frowned. "It's not overshadowing. The akumas themselves have no real conscience. They're sent by this guy, who then talks to the victim."

Maddie nodded. "We know, Danny. What Jack wants to know is if it completely erases your memories. Or if you have any idea what you're doing when being controlled by that guy or if your will is completely wiped away."

Danny paused at that, he sat down again and slumped a bit in his seat. The thought completely sobering him up. "All it does to me is form a telepathic connection with the Hawk guy. I can feel him trying to force a transformation on me, but I have no idea if it would take my will away. My friends have told me they don't remember anything about the time they were akumatataist, but I don't know much apart from that."

Maddie nodded, taking in the information. "We will try to figure that out later. As for you, young man. I do not want to see those butterflies multiplying and we'll do that scan after school."

Danny smiled. "It's not like I can stop Hawkmoth from sending me them." In truth, Hawkmoth hadn't bothered Danny since a long time. It was Danny who kept looking for trouble, but he wouldn't tell them that.

It was at that moment that Jazz hurried down the stairs. She quickly sat down and rushed to prepare her breakfast.

"Hurry up, Jazz." Maddie frowned at her. "Don't want you late. Don't read books in the morning."

"I wasn't reading!" Jazz was quick to defend herself. But she couldn't fool anyone on the table.

"Then what took you so long?"

"I was just brushing my hair. Do you know how much work it is to take care of it?" She stroked her long hair for emphasis.

"Mmh." Maddie decided to leave it and put Jack's empty bowl in the sink. "Danny, you better get going now."

"Ok." He stood up and grabbed this backpack, but was stopped by his sister calling after him.

"Wait a second. Care to explain this?!" She quickly turned on her phone to a page already open and shoved it in Danny's face.

He blinked before realizing what he was looking at. "How should I know what that is?"

"Oh please, Danny. This is a webpage about a revolution against the big evil bad guy. It has your name written all over it." She scrolled down furiously. "Literally! It also has your address and schedule and phone number."

Their parents perked up.

"What did you do?" Maddie asked with a raised eyebrow. "Don't put such information on the internet. It is incredibly dangerous."

Danny huffed. "Not everyone is a kidnapper who stalks children, mom."

"Enough are, Daniel. You better make sure to take that down."

"What's this I hear about a revolution," Jack asked with interest.

Danny smiled widely, his bright mood returning. "You know how those akumas are attracted by sadness and anger? Well me and my school friends started a campaign to help others on how to deal with those emotions so they have less chance of getting akumasized. We're also starting protests against Hawkmoth and making up stupid names for him. And looking for ways to help Ladybug and Chat Noir to deal with crowd control and other things like that."

Maddie tried to stop the smile forming on her lips at her elated son and instead adopted a frown of concern. "Don't get too close to those supers yet, sweetie. We aren't sure if they're trustworthy."

Jazz was also frowning. "So that's why you asked me about emotional problems. You made it look like you were struggling with depression or something. I was worried!"

Jack, however, didn't try hide his enthusiasm and pride for his son at all. He grinned and leaned forward. "How many people are..."

"About 700 poeple subscribed," Danny said back, just as excitedly.

"Actually," Jazz stretched the word as she glanced at the number. "It's one thousand twenty three."

Danny gasped. "One thousand twenty three, Dad."

"I'm so proud of you, son."

Maddie frowned at her husband. "Don't encourage it, Jack. This is dangerous business. Danny, go to school or you'll be late. Jazz, finish your food."

Danny skipped to the door, quickly followed by his dad. Jack stopped him by the door and whispered. "Keep me updated."

"I will," Danny whispered back as if they were sharing some secret spy information.

Then he ran out the door and towards school.

I know, I know. I'm pretty late. But it's a big chapter.

I was taking a vacation from writing after finishing Phantom trip. And during my vacation, I had a lot of free time so I started writing obviously.

I strengthed the plot and had more ideas and used my insomnia wisely and long story short I have a new ship now and have made a book about it.

So if u want to check it out it's called ectostars (let's see if u can figure out what ship it is before you check it out) and I will drag y'all down with me on this ship.
