Chapter Two
The killer headache that Teddy Lupin had when his parents cracked open the door to his room was more punishment than 100 lectures from his mom or dad, even from his godfather. When his mother called out the question of how he was feeling, Teddy just groaned. Tonks sent him a wink, shutting the door behind her and pulling a laughing Remus out of the room. Teddy was glad to be left alone in the blissful silence to gather his thoughts.
His blood rushed in his ears when his mind wandered to the previous night's events. Teddy's breath caught when he remembered the words that he had uttered to Charlotte. He had told her that she was beautiful. Well, Teddy mused, she was. Oh, her smile drove him crazy.
Snapping his attention back to the present, Teddy pushed himself up onto his hands as he watched his hair in the mirror across from his bed turn from a hot pink to a vibrant, turquoise blue as his emotions calmed down. He pulled a knitted red sweater emblazoned with a bright yellow T over his head, sighing. Teddy had to get up and face the music that was a result of last night. Teddy swang his feet out of bed, pressing them firmly into the wooden floor of his bedroom. He padded quietly out of the room, creeping down the stairs.
"Hey, 'Boy In Love'?" His mother called out, an impish grin present on her face. "How are you feeling?"
"Like I was run over by a hippogriff." Teddy collapsed into a chair opposite of Tonks and buried his face in his hands. Remus had disappeared to take a shower, the pipes rattling overhead.
"That's generally how you feel when you have too much fire whiskey, I should know." Tonks winked at her son, her smirk growing on her face.
Teddy sat back in his chair. His face was in a mask of disbelief. "You Mom? I thought you were a good..." Teddy spluttered. He had had some image in his mind that his mother had been well behaved. All the professors at Hogwarts loved her.
"Oh, my young son! I loved my fire whiskey when I was in my seventh year. I still do love fire whiskey." Tonks grinned, her hair a bright purple.
Remus appeared, his hair slightly damp from his shower. "Are you corrupting Teddy with your love for fire whiskey?" He questioned his wife as he moved to stand behind her chair. He wrapped his arms around her, smiling down at Tonks.
"No!" Tonks winked at Teddy. "I'm telling him that he shouldn't drink, which he shouldn't," Tonks sent a serious look at Teddy before smiling up at Remus. "But that he isn't alone in his teenage shenanigans, because when I was his age, I did the same thing."
Remus chuckled. "I remember. You were quite something when I met you. You still are."
Teddy watched his mother get out of her chair to embrace his father. They were so in love, even after so many years. They had been through so much together, and it had made them stronger. Teddy knew that his father was a werewolf, and he didn't care. When he was eight, young Teddy had asked why Daddy didn't feel well every month. Instead of lying to him, his parents had told him the truth. And Teddy was glad. He would rather know the truth than be lied to. Switching his attention back to his parents, Teddy sighed. This was the kind of relationship that he wanted. To be so in love that you didn't care about the other things.
"MOM!" Teddy exclaimed, laughing. "I didn't need to see that." His parents had been exchanging a kiss at the exact moment that Teddy had looked up. Tonks and Remus looked away from each other and joined in with Teddy's laughter. The family laughed together, giggling and snorting and chuckling until there was a knock on the window by a snowy white owl. A letter was clutched firmly in its claws.
"Oh, Teddy!" His mother broke away from the clump of her family to open the window. "It's your Hogwarts letter!" The owl flew in through the window, dropping the letter on the table before going to sit beside the family owl.
Teddy opened the letter, and let out a gasp when a badge fell out onto the table. He slowly picked up the badge and flipped it over. The badge dropped to the table once more as Teddy stared at it.
"Teddy? What is it?" Tonks walked over to her son, peering over his shoulder at the badge. "REMUS! Remus, come look at this! He's Head Boy!"
Remus ran across the small room to the table to embrace his son and his wife. "Teddy! Congratulations! Now, I wonder who the Head Girl is?"
Almost immediately, Teddy's cell phone began ringing from where it was plugged in and charging in his bedroom. "I'm gonna go see who that is," Teddy said while pointing towards the ceiling. The stairs creaked as he ran up them, hoping that the person on the phone was Charlotte. He wanted to share the good news with her. Teddy picked up the phone, grinning when he saw that the caller was indeed Charlotte. He accepted the call, wincing slightly when Charlotte started talking because of the volume of her voice.
"TEDDY!" Charlotte shouted, breathless from excitement. "My Hogwarts letter came!"
"I know Lotte! Mine came too!" Teddy told her, his volume slightly lower than her's was. His wide grin matched Charlotte's.
"Guess what?" Charlotte grinned mischievously, her eyes glinting in the light streaming in from her bedroom windows.
"What?" Teddy asked. He wondered if Charlotte remembered what she had told him last night. She had said that she might like him. That could have just been her being drunk. Teddy sighed inwardly.
"I'm Head Girl!" Charlotte shouted excitedly, twirling around her bedroom.
"I'm Head Boy!" Teddy shouted back, causing Charlotte to freeze in the middle of her room.
"You are? That's great Teddy!"
"I know! Now we get to do rounds together!" Teddy was inwardly freaking out. This was going to be an awkward year. He was in love with Charlotte, but she didn't know that. She was going to drive him crazy.
"When are you going shopping for your school supplies? We should meet up then!" Charlotte asked Teddy. Her grin was still present on her face.
"I think that we are going in about a week or two. My parents are meeting up with some of their Order friends. But this year they are letting me go by myself to get my supplies! They are so excited that I'm Head Boy. Lotte, this means I have to behave this year." Teddy groaned. "And I have to be a role model for the first years. Helga knows that James needs one."
Charlotte giggled, the sound of her laugh sending Teddy's heart into overdrive. "You do have to be well-behaved this year Teddy. At least I won't have a problem with it." She giggled again.
Teddy smiled at Charlotte, his heart beating loudly in his ears. "You sure won't. You have always been the better behaved of the two of us. You also didn't grow up under the influence of the Weasley, Potter, and Lupin families. There's so much prankster blood, I just can't help myself." Terry put his head on his hips and posed.
Charlotte rolled her eyes. "You are ridiculous Teddy. If I were with you, I would throw a pillow at you." She said through the screen. "But seriously, I'm so excited for this year! It's our last year at Hogwarts. Can you believe it?"
Teddy shook his head. "First-Year seems like yesterday! I still remember being terrified for the Sorting Ceremony because I was worried that I would be sorted into Slytherin, and this girl came up to me and said 'You know, you don't have to be so worried. Your parents will accept you for who you are.' And that sparked a glorious friendship." And maybe something more, Teddy added in his thoughts.
"I remember that! Eleven year old me loved reading the newspaper, and your mum had been in the Daily Prophet for some auror stuff recently and there was a photo of your family, so I knew who you were. Your hair stood out to me!" Charlotte grinned.
"Now, Teddy, we have to make a game plan. This is the first year a Weasley-Potter child is coming to Hogwarts, and from what you have told me about James, we need to be ready. You know he is going to cause chaos." Charlotte's face became serious but quickly turned into a grin again. She could never seem to frown when she was around Teddy. And he could never seem to frown around her.
"You know, why don't we just wing it?" Teddy asked, making puppy dog eyes at the girl. She could never resist his puppy dog eyes.
"No Teddy! We have to have a plan!" Charlotte said. "Oh, stop giving me those."
"Hold on a minute." Teddy turned away so all Charlotte could see was the back of him. It wasn't a bad view, not that Charlotte was looking. Slowly but surely, Teddy transformed his features into the ones of Professor McGonagall. He turned around slowly, his face straight, and looked Charlotte dead in the eye. "I think that you should wing it."
Charlotte burst out laughing. "Oh. My. God. Teddy." She gasped, struggling to breathe because she was laughing so much.
"Charlotte! We have to leave now!" Charlotte's mother called up to her room.
"Bye Teddy! I'm going to go see my sister. She has a new art piece is some fancy collection. Text me when you are going to Diagon Alley! Bye!" Charlotte ended the call, leaving Teddy alone in his room.
Teddy kept laughing, still transformed into the guise of McGonagall. He laughed for so long that his mother came in to check on him.
"Teddy? You okay?" Tonks called into the room before pushing to door open and catching sight of Teddy. "Holy Helga Teddy!" Tonks joined in on his laughter. "Wait, watch this." Tonks transformed into Neville Longbottom before calling out to her husband. "Hey, Remus? Come up here!" Tonks lifted her finger to her lips.
Remus peeked into the room. "What are you two..." He trailed off as he started laughing. "You two are ridiculous. I love you both." The Lupin family embraced in a group hug.
Teddy Lupin was happy. He had his family, he had Charlotte for the most part, and he was Head Boy. It was their last year of Hogwarts, and Teddy intended to get the most out of it that he could.
