Chapter Six

A first-year was looking at Teddy and Charlotte sheepishly as she picked up the stack of her books that she had dropped. "I'm so sorry!" The girl practically sobbed, tears filling her eyes.

Charlotte moved her face away from Teddy's and walked over to the young girl quickly. "Honey, there's nothing to apologize for. What's your name?" Charlotte knelt beside the girl.

"Polly." Her voice trembled as she answered Charlotte's question. "I'm sorry."

"There is nothing that you have to be sorry for." This time it was Teddy who spoke. He was copying Charlotte's action, kneeling on the other side of Polly.

"What's got you so scared, sweetie?" Charlotte asked Polly softly. The gentle rocking motion of the train moved the trio back and forth.

Polly's bottom lip trembled. "I don't know where to go on the train because I'm the first witch in the family so my parents have no idea about anything related to magic. And then I interrupted your moment. I never do anything right!" Polly started crying, tears streaming down her face as she sniffled.

"Polly, it's okay. We will show you where to go on the train, and we weren't having a moment, so you didn't interrupt anything." Charlotte brought the younger girl into her arms for a hug, rubbing circles on her back. She made a motion with her eyes at Teddy to grab a tissue from her bag, and he instantly understood. They knew each other like the back of their hands, inside and out.

Teddy stood up and went to go rifle through Charlotte's bag. The Bag was famous around Hogwarts for having just what you needed at just the right time. Charlotte had put an Undetectable Extension Charm on the brown bag and stored all sorts of things in it. Muggle first aid supplies, magical supplies, and tissues were a few of the items that were housed in the bag.

Teddy walked back with a disposable tissue and handed it to Charlotte. She gently wiped away Polly's tears, smiling at her. "There's nothing to be afraid of. Teddy here is Head Boy, and I'm Head Girl." Charlotte told Polly.

"Polly, do you want to sit with us for the rest of the train ride? You can stay in here during the Prefect meeting." Teddy offered. He knew that the presence of two people that Polly already knew would help calm the young girl down and make her not as scared.

Polly nodded. She picked up her books from the ground where she had dropped them and sat them in her lap. "Thank you." She whispered, her voice thick from crying.

"Here, come sit over here." Charlotte helped Polly up from the swaying train floor and brushed the dust off the younger girl's Muggle clothing. "After the meeting, I'll take you to change into your robes. How does that sound?"

Polly nodded again. She sunk into the cushion and opened one of her many books, which turned out to be a sketchbook. Polly started to draw, tuning out the outside world.

Charlotte watched Teddy interact with Polly and was melting inside. He asked her all sorts of questions about her art, knowing just the right thing to say. He was always so good with kids. Charlotte watched the pair until Teddy looked up and flashed a smile at her. Color rushed to Charlotte's cheeks, and she looked down at the stack of papers that she was writing on. "Teddy, we should probably start planning the Prefect rotations now."

"Good idea." Teddy stepped away from Polly and sat down next to Charlotte. "From what I've heard from Percy, it seems like the Head Girl and Boy always do their rounds together."

"Rory said the same thing. That's one pair that we've already got sorted out then." Charlotte ducked her head down under her hair to hide her blush from Teddy. Charlotte was berating herself in her head for blushing. She's Teddy's best friend, they've known each other since they were both Polly's age. It doesn't make sense that now feelings were surfacing.

"So, Victoire will go with April, and Shawn will go with Annabel," Teddy said, pointing at the names marked down in Charlotte's handwriting on the parchment.

"That sounds right," Charlotte said. She was glad that her blush had faded quickly and they were able to get work done. The Prefects were going to be coming soon. "And this is only for the first part of the year. After that, we will reevaluate partnerships to figure out what worked and what didn't."

Teddy looked down at his watch and then glanced back at Polly, who was drawing away in her sketchbook. "How's it going, Polly?" He asked.

Polly shook her head as if to clear it and smiled brightly. "I'm doing great! Look, I drew the two of you!" Polly flipped the sketchbook around to reveal the black and white drawing done on the paper. It was gorgeous, a realistic rendering of Charlotte and Teddy. Charlotte was leaning her head on Teddy's shoulder, and Teddy had his arm wrapped around her.

Charlotte gasped. "It's beautiful, Polly!" Charlotte was in awe that someone so young could create something so wonderful.

Teddy knelt beside Polly and whispered in her ear for a few moments. Charlotte watched as Polly, after a few minutes of deliberation, carefully ripped the drawing out of her sketchbook to hand to Teddy, who then tucked it into the pocket of his jeans.

"What was that about?" Charlotte whispered to Teddy when he returned to her side.

"It was nothing, Lotte," Teddy whispered back. "I just wanted the drawing, so Polly gave it to me."

Before Charlotte could respond, a blonde head poked itself through the carriage door. "Is it time for the meeting?" Victoire Weasley asked. "April and I are wondering."

Charlotte and Teddy both smiled warmly at her. "Victoire! It's good to see you!" Charlotte embraced the girl, hugging her tight. "How are you doing?"

"I'm doing well, thank you!" Victoire smiled back before calling to her girlfriend. "April, you can come in too."

April followed Victoire into the compartment, both girls already changed into their robes. "The other Prefects should be coming shortly." She said before blowing a large pink bubble from the gum that she was chewing.

"Thanks, April." Charlotte smiled at the Gryffindor before turning back to Teddy. "Are you ready?"

"Are you?" Teddy said instead of answering. Charlotte watched the glint in his eyes begin to glow as it always did in situations like these. Teddy thrived with people, he charmed them and made them happy. It was one of the things that Charlotte loved most about him.

Before Charlotte could reply, they were once again interrupted. A flow of people began to come through the door. Some were wearing robes, some were wearing Muggle clothing, but they all had one thing in common on their outfits. A Prefect badge was pinned to each and every person's clothing that walked through the entrance.

"We will wait for a few more minutes to make sure that everyone has time to get here, and then we will start!" Charlotte called out over the murmurs and small talk that rose up from the crowd as friends caught up with each other and chattered. "Make yourselves comfortable!"

Charlotte navigated between clumps of people before she arrived at one of the large windows that lined the walls. Looking out, she watched the greenery rush by as the train rushed towards Hogwarts. Charlotte stared out the window, lost in her thoughts until she felt a presence beside her that snapped her out of her mind.

"Can you believe that it's our last year?" Teddy said, his voice just loud enough to be heard over the noise in the compartment. He had followed Charlotte over to the window.

"It is hard to believe." Charlotte agreed, resting her head on Teddy's shoulder. "We should probably start the meeting."

"We should." Teddy did a quick check-in with Polly before turning away from the window and towards the crowd of people. "Hello everyone!"

The noise gradually died down as people shushed their friends and moved their attention to Teddy and Charlotte, the latter beginning to speak. "I hope that you all had a great summer, and are now ready to be responsible! If you are here, then your teachers have judged you ready to have a position of responsibility. We hope that you don't disappoint!"

"My name is Teddy Lupin, and I am your Head Boy. Charlotte Ramsey," Teddy said gesturing to Charlotte. "Is your Head Girl. If you all have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask us!"

Charlotte watched the first time Prefects take in Teddy, with his ripped jeans, a band t-shirt, and shock of turquoise hair. When he wasn't changed into his robes, Teddy looked like he wasn't responsible in the slightest. But Charlotte, their professors, and anyone who had met the boy knew differently. Charlotte stifled a laugh and pulled out the piece of paper that the Prefect pairs were listed on. "Alright, for those of you who are new, we assign you a partner and you will patrol with them for the rest of the year. If you have any problems, please talk to us! I promise that we aren't scary."

"We really aren't!" Teddy turned his hair bright yellow, causing Polly to giggle. The young girl had been watching the meeting with rapt attention. She was fascinated by the way that Teddy and Charlotte interacted with each other.

"The pairs are as follows; Victoire and April, Shawn and Annabel, Lynn and Seth, Desmond and Flora..." Charlotte continued to list off the names until she reached the end of the paper. "That's everyone! Now, if you aren't already changed into your robes, I would recommend doing that. If you are, please patrol along the corridors in your pairs for a few minutes."

"That's it for today," Teddy said. "We will see you all at our next meeting, which we will send out an owl about."

Once the crowd dissipated, Charlotte turned to Polly. Polly was closing up her sketchbook and putting her pencils away, methodically slotting them into their proper places. "Are you ready to go get changed?" Charlotte asked Polly. When Polly nodded and stood up, Charlotte continued. "Alright! Go get your robes and I'll get mine and show you where the bathrooms are! Teddy, we are going to get changed. You should too."

"Okay, Lotte!" Teddy called back. He was talking to Victoire about James. That boy was going to be a handful for Charlotte to handle. Charlotte had heard so many stories from Teddy about James growing up. A smile crept onto her face.

"I have my stuff!" Polly said happily. Her earlier tears showed no signs of coming back as the girl practically bounced down the corridor.

Charlotte gave Polly directions and followed behind the energetic girl. When they reached the bathroom, there was a line that Polly and Charlotte joined.

"How long have you had a crush on Teddy?" Polly asked Charlotte abruptly.

Color rushed to Charlotte's cheeks. "Is it that obvious, Polly?" She had thought that she did a relatively good job of hiding her feelings.

"To me it is, but I don't know how apparent it is to others." Polly shrugged. "I'm really good at reading people. Teddy doesn't know though. I can tell you that."

Charlotte let out the breath she was holding. "That's good."

"He also returns your-" The bathroom door opened and Polly went in to change, cutting off the rest of her sentence.

She left Charlotte wondering what she was going to say, the older girl blushing at the fact that Polly could tell that she had a "crush" on Teddy. The childish term didn't even begin to describe Charlotte's feelings for Teddy. They ran much deeper than that.

A stall opened up and Charlotte went in to change. She shed her Muggle clothes and put on her Hogwarts robes for the last first time, making sure to transfer her Head Girl badge to the new clothing.

This was her last year, and Charlotte was going to make the most of it.
