Chapter Five

"Teddy!" As soon as Charlotte saw Teddy Lupin on Platform 9 3/4, she ran barreling into him with a hug. "I missed you!"

"Lotte, it's literally been a week since I last saw you, and we FaceTimed every day." Teddy smiled down at the girl whose arms he was encased in and wrapped his own arms around the girl. He rested his chin on the top of her head and squeezed her back.

"I know, Teddy." Charlotte sigh mixed with a giggle, creating an odd sound. "Am I not allowed to miss my best friend?"

Teddy's heart gave a sudden beat at the word friend. He wondered if all that he would ever be was the best friend, the one who would watch Charlotte be happy with another man. "You are allowed to be happy to see me."

Aurora gave Charlotte a knowing look from behind Teddy's head, which Charlotte returned with a playful glare.  Aurora gave a small wave to her younger sister before turning and Apparating away with a crack. Charlotte had already said her goodbyes to her parents at the Ramsey house, and her sister had come to see her off.

Similarly, Teddy had already bid his parents a fond farewell before parting ways so he could go find Charlotte. He wasn't going to see them until the Christmas holiday, but Teddy didn't want Remus and Tonks to know who the girl was that he had come home talking about the night of the Weird Sister's concert. Teddy knew that his mother was the type of person to take in glances of longing, pink hair coloring, and blushes of embarrassment. He knew that if she saw the way that he looked at Charlotte, Tonks would immediately know the Charlotte was the mysterious girl who Teddy was in love with. His mother saw everything.

Charlotte fidgeted with her Head Girl badge before looking at Teddy's. She immediately burst out laughing. "Teddy!"

Teddy let go of Charlotte and looked at her with a confused expression on his face. "What is it, Lotte?" He asked curiously.

"Your badge. Look at it." Charlotte said through her laughter. His badge had been spelled by someone to read "Bigheaded Boy".

Teddy looked down at his chest to read his badge and stifled his own laugh. "James!" He shook his head in exasperation.

"What did he do? He couldn't have cast the spell." Charlotte asked Teddy, whose hair was now a vibrant purple color. Charlotte knew that this meant that Teddy was feeling a mixture of amusement and frustration.

"It was Uncle George." Teddy sighed. "I knew that James was up to no good when he asked to see my badge at the annual Weasley dinner that we had yesterday. I should have known better than to trust him." Teddy paused, seeing his godfather and family approach him and Charlotte. "And speak of the devil."

Charlotte smiled at James before silently excusing herself to board the train. "I'll be in the Prefect compartment," she whispered to Teddy before departing. As Charlotte left, the Potter family arrived.

"Teddy!" Lily barreled into Teddy, not unlike Charlotte, wrapping her arms around his waist.   Teddy returned the hug, smiling at Harry and Ginny. "I'm going to miss you!"

"I'll miss you too, Lilybug." Teddy bent down to a crouch until he was eye level with Lily. "But I'll tell you a secret." Teddy leaned over to whisper in her ear. "Don't tell your brothers, but after this year I won't go to Hogwarts anymore. Then I'll be able to visit you whenever you miss me, or whenever I miss you. Which will be all the time!"

Lily giggled. "I can't wait until I get to go to Hogwarts. Do you think that I'll be able to see a fairy?" Lily was obsessed with all things fairylike, Muggle or Magical. She had a pair of fairy wings that Teddy had given her that she almost never took off. She wasn't wearing them today because "I don't want them to be sad if they see Teddy leave!"

Teddy nodded solemnly. "Definitely. I see fairies all the time." He said, still whispering in Lily's ear.

"Yay!" Lily leaned into Teddy to whisper in his ear. "Your friend is pretty like a fairy." As Teddy's hair turned bubblegum pink, Lily skipped off to hug her mother's legs.

Teddy followed after her, glaring playfully at James. "Don't think that I didn't notice what you did to my badge."

James smiled innocently, his messy black hair the spitting image of Harry. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"What did he do?" Ginny asked Teddy, looking suspiciously at her eldest son. Albus was standing near Harry, looking like he wanted to be anywhere but there. Teddy knew that Albus had never liked crowds, so he sent a reassuring smile at the middle Potter child, who smiled back weakly.

"He made my Head Boy badge read 'Bighead Boy'." Teddy watched Ginny and Harry exchange bittersweet smiles after he finished saying the sentence.

"I'm assuming that Uncle George got to you?" Ginny asked her son. That was when Teddy realized that the prank was one that George and Fred had probably played when they were around his age.

James nodded. "He did. How did you know?"

Ginny smoothed down his wild hair and sighed, confirming what Teddy thought. However, she didn't tell James, choosing to say instead, "Mums always know." She noticed Teddy looking at her and smiled at him. Ginny was whip-smart, Teddy reasoned that she knew that he knew how she knew that George had helped James play the prank.

"James, I think that's it time that we go. Look, there's Victoire." Teddy pointed to the blonde girl walking by, who stopped by the Potter-Lupin group. "Hey, Victoire. Do you think that you could show James onto the train? I have to go meet with the prefects. Bigheaded Boy responsibilities and all that.

Victoire cast a questioning glance at him but nodded all the same. "Come on, James. And no before you ask, just because you have your wand and we are on the train, it does not mean that you can pull pranks on me." She pulled him off to the waiting door of the Hogwarts Express, keeping a close eye on the young boy.

"Listen to your cousin, and don't get into a lot of trouble! I don't need a note from McGonagall your first year." Ginny called after son as he departed, shaking her head. "Teddy, are you excited to be Head Boy?"

"I am," Teddy answered Ginny's question. He was anxious to get back to Charlotte. He knew that she didn't like waiting on the train alone. "Bye Ginny, Harry, Albus, Lily, and everyone else that I can't see!" Teddy waved goodbye to his extended family before climbing aboard the train. He checked in with the compartment where James and Victoire were sitting, making sure that his trunk was still secure, before making his way to the Prefect compartment.

"Teddy, you made it!" Charlotte was sitting on a seat in the Prefect compartment with a relieved expression on her face. She hated being on the train by herself like she was before Teddy arrived.

"Yeah," Teddy ran a hand through his shock of blue hair. "Sorry about that. Also, could you spell my badge back? I'll never get any respect if it reads Bigheaded Boy when they all come in here."

Charlotte giggled, the action lighting up her face. "Ted, you're a mess." She pushed herself off of the plush train seat and stepped closer to Teddy. Charlotte watched her hand reach out to fix Teddy's tie, then into the pocket of her robes, which she had changed into while waiting for Teddy, to bring out her wand. She cast a counter-spell, and the badge returned back to normal.

"How'd you know what spell to use?" Teddy pulled the badge up to his eyes to read it before pinning it back to his yellow sweater. He was blushing slightly at how close Charlotte was but had sternly told his hair in his mind not to change colors.

"My sister played this prank on me once when I was younger. Remember that award that I won Third Year?" Teddy nodded and Charlotte continued. "She cast presumably the same spell that James and your Uncle George cast on your badge. But she was nice and showed me the counter-spell." Charlotte smiled fondly at the memory of Aurora. Her sister had been her best friend growing up.

"Of course she did." Teddy joined in on Charlotte's laughter, pulling her down to sit beside him on one of the compartment seats.

"So, Teddy," Charlotte said casually, causing a gentle trickle of something to drip into Teddy's heart. "What did your little cousin, god-cousin, I don't even know, say to you to make your hair turn pink." Charlotte ruffled Teddy's now turquoise hair.

Teddy's cheeks colored and he coughed. "It was nothing."

"Are you sure about that?" Charlotte grinned teasingly and leaned closer to Teddy. Their faces were so close that they could almost kiss each other.

Teddy was about to do it before a crash caused their gazes to whip toward the door.
