It was his first Defense against the Dark Arts class when Sebastian knew this year at Hogwarts was going to be very different.

He hadn't paid much attention to the speech Professor Umbridge gave at the welcoming feast, but he figured it had something to do with control, considering the class he was in right now was anything but freeing.

Sebastian had always hated copying things, assigned reading, and anything involving work, but Professor Umbridge was taking those feelings and increased them by a tenfold.
As a result, the boy decided it was time to make things more interesting.

Noisily dropping his quill, Sebastian raised his hand, letting a smirk wash across his features as the class slowly but surely focused their attention on him.

To her credit, Professor Umbridge dutifully ignored him, her own quill scratching on whatever she was working on, but just as his arm was really starting to ache, she turned to him with a sweet smile on her face.

"Do you have a question concerning my course aims, Mr..."

"Herondale. And well no, but-"

"Then I'm afraid you'll have to wait, Mr. Herondale. This is a time for work, not amusement." She immediately continued working, acting like he wasn't there.

You don't ignore Sebastian Herondale when he wanted to be seen.

"Well, whatever. Can I head to the lavatory?" He crossed his legs, his eyes wide with innocence.

A muffled curse escaped from Padma, and Sebastian felt his smirk widen.

She blinked. "Have you finished copying your course aims, Mr. Herondale?"

Sebastian glanced at the pretty field of flowers he had drawn on his parchment. "Um..Yes. Very pretty."

She raised her eyebrows. "I see. Very well. I would like you to read six pages of your assigned reading before you go, Mr. Herondale. After all, you must not let such primitive urges distract you from work."

The boy's lips twitched. "Er, you really expect me to read that rubbish when I've got to piss?"

He realized that wasn't the most polite way to put it a little too late, and bubbles of laughter could be heard across the classroom. Sebastian felt his face go splotchy, much to his horror.

Professor Umbridge took a step forward, her small mouth pursed.

"I beg your pardon?"

A chance to redeem himself. Well, Sebastian wasn't going to take it, even with his face the color of Ron Weasley's hair.

"I said, do you expect me to read that rubbish when I've got to piss?"

Padma nudged him with her foot, but he ignored her.

"Ten points from Ravenclaw, Mr. Herondale. Talk back to me again I'll be seeing you in detention." After that statement, the class had quieted down, all humor gone from the room.

But Sebastian couldn't help the grin that spread on his face. Detention. He would be the talk of the school if he managed to get detention on the first day of classes. It would be a new Herondale record! The thought made him giddy.

Besides, how bad could detention with the old toad be? She was probably all bark, no bite.

Putting on a more polite expression, Sebastian stood, trying to look innocent.

"Please excuse me, Professor. I'm afraid I can have a lack of filter when I have to..urinate."

Several people snorted at the thought of Sebastian Herondale ever having a filter, but he ignored them. Professor Umbridge looked unimpressed.

"Er, anyway. Here, let me show you my delightful course aims! I'm sure you'll let me head off, once you see my beautiful work." He almost winked, but Professor Umbridge's face made him far too uncomfortable.

Squaring his shoulders, the Ravenclaw swaggered over to the desk, displaying his crudely sketched field of flowers in all their glory.

"Lovely, aren't they? I was thinking they would be periwinkles. If only I had some blue ink, now that would be stunning..." He trailed off as her face went purple, which unfortunately matched her as well as pink did. Meaning it looked horrid.

"Detention tonight, Mr. Herondale. I'm afraid we have a lot of work to do."

"Class dismissed."

Sebastian received several claps on the back as he left, along with several smiles and even a Hufflepuff telling him how she wished she were as bold as he was.

Of course, Padma had none of it.

"What the hell is wrong with you?! Detention on the first day?" Her eyes were sharp, and Sebastian had to jog to keep up with her.

Out of breath, the boy only shrugged. "New record for me. Far too tempting. And did you see how easily she was bothered? It was glorious." He let out a laugh, laughing even louder when she flipped him off.

"Oh Padma. This year is going to be so fun."
