"So how's your boyfriend?" I asked Ashley.

"We... umm.. We broke up." Ashley answered.

"Oh," 

"So..."  "When is Jordan moving?" Ashley asked, changing the subject.

"I don't know." I replied, licking my ice cream.

A phone rang.

"Sorry," Ashley said, standing up and walking to a corner.

I could hear someone was talking to her. It was a man's voice. Who could it be?

My phone notified me that I had a text from someone. Is it from Jordan? It was from Miranda.

Miranda: When can I meet your boyfriend?

Vanessa: You can't.

Miranda: Why?

Vanessa: Jordan is moving. I don't know why.

Miranda: Okay... So what's are you doing now?

Vanessa: I'm eating ice cream with my sister at Dairy Queen.

Miranda: Lucky!

Vanessa: Yep. Oh, sorry. I gtg. Bye!

Miranda: Bye!

I turned off my phone right when Dad came into the store. What is he doing here? Does he know I'm here?

Dad turned and walked towards me. 

"What are you doing here at Dairy Queen?" Dad asked in a hushed whisper.

"I'm eating ice cream with my sister." I answered.

"You have to be cleaning the car !" Dad said, raising his tone.

"I'm sorry Dad, I forgot." I exclaimed meekly.

"Then go! And tell your sister to go home! She has things to do too!" Dad yelled.

People turned to look. Why is Dad acting like this? I ran towards Ashley and tugged on her sleeve.

"Not now," Ashley mumbled.

I pointed to Dad. "Yes now. Dad wants both of us to go home because he said you need to do something and I have to wash the car." 

Ashley clicked the phone off and walked towards Dad.

"Dad, I can take care of myself and my sister. Don't worry." Ashley explained.

Dad was fuming. "I don't care! Go home right now!" 

Ashley grabbed my hand and brushed past Dad. We ran to her car and quickly got in.

"Where are we going?" I asked.

"Home," Ashley replied stiffly.
