I'm probably going to make a lot of people mad but that's fine.

I don't like cannon character siblings.

They usually are super cringey and not at all original.

Don't get me wrong, there have been some good ones. But still I don't really like it.

Most of the time they don't make sense.

Why do the Weasley twins need a triplet? Threes a crowd. Not only that's but why does it always have to be a girl? Seriously. People don't understand that if there was a girl, Ron and Ginny wouldn't have existed. Yes, that's right. Molly and Arthur wanted a girl. That's why the stopped after Ginny. Also, poor Ron. He deserves better.

Harry Potter twin, (usually a girl named Scarlet or Lily) really doesn't make sense. First of all, why doesn't she live with Harry? I honestly don't think Dumbledore would split them up. Also, why does she always get abused? Like physically? Yes, Harry was abused verbally and being locked in his cupboard. But he was never hit, (except for Dudley, who failed most of the time anyway.) Don't forget she always dates draco or ron.

Hermione/Draco/Ron/Luna's twin/sibling
They basically take up their siblings space in the story and now Hermione is just there cause Emma Lily Anne Malloy Granger is helping Harry and Ron. Oh, don't forget about Harry's girlfriend Aqua Sparkles Snake Marie Malfoy and her bestie Sunshine Candy Nargles Lovegood. Like please, stop. If you are going to do this, give them their own life! Their own story line that doesn't involve their siblings. Have Harry's sister get petrified in their second year with Hermione! Have Luna's sister be popular! Have Draco's sister hate Harry as well! Give them something unique!

But don't take anything from their siblings/ cousins away!

If you are going to have siblings, please don't overshadow the main characters. You can't make them all powerful so that they defeat Voldemort with the snap of their fingers. (Thanos, where you at 👀)

Make ocs for your characters to be friends with if you have too! Ginny and Ron are siblings but they don't share all the same friends!!

Don't make your character hate their sibling unless there is a reason. Just saying "I hate my sibling!1!1!1! They're soooooo annoying!!!!1!" Isn't a good one.

Sure, sometimes I hate my brother, but I'll always have his back when he needs it. That's what being a sibling is all about. You have each other's backs no matter what. And yeah, he's definitely annoying sometimes, but that's just how siblings work.

All that saying though, making your own character & their family is actually easier personally. Since YOU get to decide how they act and their money/ blood status. It also draws readers in more, they want to know more about the family!

Canon characters often don't work, because they all fall into a line of a cliche and most if the time, are just like... really annoying??
