Candidate

Today was the day a princess was to be elected. The royal family had been wiped out in a tragic fire. As a duchess, I was an eligible candidate. Around me were the others, ladies, Other duchess', baronesses and others with fancy titles.

The kingdom was in dismay, if I could be of any help, I would gladly take the throne, even knowing I would have to chose a prince. Who knows, maybe one will catch my eye? Each suitor was of noble birth and would be there to help the chosen Princess with her studies. Even if a suitor is not chosen, he is sworn to aid the royal family, and shall remain a tutor.

(I don't remember all the names and titles, so I will use my own so I don't spoil the game for anyone who wants to play it. Again, it is called 'Midnight Cinderella.')

To my understanding, Lord Giles was to be the dance tutor, he would also be teaching formalities, like how to sit and speak, Baron Edward who would teach the basic subjects like history and literature, Marquee Leo was to teach business, crucial for alliance negotiations and annual festivals, which he would help plan. Sir Alyn was the captain of the guard, also a suitor because of his knighthood and the fact he was captain, who would teach horse riding and how to care for the horses, should a princess become lost for any reason.

The princess would also have a personal butler, Nico Meier. It was forbidden for a princess to fall for her butler, even if Nico had received a knighthood himself, he was not a guard due to injury during the war, which had healed now, but decided to remain a butler and support the new princess in any way he could. Even if he was a guard, he wasn't the captain.

Giles was to be the one to chose. He did have the best judge of character after all. He observed the girls, getting a feel of their behaviour. Some gossiped too much, some were getting impatient and rude, others were stuffing their faces with food. 'How unladylike.' He though. Then his eyes fell on me. I was sat gracefully in a chair, my nose in a book. 'Graceful posture, loves to read, not a crumb of food on her, sweet smile.'

I was the only one who hadn't noticed him staring at me. Everyone was staring holes in my head with envy. One girl knocked the book out of my hands. "Oops." She said with a giggle. Paying no mind to her, I picked up my book. "No harm done. Don't worry my dear." I said trying to be nice. That's when I noticed all eyes were on me. 'Polite too, she might not even need lessons.' Smirking, Giles walked up to me. "Lets take a stroll my dear." Taking his extended hand in my own, he led me to the garden, paying close attention to the way I held myself. 'Excellent posture and graceful walking stance, she'll do nicely.'

"My lord, where are we going?" I asked, trying not to sound nervous. He just smirked and beckoned a guard to him. "Yes, my lord?" The guard asked. Giles gave me one final look as I anticipated his next move. "Tell the other ladies they are dismissed, we have our princess."

WAIT WHAT!?
