Chapter 9- Bloody Weather

I stood there frozen with my hand on my cheek. He had never touched me in eleven years and he just bloody slapped me, hard. He has never even hugged me. My cheek was burning hot and it was also, probably, very red. That was one of the things I feared the most, betrayal, because that's not the uncle Dan I knew. He just wasn't.

I pushed him out of my room and locked the door.

Matt came and hugged me.

"I'm sorry, this is all my fault." He kept saying.

"No, it's bloody not. It's his fault. Is it too late for me to move in next door?" I ask.

"I told you, you can move in whenever you want."

"Can I move in now ?" I ask again.

"Uh, yeah. Just pack, I will get the twins to help carry your stuff."

"No, don't wake them. I will carry my stuff myself. You go to sleep."

"Yeah, that's not gonna happen. I'll help."

"No, you will go to sleep."

"I am not letting you carry all your stuff on your own, forget it." He says.

"Fine. Now shut up and let me pack." I reply.

I took out the carpet bag I had taken with me at camping and put as much clothes as it can fit in it. Then I take out a big suitcase, which I have no idea why I own it, and put the rest of my clothes in there.

There was still space in the suitcase, so I put all my books and school stuff in there too, along with my three favourite bed-sheets.

"Okay, that's it. I will come for the rest tomorrow." I tell Matt. "You take the suitcase, I'll take the carpetbag and the schoolbag." He nods and does as I say.

Matt goes out from the window and I give him the suitcase, then get out too with the carpetbag over my shoulder, and my empty school backpack in my hand.

He opens the door and we go upstairs to the room I had slept in, around a week ago. We put my stuff on the bed and I started unpacking. I couldn't sleep, I was mad at my uncle.

By the time I was finished, the room looked a bit more like me. I had made my bed, I had put my stuff in the wardrobe and the drawers and my books were on the study.

It was 5:00 am when I went to bed and fell asleep, only to wake up an hour later for school.

Lucky me...

Do you remember these prank-wars, because I didn't. Apparently, they are still on, because as I opened the door to get out of my room, a bucket full of water fell on my head and Matt nearly fell off the stairs laughing.

"I'm going to get you when you least expect it, Dollace, just you wait and see." I yell at him.

The others were kind of surprised to see me get out of the empty room at the end of the corridor, but after we explained they shrugged it off.

"Matt, is that spare toothbrush you gave me last week still spare?" I ask checking the cupboards at the bathroom.

"It must be in the left cupboard at the lowest shelf." He shouts from the corridor. "Now hurry up!"

I found the toothbrush and got ready quickly. We would get something to eat on the way to school, so we didn't have breakfast. We did plan on going for pizza after school, though.

We were in a rush, so we hadn't checked the weather, and that was a huge mistake.

We opened the door to see it was raining cats and dogs.

"Dammit!" Sylvia said and they all ran upstairs to get umbrellas.

"I'm going to get mine from next door, don't you dare leave without me!" I tell them and run in the rain to my house. I get in from my window and scan my drawers for my umbrella.

"Gotcha!" I whisper and go back to the window and return to the Party House. The others were waiting downstairs, so we all started running because we were going to be late.

We arrived at the school twenty minutes late and soaked to the bone.

"Not one, but six students late! Detention, all of you." Our math professor said and we looked at him shocked.

"We nearly got hit by a bus to get here on time, and we are getting detention?!" Eliza says aggressively.

"And not to mention that two of us are already sick and we just ran in the rain to come here!" Matt adds.

"Don't forget the fact that we didn't even eat before coming here!" Chase joins in complaining.

"Why did we even come here in the first place, anyway?" Jace speaks the words of wisdom.

"Exactly! Not only did we cone, but we get detention too? We could have stayed at home!" I add.

"We are only staying because we can't take another day off because of sickness." Sylvia says. "Right?" She asks.

"Right!" We all say in unison and sit down at our seats, the professor looking at us wide-eyed.

Great, detention and rain at the same day. And we wanted pizza. The universe hates us.

Class was boring. We only had Math and History today and we were going out later, but Mr Math Professor (whose name I can't remember) had to give us detention.

Damn you Mr Math Professor whose name I can't remember.

And damn you weather.

After detention we went at the pizza place, anyway. It was still raining and we had no idea how we would get home without the rest of us catching a cold, but whatever. We are eating pizza, and when you are eating pizza you can only be happy. Unless someone shoots you, but that's irrelevant.

"Parker, don't eat too much again." Matt says.

"Dummy, you'd better stop calling me by my last name or I will be very mad at you. Also, I am not eating too much, it was only one time and it was the first time I had pizza." I reply.

"I will stop calling you by your last name when you stop calling me 'dummy'."

"That's not going to happen, so it is a sacrifice I am willing to make, dummy.

"Whatever, Parker."

"Oh, shut up and eat. Both of you." Eliza says.

"I feel like we are babysitting." Sylvia adds and they all nod (with the exception of Jace who doesn't give a damn about what's going on and is eating like a good boy).

"Shut up." I say. I know, I should have said something smarter, but I am eating. Shush!

After we ate we opened our umbrellas and went back home, soaked in water.

Now let me tell you a couple things about the Party House. There are three toilets, one for girls, one for boys and one for guests. From these three, only the two first have showers, so we had to take turns showering. What? We couldn't leave the rain water on us, that would be a little weird. After that we all changed into our party clothes.

"Uh, I need to go get the rest of my stuff from next door." I tell Matt a while later.

"Okay, do you want any help?"

"Nah, I can handle it." I laugh.

I sneaked in from the window and put my the rest of my things in a duffel-bag. Just as I was about to leave again, I heard someone behind me.

"You packed and sneaked out in the middle of the night and thought I wouldn't notice? And of course you are back for the things that got left behind." my uncle tells me.

"This is your fault. If you hadn't slapped me this wouldn't have happened."

"I slapped you because you are getting out of hand, and if you expect me to apologize you are wrong."

"No, you are getting out of hand. Why do you think we have been arguing? I am not a little kid anymore and you are most definitely not my father. My dad is dead."

"And why do you think we started arguing? All this started en you started hanging out with those outlaws!"

"Whoa! Hold your horses! Outlaws ?! They are just trying to find out what is wrong with the cliffs, we are trying to find out what is wrong with the cliffs."

"Maybe the Mayor has a reason."

"Then he should go ahead and tell us, because we are not buying it."

"I didn't raise you to talk to me like that."

"And you had never slapped me, but things changed now, didn't they? Bye." I say and leave from the window.

I don't intend going back there any time soon.

I returned to the House, my blood boiling. I tried to keep a straight face so that the others wouldn't understand I was mad, but Eliza caught me.

"Leens? What's wrong?" She asked.

"What? Me? Wait... Why did you call me 'Leens'?" I asked her. That caught me off guard.

"Because I can. Now spill, what's wrong?"

"Nothing's wrong, Lizzie."

"Seriously? 'Lizzie'? Is that the best you can do?"

"No, but it annoys you as much as 'Leens' annoys me, Lizzie."

"Please don't call me that!" She says and clutches her ears, shutting her eyes, then looks at me suspiciously. "You changed the subject."

"There wasn't a subject to change. I am absolutely fine."

"And I am a seal." She says.

"Lizzie, stop it." I reply and she glares at me.

"After you explain, Leens."

"Not gonna happen, Lizzie." This went on for a while, until she finally gave up and I gave her a cheeky smile, then ran upstairs.

Running upstairs I nearly bumped into Sylvia who was running downstairs.

"Watch it, Parker!" she told me.

"Sorry!" I said and went to my room. I fell on the bed with my face and stayed there like that until I heard music coming from downstairs, when I went there too.

That was a huge party, maybe one of the biggest. People had missed a lot of parties lately, it was about time they had some fun again.

Chase was keeping watch and Lizzie (sorry, I couldn't help it) had gone to keep him company. I just hope they aren't snogging and miss the cops.

It was fun, until we heard them shout that the evil cops were on their way and we all ran in hiding places. The worst part? Right after they left it started raining and there was a power outage. Bloody great, right?

The lights came back an hour later, and we kept partying or the others kept partying, because I had to keep watch.

Why don't I have a boyfriend to come and sit with me?

It was still raining and the House is at the beach, so imagine the humidity- and the cold. Lucky guys the ones inside.

But guess what else? I was lucky, because the cops came again, so I went inside.

And we hid behind the fridge. Yay me!

After that it was Sylvia's turn and Jace went to hang out with her.

I was a little tired, so I laid my back on a wall and watched the dance floor thinking of the camping.

I have to admit, those were the best days of my life, but now we are back and the last is only memories, both good and bad (goddammit, I will never forget these rocks).

And everything was great now. That was until I saw them.

Oh, right, you weren't there. I am talking about Matt and that girl, Lucy or something.

She had long blonde hair, a lot lighter than mine, and wore more make-up than Lizzie, which means more than a ton.

They weren't doing anything, really. Just dancing and talking, but I suddenly felt a lot of hate towards her and I don't know where that came from.

I realized I was staring, but I couldn't get my glare off of them, and that was my mistake, because just then Lucy grabbed Matt's fave and kissed him.

I didn't run, I just went at my room. I didn't cry, but it hurt a little too much and that only had one explanation. One I didn't like. One I didn't like at all and one that explained lots of other unexplained things.

Am I falling for Matt Dollace?!

What the hell is wrong with me?
