Chapter 2- A Bloody Call

Hanging out at the Party House was not that bad. I have been going there for a couple of weeks now, sneaking out from my window.

Matt and I still haven't talked about the "bad memories I would have" topic, but it wasn't on purpose. I forgot about it and we were constantly busy.

We were regularly climbing up the cliffs trying to find a way to go through the door, I had grown pretty close with everyone, even Sylvia, and my life had, kind of, changed for the better.

That was until the call.

Apparently, the mayor started being annoyed by our climbing up the cliffs when it was forbidden and called at the Party House as we were getting things ready.

Matt picked up, and called us around. He covered the microphone, whatever that thing is called.

"It's the mayor." He mouthed. Okay, if we were anyone else, we would be delighted to have the mayor on the line, but we did some illegal stuff. And the cops were after us. "Yes mister Mayor, I am here." Matt says. "Yes, the others are here too... On speaker?! Okay..." He put us on speaker.

"I hear you kids have been going up the cliffs. Don't you know it is forbidden?" Mayor Phillips says.

"We kind of noticed with the cop--" Jace starts, but Chase elbowed him. Yeah, I started telling them apart. Long story short, Chase is always on the left and Jace is on the right.

"Why is it forbidden?" Eliza asks.

"That is none of your business. If you agree to drop it I will restrain the police from crashing your parties, but if I find out you were up there again you will all be arrested and that's just the beginning. Now, I want your names." He says and we look at each other.

"Why would we give you our names?" I ask.

"So that I know who you are. Besides the house is surrounded, do you really want to go to jail?" He must have made the cops come while we were talking. We look at Matt and he nods.

"Matthew Dollace." He says.

"Eliza Road."

"Jace Dayson."

"Sylvia Sherol."

"Chase Dayson."

"Aileen Parker." I say. Silence.

"Did you say Parker?" He asks.

"Yeah, why?" I ask. Nothing.

"I hope you are good kids and do as I say. Would be a pity losing the House, wouldn't it?" The Mayor says and hangs up.

"What the hell was that?" I ask.

"I don't know, but we need to go up there again." Matt says.

"The cliffs?! Are you mad? The bloody Mayor just called us and told us to stay away!' Sylvia asks.

"Which means there is something big going on up there." He defends.

"What about the House?" Eliza asks.

"He won't have any proof if we don't get caught!"

"He is the Mayor. He doesn't need any proof to get us arrested." I tell him.

"Then we try to not be noticed. We can go during the party, when they won't expect it."

"And it will be dark." I say.

"Then I will go alone." He says. What an idiot.

"It will be easier for them to catch you if you are alone." Jace says.

"Yeah dude, take someone with you. Just not me." Chase adds, muttering the last part.

"Okay then. Parker." He says.

"What?" I ask.

"Are you deaf? You are coming up the cliffs with me tonight." Dammit.

"Yeah, I heard you, I just thought I heard wrong." I say. It would be more appropriate if "thought" was replaced with "hoped", but I wasn't in the mood for arguments.

I pleadingly look at the others, hoping one of them wants to go instead, but they either shrug or look away. Dammit.

"Fine." I say.

"It wasn't a question." He says. How annoying.

"And how do you expect us to climb up there at night? We won't be able to see anything and flashlights will look suspicious." I tell him.

"We'll see." Matt replies and I shake my head in exasperation. "Also, we need to think of a way to go through the fence tonight." He adds.

"What the hell? You have been working on that for months! How can we think of something in less than three hours?" I ask him.

"Just try, okay? All of you." He says.

"I am going out, I will see you tonight." I tell them and leave.

I went back home and turned on the TV.

I sigh. How the hell can that idiot expect me to think of something under this kind of pressure? I try to relax and watch a bit. It is one of those scientific shows, where they do experiments and stuff. And this gave me an idea.

I ran out of the house and went downtown at Mrs Jackie's to buy two pairs of gloves, but rubber ones. Thank goodness she likes experimenting.

I returned to the Party House and barged in.

"I have an idea!" I shout.

"What kind of idea?" Matt asks when he comes at the living room.

"Okay, so I went home and turned on the TV and there was this scientific program and the guys there said that there are some materials that are not affected by electricity and block it. One of them is rubber, so I went to buy rubber gloves." I rush.

"So you're saying..." Matt starts.

"If we wear those and try not to touch the fence with any other way but hands and feet we will be okay." I say and take a deep breath.

"Aileen Parker you are a genius." He says. and hugs me.

"No, these two guys on TV are geniuses." I tell him. "Now I am going to shower and change because we only have one hour left." I take the gloves and go.

"Don't forget to get a backpack!" He shouts as I shut the door.

I go back home to get ready. After showering, I went at my room to dress up.

I ended up wearing a black and gray hoodie, dark blue jeans, black sneakers, a black backpack and my mom's necklace. As you have probably figured out by now, I never take that off. I put the gloves, a flashlight, a rope, a lockpick (which I have no idea how to use but we might need it- at least that's what Matt told me when he gave it to me) and a bottle of water in my backpack.

I got out from the window, after putting my pillows under the blanket and went at the front door of the Party House.

Matt was there with Sylvia, who was probably outside to keep watch. He was also wearing a black hoodie, black jeans, black sneakers and a black backpack.

"Took you long enough." He tells me.

"I am a girl." I reply.

"Ready to go?" He asks and I nod. Who am I kidding? Of course I am not ready.

We were nearly downtown, when we talked again.

"So remember that talk we didn't have at the beach?" He asks.

"Seriously? Is that why you asked me to come with you?"

"I will take that as a 'yes'." He says and I sigh.

"Fine. When I was five my parents died in a car crash in the South Cliffs. It was raining and they got out off course and died. That's why I have been living with my uncle." I tell him. Well, I know I told you everyone knows everything about everyone around here, but my uncle did his best to cover the whole thing up. Everyone knew I was orphaned, but not everyone knew how it happened. "Don't say you're sorry. It has been eleven years, I am over it. Besides, I was only five. I barely remember them." I tell Matt.

"How come nobody knows about it?" He asks.

"My uncle covered it up." I reply. "He is all I have left."

"No he's not. You have us now." he smiles.

We walk in silence after that. It isn't awkward or anything.

We arrived at the cliff's side. I took out my flashlight, turned it on and held it with my mouth. Matt did the same with his, we pulled up our hoods and we started climbing.

After half an hour, we were there. I was getting quicker.

I took out my bottle and drank it, so did Matt with his own. I took the gloves out from my backpack and gave one pair to him. We put them on, but as we were to jump above the fence we froze.

"Well, well... I tell you not to come back and you return a few hours later." We hear Mayor Phillips behind us. "Now, who are you?" He says and two cops take off our hoods. I glare at the mayor. "Names." He demands. We don't say anything. What is it with him and names?

I never really liked this guy and he has been mayor for over twenty years. He is always the only candidate.

"Kids these days have no manners." He mutters. "Weapons." He says and the two policemen behind us take out a gun each. "Now, your names." He says. Matt and I glance at each other.

"Parker."

"Dollace." Matt says and the cops lower their weapons.

"Now, what do we do about these two troublemakers?" the Mayor asks himself. This guy is nuts.

"Let us go. We have a party to attend." Matt says. I mentally facepalmed. How stupid is he?

"The House is being locked down as we speak." Mayor Phillips replies. "Well, I guess I can let you go for now. However, if you are seen up here again you will be arrested. Go." He says and we turn around to leave. We expected him to stop us again, and he did. "Now that I think about it, no. You need to be punished for your disobedience." He says. This guy is a bloody madman.

Before the cops touch us, I turn around and kick one in the stomach, then punch him in the face. He falls down. What? I have a lot of free time and my uncle has been teaching me self-defense.

Matt fist-fights with another one.

"Go, I will take care of these guys! Go get the others!" I tell Matt. He and the rest of the "group" actually live in the Party House. Their real homes are downtown and they have no time to go back and forth twice a day. If Mayor Phillips actually locked down the House, they would have nowhere to stay for the night.

"Are you sure you can make it?" He asks while I knock down a third cop. Two to go.

"Yeah, I am right behind you!" I tell him and he starts climbing down.

I punch the fourth cop in the face, kick the last one in the gut and start climbing down.

It only took us ten minutes to climb down. Mainly because we didn't light our flashlights and at the last two meters I slipped and fell on Matt with my back.

"Sorry..." I say standing up and helping him up too.

"No time for this. We gotta run." He points at the police cars coming down the highway.

So we run all the way to the beach. We nearly got caught.

We both had fake alibis. My uncle thought I was sleeping, so I went in my room, put on my pajamas, messed up my hair and put on my sleepy face to get outside. Matt was being covered up by the rest of the group that said he was with them.

We might have gotten out of being chased down, but the Mayor had us cornered. We couldn't talk, we were supposed to be in completely other places when our little conversation took place.

I persuaded my uncle to let my friends stay at our house for the night. Eliza took the guest room, I took the one couch, Sylvia my room, Matt the other couch and the twins an armchair each. My uncle even gave the boys pajamas, and I gave pajamas to the girls.

It had been a long day, so we all fell asleep immediately.

My uncle didn't wake us, he went to get breakfast for us all and let us be. Suffice to say that we all woke up after noon.

Despite that, we ate breakfast and then they all went at their houses.

However, a couple of hours later the phone at my house rang again and I picked up to hear a sobbing Eliza.

"Hello?" I say.

"Hey, Aileen... It's Eliza. My parents... They won't take me back home..." She sobs.

"Okay, get your stuff and come here. I will fill my uncle in." I tell her.

"But... I just wanted to ask you what to do to change their mind..." She whispers.

"Just come here for a while, I will help out, alright?" I say.

"Thank you..." She sobs again.

"It's nothing. Besides, that's what friends are for."

"Thanks again." She says and hangs up.

An hour later I was helping her with her stuff at the guest room.

"They said that I chose my life when I decided to move in at the Party House. They said I was an embarrassment to the family." She wouldn't stop crying.

"You are not. You have us, okay?" I tell her for the millionth time.

"Thank you so much!" She sobs again.

"I have an idea to make you feel better. Let's go downtown and and get some ice-cream, it's on me."

"No, I can't let you do that! I feel guilty and I can't cope with guilt."

"Well don't. Freshen up a bit and we are leaving, okay?" I ask her and she nods.

We get ready and go downtown.

I don't understand why her parents act like this. They used to go to the Party House when they were young too.

Parents are weird.
