Chapter Thirteen
We need to talk.
The hospital hall was silent, the only noises that echoed through the hallway was the sound of a few nurses heels as they walked to their various destinations. Millicent ran down the hall heading straight to her mother's room. She threw the door opened and her mother laid on the bed with her eyes closed, "Mom! Mom!" She yelled out as she ran to her mother's bed. Shaking her mother vigorously, tears flowed down her face "Mom don't do this!"
"Do what? Millicent what is the problem?" Her mother asked immediately sitting up in bed.
"Mom!" she cried out hugging her mom tight.
"Are you okay?"
"god! I was worried sick, the doctor called me and wouldn't tell me what was wrong and I got so scared that something had happened to you and then when I came in, your eyes were closed and then I thought.... I thought.... "
"Nonsense dear! Nothing will happen to me, I will forever be by your side." Her mother said, hugging her daughter.
"Nothing will happen to you." Millicent repeated with her eyes closed.
"Now why don't you go see doctor Naomi and actually find out why she called you." Her mom said, wiping the tears away from her daughter's eyes.
Millicent nodded positively and kissed her mother on the head before leaving the room. She wiped her tears with the sleeve of her yellow sweat shirt and took several deep breaths before going to the doctors office.
"Doctor Naomi?" She said as she knocked on the door to the doctor's office.
"Oh come in!" Doctor Naomi yelled from inside the office.
She pushed the door open and walked in. "Good morning doctor Naomi."
"Morning Millicent. Please, have a seat." Doctor Naomi said with a broad smile on her face as she gestured towards the chair opposite her for Millicent to sit. "Thank you for coming."
"Of course. I hope all is well?" Millicent asked as she pulled the chair backwards to sit.
"It's beyond well Miss Owen." Doctor Naomi replied, smiling from ear to ear.
"Do tell the good news doctor."
"Of course. Spare me a moment."
"Sure."
Doctor Naomi opened her drawer in search of something and then scattered through her table as well. "You know what, I'll search for it later. I am happy to tell you that your mom's health is getting better."
"Really?"
"Yes Miss Owen, it's like a miracle really. The antibiotics are working wonders and the therapy is really helping too. The tumor has reduced and is becoming less life risking."
"Is that even possible?" Millicent asked looking bewildered.
"I don't understand really, it's really a big miracle for a tumor of two years to reduce that much. The heavens really are on your side Miss Owen."
"That's wonderful news. Oh my god!"
Millicent was as happy as a lark, she rushed back into her mother's room and hugged her tight. She shared the news with her mother and they celebrated together with Milena who joined them later in the evening with foods and drinks.

Millicent went to work the next day and found a package on her desk with a heart shaped paper with the words "READ ME!" written boldly on them. She opened the box and found the dress and jewelry that Davy had bought for her neatly packaged in it and another small note that read "there's another box under your desk, check it", she checked and found another box and inside it was the shoe he got her as well with another note yet again that read "good shoes take you to good places.... So I heard. Honour me by accepting these things, as you know I'm very terrible at writing to people but I know you don't want to talk to me right now. I'm really sorry milly" She smiled as she read every word of the note, imagining it in his voice.
"What are you so happy about?"
A voice said from behind her bringing her back to reality "Zack!" She yelled out and immediately squeezed the note.
"A love letter? Secret admirer? What's with all these presents?" He questioned, snooping through the boxes and Millicent took them and hid them under her desk.
"Why do you care?"
"Just because. Now let me see." He said, struggling to hijack the paper from her.
"No! Stop it!" She yelled hiding the paper from him.
"Ehem!" Davy cleared his throat loudly calling their attention.
"Mr Kent!" Zack yelled immediately composing himself. "Good morning sir." He bowed slightly.
"Good morning Mr Kent." Millicent greeted, bowing her head.
"Morning Millicent, did you sleep well?"
"I did, thank you sir."
"Good." Sharing one last glance at Zack, Davy walked straight into his office and Zack followed like a loyal pet.
"This is not over." Zack whispered to Millicent before entering Davy's office.

The afternoon sun set in and it was time for lunch, Millicent had already had plans to eat with Kiara and use the opportunity to talk about her health. Almost at the elevator door, a voice called out to her. "Millicent!"
"Mr Kent-" she said as she turned back, "-do you need me?"
"Are you going to have lunch?"
"Yes sir."
"So am I." He smiled awkwardly.
"Okay sir."
She turned to enter the elevator as the door opened but he called her again. "Millicent!"
"Yes sir?"
"Would you like to have lunch with me?"
"I'm sorry sir but I have to decline. Enjoy your lunch sir." She replied with a stern expression and walked in to the elevator. He nodded and waved at her until the elevator doors closed and she was out of sight.
She thought to herself "What in the universe is going on?! Why is he being so nice to me? This is really unusual for someone who was so ruthless with his words the other day, did he hit his head? Is he thinking I'm Tara? Oh my god"
Millicent joined Kiara at the table where she was seated. "Hey there cutie face." Kiara said, smiling.
"Hey, what's up?"
"I'm okay. I ordered for you." Kiara said as she pointed at the giant bowl of mashed potato that sat opposite her.
"Thank you." Millicent replied, smiling as she sat down.
"So how are you feeling?"
Kiara and Millicent had a nice time together, they talked about Millicent's health and how she was recovering and they both enjoyed their meal.

After a stressful day at work, it was finally closing hour and Millicent couldn't be happier. As she packed her things about to leave, Zack approached her with a small box in his hand. "Hey there beautiful." He said, smiling broadly.
She turned left and right trying to see if there was somebody else around.
"I'm talking to you miscreant."
"Me?" She asked, pointing at herself.
He walked up to her desk and slipped the small box on it. "For me?" She asked with a finger at the box.
"Yes, open it."
She picked up the box and opened it, inside it sat a thin silver necklace with a heart shaped pendent. "Why?" She asked, her gaze focused on the necklace.
"Why what?"
"Why did you buy me this?" She asked as she shifted her gaze to him.
"Just because."
"I'm serious Zack."
"Fine fine. I saw the necklace online and it was very affordable, I thought it would look beautiful on you."
"This is a joke right? You want to give it to a girl you like and you're using me as your guinea pig."
"Wait what? How?" He asked with an arched brow.
"You're trying to see my reaction to know if she'll like it. It's pretty, she'll love it." She placed the necklace back in the box and closed it. "Here."
"What are you doing? This is yours really."
"Seriously?!"
"Yes, seriously." He answered rolling his eyes.
"Wow! This is wow! Thank you." She exclaimed, her tone portraying disbelief and amusement.
"You're welcome. Would you like me to put it on you?"
"Uhm sure. Thanks."
She stepped away from her desk and moved closer to him with only a few distance between them, she turned around and he placed the necklace around her neck. She moved her hair to one side so he could put it on properly.
"What is the meaning of this!"
A masculine voice yelled out in an angry tone and they both turned to look at him.
"Mr Kent!" Zack yelled out immediately stepping away from Millicent. "I was—"
"You were what!" Davy yelled out. He moved towards them and pulled Millicent closer to him and away from Zack.
"He was—"
"He was what?!" Davy interrupted Millicent. "Why was he touching you?" He fumed.
"He got me a present and he was putting it on me."
"He did what?" He squinted a little.
"Mr Kent, uhm as you know she was hospitalized for a few days so I decided to give her a welcome back present."
"Why? Are you dating?"
"What?! No! No way!" Millicent yelled out. "What are you saying Davy?"
"Davy?" Zack asked arching a questioning brow.
"Uh I mean, I meant Mr Kent...sir." She stammered.
"You have a lot to learn Miss Owen! Calling your boss by his name is very very wrong and unacceptable!" He scolded her.
"I'm sorry sir." She sharply replied, bowing her head.
"Go home Zack." Davy said.
"Sir? I should—"
"Go home! What are you waiting for!" Davy chimed in.
"Yes sir."
"I'll take my leave too. Goodnight sir." She jacked free from Davy's hold and immediately ran down the stairs.
"Wait Milly!" Davy said, trying to stop her but she didn't turn back. She kept running down the stairs until he was no longer in sight. She stopped to catch her breath for a quick moment before continuing down the stairs.

The atmosphere was very cold that night, revealing autumn would soon be over and winter was very near. "Wow, it's Jack Frost out here." She said as she cuddled herself trying to keep warm. Her phone buzzed and she took it out of her jacket pocket and it was a message from mine and it read "Hey Milly, I'm really sorry for yelling at you tonight, I just didn't want Zack to catch on to us, text me when you get home"
"Hmm, I really need to change this to Mr Kent and not mine anymore." She said to herself. She tucked her phone back in her pocket.
On getting home, Millicent tried to open the door and it was locked, she pushed on the doorbell and banged at the door at the same time. "You're not the only one living in this house anymore! Stop locking the damn door!" She yelled out.
The door pushed open and a muscular man stood half naked in front of her. "Hey there." He said in a seductive tone.
"Uh hi who are you?" She asked, staring at his erection through his tiny boxer.
"I'm everyone's sweetheart, you?"
"Everyone's sweetheart, I'm a co-tenant of this residence."
"Baby it's fine, let her in!" Milena yelled out from inside.
He moved aside and she squeezed past him. "Not even gonna ask." She said as she walked past Milena and went straight to the bedroom.
Millicent turned and tossed on the bed, unable to sleep due to the loud moaning of Milena and her partner from the living room. Her phone buzzed it was a text from mine again "Are you home? Are you asleep?" She ignored the texts and covered her ears with a pillow that was next to her forcing herself to sleep.
Morning came and Millicent rushed to work, arriving at work fifteen minutes past eight, she feared the scolding she might get from Davy but to her surprise, he didn't even talk about it. For the rest of the week, Davy was unexpectedly nice to Millicent and it worried her. Unlike before, he called and texted trying to know when she got home after work, weather she had eaten, what she was doing, how she was feeling. Sometimes he'd call her into his office just so he could see her face and to see her smile.
After Friday's work, every staff exited the building heading home and Millicent stood outside the building saying hi and hello to a few staffs but looked around impatiently like she was searching for someone.
"Milli!" Zack called out to her from a distance.
"Hey."
"Why aren't you going home yet?"
"I'm waiting for someone."
"Who?"
"You don't need to know, bye." She replied running off. He wanted to go after her but the face he saw but him stop. A surge of emotion filled him confusing him, he felt angry but sad at the same time.
"Hey Dave." Millicent said holding Davy by the forearm.
"Milli hey!" He replied, smiling broadly.
"We need to talk."
