Chapter Fourteen
The Eatery was crowded by people of all gender, they all chatted and shared laughter. At a corner of the room, a small family celebrated their smallest child's birthday, at another table, a couple argued intensely about a matter known to them only. The place was quite rowdy and rambunctious but Millicent didn't seem bothered by it. She stared intensely at Davy who found it difficult to settle in a place so crowded, everything bothered him, the smell of the food they served, the quite dusty table and the barbaric crowd.
"Why did you ask to meet in a place like this Millicent? I could have easily gotten a reservation at a fine diner even though it might not be the best cause it's already night but the night is still young, it's not too late to leave this place." Davy complained looking irritated.
Millicent stabbed her fork into the plate of spaghetti that looked pale and uncooked. "Well I thought a place like this would be perfect." She replied almost spitting her food at him.
He frowned in disgust. "Why would you think that?"
"Because it's so local and high class people like your staffs can't eat here so you don't have to worry about us being seen together." She said as she took another bite from her food.
"How can you even eat that?" He questioned looking irritated.
"It's nice, don't be so judgmental Mr Kent."
He folded his arms across his chest. "At least try not to talk with your mouth full."
"Yes sir!"
He found it difficult to concentrate, from all the noises that polluted the air to the sight of Millicent stuffing her face with spaghetti, he couldn't even drink the water in front of him, he feared there might be some germs in it judging from the looks of the place.
"What did you want to talk about?"
"Well—"
"Just answer me after you're done chewing please!" He interrupted her sticking his hand at her face and she rolled her eyes.
After chewing for several moments, her mouth was finally empty and drank half of the water in her glass in one gigantic gulp then sighed.
"Are you done savouring the taste of that monstrosity?"
She smiled. "Yes."
"So?"
"So I asked to have a talk with you tonight because I'm confused about something."
"Oh okay, it's fine dear, I knew from the start but you might not understand everything."
"You did?"
"Yeah. It's your first time working as a secretary, I know it might seem tough for you and you'll make a whole lot of mistakes but you're a smart girl, you'll get the hang of it soon." He said with a smile.
Millicent stared at Davy looking confused, after taking a moment to digest his words, she finally yelled out, "What? No! That's not it at all!"
"Oh!"
"Wait then are you trying to say I'm not doing a good job as a secretary?"
"What no! That's not what I'm saying at all!"
"Then what are you saying? What are insinuating?"
"What are you confused about? Honestly I'm not condemning you at all! You're the best!"
Millicent scoffed, "Yeah right." She replied rolling her eyes.
"No I mean it."
"Forget it. The reason I asked to meet you is because of how you've been lately."
"How have I been lately?"
"You've been......nice."
"Is that a bad thing?"
"Oh no, not at all! It's just weird for you to be nice to me."
"Why?"
"I dunno, you really hated me a few days ago and one day you were just like hey Millicent I made you breakfast, eat up!" She said in at attempt to mimic Davy.
"I don't sound like that." He said shaking his head.
"Yes you do!"
"No I don't but that's not the point here. I understand what you mean and it's really a long story to be explaining."
"We've got time, I'm not a little girl anymore, I can sleep outside if I wish."
"Right. Okay so here's the thing. Remember last Saturday when we went to my family's party?"
"Yeah? What happened?"
"I realised so many things that night, drinking helps me relieve stress."
"An old habit you can't get rid off." She rolled her eyes.
"Yeah. I'm really feeling indebted to you Millicent, I owe you a lot."
"Why do you say that?"
He closed his eyes and sighed softly then opened them. "That night, the things I said to you.....I don't — I didn't mean any of those words I said. I really loved you then and I still care about you right now Millicent, I want to ask for your forgiveness milli, I said some ruthless things to you and I have embarrassed you in front of so many people. I have hurt you so so much and I've said so many things that I don't mean to you, I appreciate everything we did together, what we had. I'm sorry."
Millicent was lost amidst his words, she felt dumb of a reply and her jaw dropped in awe.
"Millicent? Are you there?" He said waving at her face.
"Huh yeah hi."
"Uh hi?"
"I'm sorry, where is this coming from?"
"I don't know really. I realised that I don't have to be so rude and aggressive to you, I got a series of scolding from my family that night including Matilda and they made me realise how stupid I've been acting and I don't know, I owe you so much because you're such a supportive secretary and you were such a supportive girlfriend as well and you treasured and trusted me so much "
"It's... true "
"I'm really sorry."
"All is forgiven Dave but I can't do this with you."
"Do what? What do you mean?"
"I can't act like this with you, I don't want to be friends cause I'll always want more Davy."
"Millicent—" he said sitting up right.
"Let the end be end Dave. I'm sorry." she interrupted.
She picked up her purse and coat and immediately exited the building without looking back. He chased after her calling out her name but she disappeared within the crowd making it impossible for him to find her.

Falling into her bed feeling depressed, she wiped off the drop of tear that trailed down her face. "Are you okay girl?" Milena asked settling down beside Millicent.
"I'll be fine."
"I know what you need. Let's spend the whole of tomorrow together doing crazy unbelievable stuffs."
"I'd like that." Millicent replied smiling.
Milena curled up beside Millicent and rested on her chest. "I'm here for you girl."
"Thanks Lena. Now who's everyone's sweetheart?"
Milena chuckled. "He's just a nobody. Where did you get that beautiful necklace?"
"From someone."
"Oh come on, tell me!"
"Alright alright! It's Zack."
Milena immediately sat up. "From who now?"
Millicent sat up as well. "You heard me, he got me a welcome back present." She said smiling as she played with the pendant of the necklace that hung around her turtleneck sweater.
"Wow! Why don't you just date this guy I mean come on!"
"I could never, I don't feel that way at all towards him."
"But he's definitely in love with you. Give him a chance in your life, it's a chance for you to experience love again and then maybe you'd actually forget Dave."
"I don't know and besides he's not asking me out or anything."
"That necklace is a sign of his love for you 2.0, why do think it's heart shaped?" She asked pointing at the necklace.
"Well maybe but still, I won't push myself on anyone."
"Fine fine, it's your Choice."
"Can I sleep in peace now?"
"Yeah sure whatever. Good night love."
"Sweet dreams."
They both crawled under their blanket and within few minutes, Milena was already asleep. Millicent stared up at the ceiling, lost in her thoughts, the sound of her buzzing phone brought her back to the present. She stretched to the small lamp table beside the bed to pick her phone and just as she suspected, it was Davy. "We still need to talk Millicent, this conversation isn't over." For a moment, it came to her to ignore the message but her fingers were one step ahead of her, she raised the phone to her face and replied.
"There's nothing to talk about."
Within few seconds, he replied, "you can't make this decision by yourself milli, we need to conclude our future together"
"What future together? And you made the decision by yourself when you proposed our break up." She hesitated before pressing the send button and she waited for his reply but it never came in and she placed her phone down sighing deeply. About five minutes later, her phone buzzed and she rushed to open the message.
"I know the pain I caused you will forever be imprinted on your heart and I'll forever be sorry for everything but please be considerate enough to accept my apology, I know being around me has surfaced some unwanted emotions for you and you feel you need to distant yourself from me to get rid of it but please I need you by my side always."
"As what?"
"What do you mean?"
"You need me by your side as what? Your secretary, friend or lover?"
"I'm confused Millicent." He wrote with a sad faced emoji.
"Get back to me when you know what you want from me. In the main time I'd appreciate it if you weren't so casual with me, it makes me uncomfortable."
"Millicent can you not be like this to me please!!!"
"Goodnight Mr Kent."
She turned off her phone and shut her eyes tight trying to force herself to sleep.
Morning came and hardly did Millicent get any sleep, Milena on the other hand slept like a newborn.
"Good morning girl, you look terrible." Milena said.
"I know, I didn't get any sleep."
"I knew you'd suffer like this after taking such a drastic decision last night."
"Yeah me too, I expected it. I think I'll just sleep in today."
"What?! No girl, we're supposed to do crazy things remember!"
"I know but work was so stressful all week and I only have the weekend to relax so I think I'd rather be relaxing than doing crazy things right now."
"Ughhhh!!!!"
"Sorry girl, you go crazy with Mai Lee or someone else okay."
"What a turn off, what am I supposed to be doing all day long?" Milena asked frowning.
Millicent shrugged her shoulders and buried herself from head to toe under the duvet. Milena went out leaving Millicent alone in the house and after several glasses of warm milk, she finally fell asleep like a new born on the couch in the living room. Silence engulfed the house totally and Millicent laid on the chair with the comfort of a small blanket to shield her from the cold, a loud ringing and vibration sucked Millicent out of her dream land and she immediately woke up sitting up straight. "Oh fuck what now!" She exclaimed rolling her eyes. She groaned as she stretched for her vibrating phone on the center table close to her. "Seriously? Ugh!" She groaned again at the sight of the number calling, it was non other than Davy Kent saved as mine in her contact list.
"I really need to change this to Mr Kent.... Wait I've said that before." She dropped the phone face flat on the ground and she rolled off the couch landing on the ground as she dozed. She laid on her chest beside the phone as she watched it ring. She told her self she wouldn't answer the call no matter how many times he called but after seven missed calls, she finally gave in.
"Hello."
"hello?" A feminine voice said.
"Yes please who's on the line?"
"You don't know me, my name is Mia, I'm a doctor."
"Doctor? What happened?" She asked as she claimed back on the chair.
"The owner of this phone was involved in a car accident."
"Oh my god!"
