Chapter Eleven

It was a mistake.
Millicent forced a smile on her face pretending to be happy at the sight of his sister. "Hi oh my god."

"Try to stay strong no matter what she says to you, I know you're a stalwart lady." Davy said.

Millicent turned to look at him, she thought to herself, "did he just compliment me?"

"Hello Millicent!" Davy's sister said as she walked up to them.

"Matilda! It's so nice to see you again!" Millicent replied.

"I can't say the same thing about you."

Millicent stared at her in silence still smiling. She scanned Matilda with her eyes "You look gorgeous!"

Matilda wore a mini red dress that exposed her breast, covering just her nipples and it was so short it revealed her bare thighs,  her brown shoulder length hair was let loose and her face was plastered with heavy make up "Thank you." Eyeing Millicent for a moment, "you look, well like you."

"Uh thank you?"

"Where's your finance Dave?" she asked turning to Davy.

"She can't be here right now, she's busy."

"Huh, so your ex is your substitute? Cool."

"She's not my substitute, she's my secretary."

"Ha! So what you guys are like fucking yourselves in the office, that is so not like you little brother." She exclaimed chuckling.

"That's not what we're doing," Millicent explained, "it's impossible for something like that to be happening, I mean he's an engaged man now."

"Save the explanation for yourself Millicent. Tell that to anyone else and see if they'll believe." She shifted her gaze back to Davy, "I always knew your relationship with Tara would never last."

"Matilda —"

"See you inside little brother." She cuts him off pinching his cheek.

She turned and walked away and Millicent gritted her teeth in anger but something calmed her suddenly, Dave placed a hand on her head rubbing it, "good girl, keep up the good work." His hand on her felt like ice water that quenched the flame of anger in her. She turned at him confused and he just smiled at her. "Let's go in." His smile made her feel like a thousand butterfly's fluttered in her stomach. He pulled her by her hand and went inside the castle like building.

Just like Millicent had suspected, the inside was even more colossal and stupendous than the outside. "Wow! It's even more bigger than one would think. It's so magnificent!"

Waiters in black suits strolled across the hall with a tray of champagne or wine in a tray, a symphonious music from an orchestra filled the air and luxurious men and women chatted with one another. Chandeliers hung from the ceiling and the hall was exquisitely decorated.

The sound of harmonious laughter echoed from a corner of the room caught Davy's attention, "Oh there's my Mom and Dad, let's go." He said pulling Millicent's arm.

"Wait!" she halted, "I'm nervous."

"What? Millicent is nervous?"

"Yes she is! And it's normal because she hasn't seen your parents in like three whole years now."

Davy sighed and Millicent continued, "Oh my gosh I'm sweating." she exclaimed fanning herself with her purse.

"Millicent relax, can I be honest with you?"

"Sure."

"My mom —"

"Davy! Millicent!" a womanly voice called out.

"Mom!" Davy said. He turned to Millicent and whispered, "let's talk later."

The woman approached them with a broad smile on her face and a glass of champagne in her hand. "Millicent my dear," she stretched out her hands to hug Millicent and wrapped them around her.

"Mrs Kent!" Millicent replied hugging her back, "It is so nice to see you again!"

"Same here darling." Mrs Kent released her from her hold and placed soft kisses on both of Millicent's cheeks. "You know, for a second I did doubt my son when he said you'd be his plus one but I am glad you came. Thank you for honoring our invite."

"Oh no Mrs Kent, thank you for inviting me." Millicent replied smiling.

"You look marvelous dear. Come let me introduce you to a few of my friends." Mrs Kent said still smiling broadly.

"Ah! Of course!"

Davy took a glass of red wine from a near by waiter and took a long deep breath, "This is gonna be a long night."

They gathered at a table with the rest of Davy's sibling and some servers brought food to their table. They all ate, drank and chatted about each others businesses. Their conversation bored Millicent but she tried her best to answer any questions that involved her. Davy on the other hand who sat next to her focused his attention solely on the food in front of him and ate without saying a word.

Millicent made sure a bright smile never left her face and Davy found it rather disturbing than pleasing. "Why are you smiling so much?" he whispered to her.

"What do you mean?, I'm trying to look friendly and I'm trying to stay in character." She whispered back still smiling.

"You look weird, just look normal. Be you, that's what we need right now." He said before taking a sip from his glass.

"Trust me, I don't know where the real me is right now."

"She's right here, sitting next to me but she's nervous and I don't think she should be. Everyone has already fallen in love with the real you and they'll forever love you."

Her smile disappeared and she turned to look at him, "What do you mean?"

"What are you two whispering to each other?" Mr Kent asked.

Millicent instantly faked another smile, "It's nothing Mr Kent."

"Oh do tell." Matilda asked, "Is it about work?"

"What do you mean work?" Mrs Kent asked.

"Oh, they didn't tell you? Millicent works at OMGTECH now as Davy's secretary."

"Wow! That's —that's wonderful!" Mrs Kent exclaimed, "Millicent dear,"

"Yes Mrs Kent?" Millicent sharply replied.

"I'd like to have a talk with you before you leave okay?"

"Yes ma'am."

"Dear why are you being so formal with us? We're like your family aren't we?" Mr Kent said.

"No we're not and formality is expected from her." Davy instantly said.

"Nonsense! Why would you talk so discourteously to Millicent? I will be honest with you, everyone actually thought you two lovebirds would get married, you were inseparable!"

"That is true, I was really looking forward to having you in our family." Mrs Kent added.

"Well back then, we were only after our selfish interests and pretended to be in love." Davy said still eating.

"What is that supposed to mean?" Millicent asked dropping the fork that was raised to her mouth.

"It's pretty obvious, I was the son of a billionaire and you were the hottest girl in the whole school, I'm pretty sure we were aware of what our intentions were."

"Are you saying I was after your money and you were only after my body?" Millicent yelled out.

"Isn't it obvious?"

Matilda cleared her throat and Mrs Kent shunned her son. "That's enough now Davy!"

"Why are you all acting like what I'm saying is wrong?"

"Dave enough!" Matilda exclaimed.

"Why are you butting in, it's not like you ever liked her."

Millicent slammed her hands on the table as she got up from the chair catching the other guests attention, trying her best to fight off the tears that already built up in her eyes, she spoke in a trembling voice. "Even if Matilda never liked me, I didn't care! You know why? I loved you! I wasn't after your money because when we met, it wasn't written on your forehead that you were the fucking son of a billionaire or an heir to the Kent's cooperation."

"Milli—" Davy's younger brother called out but she ignored him.

Wiping of the streak of tear that rolled down her face, she continued. "I loved you wholeheartedly and never for a second did I regret ever being with you. Fine you spent so much on me and I appreciated it and I gave you my body because I loved you and I trusted you. Now you open your mouth and say this trash about me you bloody bastard!"

Davy dropped his fork and rose from his chair to meet her gaze, "What kind of a woman would remain calm when she sees another woman with her man? What kind of a woman would not challenge her man when he did something wrong? What kind of a woman is always available to the extent that when she was supposed to be on stage receiving her diploma, she was at the lovers corner with him."

"A woman that loves, trusts and believes in her man, a woman that clearly a cold hearted motherfucking bastard like you does not deserve."

Millicent picked her purse to walk away but stopped and turned back, "It was nice seeing you all again." She said with a faint smile on her face and continued towards the door.

"Where do you think you're going Millicent? We had a deal."

"You can go to hell for all I care. And oh I quit!"

"Millicent!"

She raised her middle finger at him without turning back and walked out of the building.

"What is your problem Davy! You'd rather stick to a scarecrow than fix things with an angel! Are you that dumb?!" Mrs Kent exclaimed with her face burning with anger.

"Mom let it be." Davy said returning to his chair.

"Dave has always been an ignorant fellow Mom, I'll go after her and try to calm her down." Davy's younger brother said. He got up and ran after Millicent yelling her name.

Millicent tried to get a taxi but the road was silent, not even a single car was in sight. She started down the road hoping to get a taxi if she moved further but the problem was she was confused, she didn't remember the road they had taken on their way but she kept walking anyway. A familiar voice made her stop and turn back. "Cassey?"

"Millicent!" he said gasping loudly, "Geez you are one heck of a fast lady..... And a beautiful one at that."

Millicent smiled "Are you okay?"

"I am, are you?" he asked holding her hand.

"I'm fine, honestly I'm used to it."

"What do you mean?" he asked with an arched brow.

"He's always like this at work, saying ruthless things to me not caring about how I'd feel. I don't know why I got mad today."

"Maybe because you've been holding it in for too long and you couldn't take it anymore."

"Maybe."

"Let's walk." Cassey said still holding her hand. "Millicent you don't have to endure all this from him you know, if you're hoping he'll change soon then you need to rid yourself of this false hope."

"I know Cassey, It's a long story really. I didn't accept to be his secretary because I wanted him back or wanted anything from him."

"Do share the long story, I'm in no rush to go back to that boring party."

Millicent chuckled. She sighed deeply, "Where to begin?"

Millicent told Cassey about her mother's condition and how much they needed money and Cassey's expression became sober. "I'm really sorry about your mothers condition. Let me fund the surgery."

"No Cassey, I don't want to inconvenient you in any way."

"You're not, I want to help because I care about you."

Millicent smiled and he continued, "I stay close by, you can spend the night with me cause it's getting dark out."

Millicent stared at the evening sky and the dark clouds that took over, "It's fine, I can manage."

"Don't be silly! You'll never find a taxi around here and it looks like its about to rain. That's my house like right over there," he said pointing at a mansion that outshined the other buildings. "I know those heels are killing you."

Millicent chuckled, "Fine let's go."

Casey smiled. A heavy rain suddenly started to pour and they both ran hands in hands to Cassey's apartment.

On getting there, they were quite soaked and Cassey offered his clothes to her to keep her warm.

"Should I help you change? This dress looked like something you squeezed yourself into."

"Well yeah I did, was trying to impress your family."

He moved closer to her and pulled the zipper down slowly, "You don't have to try too much, you already impress me." he said placing a soft kiss on her back.

"Cassey—"

"Don't say anything Milly." He interrupted her wrapping his arms around her waist. He kissed her neck and his hand caressed her body.

"Cassey we shouldn't do this!"

He ignored her. Turning her to face him, he kissed her immediately. His kiss was fierce and hard, his hands travelled across her body. Millicent struggled and escaped from his hold "Millicent I still love you."

"That's nonsense Cassey, get over me already!"

"I can't—i," he began sobbing. He went on his knees and buried his face in his palms. "I'm sorry Millicent, seeing you again brought back my feelings for you."

"It's fine, I know how you feel." she walked to him and raised him to his feet, "Get up. It was a mistake, I know, you'd never hurt me."

"Do you forgive me?"

"I do but I can't stay here tonight."

"I understand."

"I —" her phone rang and she took out of her purse.

"Who's that?" Cassey asked.

"Davy."
