Chapter 19

Peeta's POV:

I walk around the room, doing favors and whatever else either Ted asks me to do. Who would have thought a wedding would be such a hard work for the best man? Specialy when the groom acts like Bridezilla. I bet not even Lizzie is being so full of hormones.

I knock on Ted's bedroom door and Eddie immediatly opens me the door. He's got his eyebrows furrowed in annoyance and he's mouth pressed in a straight line. I guess ted is driving him nuts as well. I enter the room, to see Ted fixing his hair.

"Okay. Everything is fine, the cutlery is really silver." I tell Ted.

"Thanks for checking, Peeta. If the cutlery wasn't of silver, I swear I'd freak. Lizzie's father is a complete ass, and I want the wedding to be perfect so that he likes me." Ted says.

I frown "I don't think how well the wedding goes is what will make him like you." I state. Ted simply shakes his head and starts messing with his tie, an incredibly annoying habbit he acquired just this morning.

"Are you sure the tie matches the suit? Does it look tacky?" Ted asks to no one in particular, probably trying to release his stress. Eddie throws his hands in the air and groans loudly. I simply roll my eyes.

Ted is right, it does look quite tacky what he's wearing, everything about every wedding is kind of tacky and silly. Throwing a huge party where you invite people you don't even know just because they share the same blood with you, while everyone congratulates you for the marriage and pretends to care about you for the day. The whole thing is over the top and annoying, and as a consequence, every single thing present in this ceremony is tacky, even if it isn't. And that includes Ted's suit. Still, I choose not to tell him these words, or else he'd flip like a bridezilla would, so I settle with a 'It looks fine.'

Eddie checks his watch "We should get going." he states.  I nod and Ted inhales nevously, starting to mess with his tie again. Eddie is the first one out the door, obviously excited that the ceremony is going to start and Ted will stop accting like some full of hormones pregnant woman.

Before leaving the room Ted turns towards me "How do I look?" he asks me.

I smirk before answering "I think your fiance will be very upset that you look more beautifull than her."

Ted chuckles, and I smile slightly. He takes another deep breath and walks out if the room, with me following right behind.

The ceremony goes smoothly, with no particularly big problem, beside the dog shit that Ted stepped over just outside the church and the older guy that I believe is from Lizzie's side of the family that trips in the carpet and falls to the ground, causing other people to trip on him and also fall to the ground. Lizzie doesn't go all run away bride and everyone shows up, her father (who really doesn't like Ted- I could see the glares he was sending him) walks her to the altar and some people cry (I didn't, I swear I didn't). So, yes, it went smoothly.

"Can I have that?" Katniss asks, referring the slice of cake I have in my front. Apparently she already ate hers. I look at her questioningly, wondering how could she eat so fast and so much. During the whole dinner, I haven't seen Katniss doing anything besides eating and looking voraciously at the food around her.

"Fine." I grumble, pushing the plate towards her, since I know I wouldn't be able to ignore the puppy eyes she'd give me if I said no. Katniss beams at me and diggs in.

"Thanks, Peetpie." Katniss says cheesily. It's this game we made up when we were both in in this small caffee we went to once, that was flooding with couples. The place itself was pretty cheesy, but the people around us, it was a such high level of cheesiness I could barely take them. There was this particular couple seating in the table next to ours that was impossible not to overhear their coversation. Who calls their boyfriend Huggy Bear?? Katniss and I started mocking them, resulting in this game we created, where we call each other the worst cheesy lovesicj names we can remember. I'm not that good at it, but Katniss is great.

"You're very much welcome KittyKat." I say.

"You're too sweet, PeetaBoo."

"Would you stop that?" Gale asks, seeming extremely annoyed. "I'm steps away from wanting to tear my eyes out and stuff them in my ears so I don't have to listen to you too."

"Oh, don't be so mad, MoonPie." Katniss teases, giving him a smirk.

"Don't call me that! I told you like a thousand times not to call me MoonPie! You don't have that right!" Gale grumbles. I can't undertand if he's really serious or if he's just joking, but still I play along.

"What's the big problem, MoonPie?" I ask him. Gale huffs and crosses his arms in his chest.

"MoonPie is what our grandmother used to call him when we were little. He was Moonpie and I was Catnip." Katnis tells me. She looks down at the now empty plate of cake "Can you go get me some more?" she asks me.

I look at her weirdly and Gale comes up behind me "She's in that weird week after her period." he whispers to me, obviously intending for Katniss to listen.

"That's not even a thing, Gale!" she argues, glaring at him.

"For you it is!" Gale pipes up. Katniss gets that pissed off expression she does always that Gale and her have one fo their stupid fights. I decide to leave while I can.

"I'll go get the cake." I mumble, standing up and leaving them to their ridiculous conversation.

I'm at the dessert table cutting a very big slice of cake for Katniss when someone taps my shoulder.

"Hungry, I see." Says Ted, referring to the huge slice of cake.

"It's for Katniss." I explain, not wanting him to think I'm that greedy for cake. "She's in that weird week after her period." I quote Gale's words, considering that he is kind of right. Katniss does get some weird weeks sometimes.

Ted nods "I see." he says, although from his expression I can understand he had no ides what I'm talking about. Truthfully neither do I.

"So, how is it to finally be married to the love of your life?" I ask him, trying to change the subject from Katniss's menstrual cycle.

Ted shruggs "I feel great, although it's basically the same thing than before. The only difference is that now is official."

"I guess." I mumble.

"Hey, I kinda need your help for something." Ted states. "You see Lizzie's father?" I look behind Ted's shoulder, and spot the older man sitting in a table, with a tetchy expression. I nod. "He totallu hates my guts! Apperently I'm way too smug for his liking, and he's always trying to make me look bad. But he actually likes you, for more incredible it seems!"

"And?" I urge him to keep going because I have no idea where this is going. I barely spoke to the man, onlu when we were taking the wedding pictures. I hihgly doubt he actually likes him, he's probably just trying to get Ted mad.

"I need you to be my wing man." Ted finishes.

I shake my head "That doesn't even make sense! A wing man is to help you pick up chicks, not your father-in-law." I pipe up. Ted doesn't even respond, he simply pulls me with him to the table where Lizzie's father is sat.

After the most boring half an hour of my life, filled with Ted's lame jokes and Lizzie's father's sneaky remarks and questions I finally excuse myself and go back to Katniss, who is still arguing with Gale. When I take the seat next to hers, she turns towards me.

"what took you so long? And where's the cake?" she asks me.

"Sorry, I had to go play matchmaker with Ted and his father-in-law." I tell her. She just chakes her head in disprooval and mutters something about cake.

"Where's Haymitch?" I ask, trying to fill in the silence. Katniss shruggs.

"I have no idea, I think he left, all these people drinking probably didn't make it much better for him." she states.

"God, I wish I could have a drink too." Gale groans beside me.

"I wish you could have a drink too. Drunk Gale totallys slays." Katniss pipes up jokingly. I've seen Gale drunk a considerate amount of time. And let me tell you one thing, even if Drunk Gale slays, Drunk Gale is also very raging. Once he started jumping on a bush and smashing it, because he tripped over it. I actually think he peed on it afterwards, but I was trying not to look at the scene.

Suddenley music starts to play and the people that were till this moment seating in the tables conversing start walking to the niddle of the room to dance. Katniss stands up too, saying how much she wants to dance, but I stand frozen in my spot, listening to the music. It's very familiar, although I can't tell why. I take in the toone, tapping my finger on the table according to the rythm absently.

"Foccus, Peeta. It's easier than it seems." dad encourages me. "I'll help you." he adds.

I sight and rub the tip of my nose with my hand. "But it's hard, daddy. Why can't I play something easier?" I complain.

This is probably the hardest song I ever had to play on the piano. Dad is trying to teach me this tune, he says it's speacial and he really wants me to play it, but I don't know if I can. It's too big to remember everything and the music sounds way to calm. I like the ones that are faster, they make me happier.

"You know it's not so hard. It's mommy's favorite song, don't you think she'd be happier if you play it?" dad tries to convince me.

I look at him "Do you think she'd leave the bedroom if she listened to the song?" I ask curiously. Mommy has been inside her bedroom for so long, and she never lets anyone in. Ted says she's just mad at dad for giving us the last cookies in the jar, instead of selling them in the bakery, and Eddie says she's on vacations. I think she's sad. Maybe we're all right, maybe mommy is mad, tired and sad at the same time. Maybe if I play the song it'll make her stop being mad, tired and sad. "Why doesn't mommy let us in the bedroom?"

Dad sighs and runs his hand through his hair. He looks at me caitiously before shaking his head "She's just resting Peeta." he tells me.

"Resting from what?" I insist. Dad doesn't answer.

"Why do you and mommy yell so much at each other? Doesn't that make you sad?"

"Yes, Peeta, it makes us sad, but sometimes there's no way to controll it. Things are harder than we think, and mommy and daddy made a few mistakes, and there's no way around it." dad tells me.

I shake my head "I don't understand." I pipe up.

"Let's hope you'll never have to. Now, let's try again."

I sigh and start playing the song again from the beginning.

The song I had learned to play in the piano. Why is it playing right now? Is it just a coincidence? Is Ted trying to mess with me? I scan the room, trying to find him. I spot hi in the middle of the dancefloor, dancing with Lizzie. He seems happy, real happy. H ecan't even take his eyes off her.

"Come on, Peeta. I wanna dance with you." Katniss's voice rings out in my ears.

I stop dead in my thoughts and stand up, taking Katniss's hands and letting her guide us to the dance floor. She rests her hands in my shoulder's and I place my hands on her waist. She smiles at me and comes closer to me. "That's better." she states.

"You love dancing with me, don't you?" I tease her. "I'm pretty kick-ass partener."

Katniss chuckles "I guess."

We dance untill what feels like the sunrise, and after we sneak out of the party back to Katniss's hotel room. The night is warm and full of bliss, and smells like summer, although ut's raining like crazzy outside. I immediatly realize that it had just started.
