Chapter Twenty-Three

"Your army must leave this minute. The must leave and never return. I want you to leave as well, with the promise none of your ranks or your people will return, and that includes you. You must agree that you won't bother us again. That you won't send anybody to spy on us. If you comply -- once you have left -- I will let her go. If she or any of you fight back, your daughter will die."

"Leave." The Master looks over his shoulders. Half of the population on the Tower balcony dissolve into mist. I gesture to Ruby with a nod of my head to look over the railing to the silent chaos below. She obeys and then looks back at me, nodding once.

"I want Rhys to come over here." I say. Rhys is allowed to walk over to me, standing by my side. "I want you to leave now. If you refrain from playing your dirty tricks, not only will I be happy, but your daughter will be with you." I state simply to the Master. Giving his daughter one last helpless look, he dissolves into mist.

I push his daughter away from me, "Go. Get out of here. Remember this. If you or any of your father's people return, I will hunt you down and I will give you the most painful death you will ever witness. Understand?"

She nods, tears rolling down her cheeks. Then she is gone as well. Burdened with the guilt of murder and emotional blackmail, I collapse into Rhys' accepting and forgiving arms, surrendering myself to the comforting blackness...

A rich, silky duvet is tucked securely around me and I snuggle into it, cocooned with warmth. A soft finger trails down my cheek and I instinctively turn towards it, cracking open my eyes. Rhys smiles down at me, "I'm so proud of you."

"Why?" I ask, sitting up.

Rhys looks at me blankly, "Donna, you're the reason we won. You were amazing, you -- "

"Wait, wait, wait." I latch onto Rhys' arm, "We won? We won the battle?"

Rhys nods.

"Because of me?" I ask incredulously.

"And why is that so hard to believe?" Rhys raises an eyebrow at me, "I am so proud of you, Donna! You just grabbed His daughter, threatened to kill her, made the deal and then we won. We won! And it was all down to you! I can't tell you how happy everyone else is. We thought we were going to lose, but then you came in and you did your little superhero thing and... I'm just so so so proud of you, Donna."

"I told you not to send me away." I cross my arms huffily.

Rhys grins and cups my face in his hands, "You did and I didn't listen to you. I sent you away despite what you said and that was a mistake. Man, you can handle a sword!"

"I've never touched one before."

Rhys nods, "It's the link to Eliza. She was trained in sword fighting from the age of ten so she was pretty skilled. Seeing you fight like that, it blew me away. Ruby is going to get you ready because we're having a big party here."

"A party?" My eyes light up, "When?"

"In half an hour, Donna. The dress is hanging in the bathroom. I'll send Ruby in." Rhys leans in, brushing my lips against his in a kiss so private and passionate that it sent shivers down my back.

I did it. I helped Rhys win the battle. I threatened the Master. I blackmailed him. Never in my life did I think I would blackmail someone, especially someone as powerful as the Master. Well, it serves him right. He was the one looking for a fight.

Sorry it's so short. The next chapter is going to be the last chapter of the whole story. I can't believe it's almost ended. Thing is, I don't know if I should do a sequel or not. I mean, I LOVE these characters, but what would happen in the sequel? Please comment and tell me what you think I should do. I'd love to hear your ideas. Lightness xx
