Losing My Mind
The candle flickers in the dark room, wax dripping off it's side to the metal floor. I flinch as a bit of salt being thrown on the floor flies into the open wound on my leg.
The salt continues around me in a big circle and Jacen takes his seat kneeling in front of the candle.
Jacen was Corlish.
How did I figure it out? Well when your being experimented on with dark magic you find out pretty quick. Corlish were the only race that were direct descendants of the Magician.
Jacen smiles at me. His eyes were a dark blue caused by the lighting. He opens his cloak revealing his hand holding a pumpkin seed. "We are going to try something a little different darling, if you wouldn't mind lending me your leg.."
"It's not gonna make a difference..." I mutter scooting my injured leg as much as I could towards him. My hands were chained to the floor and I was exhausted. Just this last black magic session and I could go back to my cell. Funny how a cold, dark, metal cell was the thing I most looked forward to every day.
Jacen frowns at me, "Now now Raina, be positive, who knows maybe this time we'll succeed and I can give you a quick death."
Taking my leg in a tight grip Jacen stuffs the pumpkin seed into the wound. I hiss but grit my teeth and try to contain my pain. We were almost done. Jacen lets me pull my leg back to me and kneels at the candle again.
He grabs the hood on the back of his cloak and pulls it to cover his head, both of his hands go to the end of the salt circle on both sides of the candle. Taking a deep breath he starts his chanting and I prepare myself for the pain.
A crack echoes throughout the room and I howl in pain as my foot begins to burn from the awkward angle it had just become. I clench my fists and concentrate on breathing as another crack consumes the space.
Both of my feet were broken now and I knew I wouldn't be able to stand for a long time. Hopefully Vespasian will be nice and allow the Strillian to heal my bones. Groaning at the searing pain I fall to the ground. Lightning I felt like I was going to die.
Come on, I could last. If I stayed conscious long enough I would be able to learn a little of the layout of Jacen's base. Just had to bear through the pain.
"Aghhhh..." I mutter as I feel some of my power being extracted. Jacen's eyes lit up into a brilliant pink and he smiles.
"Yes... Almost.. I can feel it."
I twist and contort as my power begins to seep from my body to his. Lightning crackles around him and I scream as some of it hits me. Almost there, he'll realize it isn't working, get mad and send me back to my cell.
The lightning ceases and Jacen growls, knocking the candle over sending hot wax flying. "NO!" He bellows into the room. It echoes and the lights turn on as Vespasian enters, the shutters to the windows open and the light from the stars outside shine through.
I made it, I didn't go unconscious. But my heart sank as I looked out the windows. An asteroid belt. Lightning, even if I did escape my cell I wouldn't be able to go anywhere without a starship.
"Vespasian take her back to her cell, we'll continue in the morning." Jacen mutters as he stares out the windows. Vespasian grunts and comes over to me, unlocking the cuffs on the floor he puts my hands in front of me and attaches my other cuffs. They also blocked me from using my power.
How long had it been since I felt my power flowing through me? How long since I used it? I couldn't tell, Magician only knows how long I have been here for.
Vespasian lifts me up into his arms and begins to walk out of the room. "Oh and introduce plan K." Jacen calls out. Vespasian halts and ponders before grunting again.
Plan K? What in Knights armor did that mean?
I shake my head a little, It didn't matter. If they were gonna introduce it to me I would find out in due time. Until then I needed to remember my way around here. Focusing my vision I study around me. Metal walls, occasional windows that overlooked the asteroid Jacen had built his base on. We took several turns and I kept repeating them in my mind. Left, left, right, left, right, right.
Hearing the familiar buzzing of the barrier to my cell I look at Vespasian, "Can I see a Strillian? My feet hurt like hell.." I mutter. He glances down at me with his yellow eyes and I inwardly flinch. Maybe I shouldn't have asked the assassin to get me a medic.
Grunting he pushes a few buttons on the panel to my cell and the buzzing stops. Walking into the cell he sets me down on the metal cot. He rearranges me so I am sitting up against the wall and after making sure I don't fall over he takes his leave, letting the buzzing field to pop up again at the entrance of my cell.
I'll take it as I wasn't going to have a Strillian take a look at me.
Sighing I close my eyes and try to relax my legs, focusing on anything other then the ache echoing from my feet. I was so tired, sore, in pain. Ugh! I just wanted it all to end! I had nothing left for me. No family, no friends and I knew that everyone probably thought me dead. No one was coming for me.
I was alone.
A single droplet slides down my cheek and I let it. What ever dignity I had left he had taken. I was empty, just a walking shell devoid of life. Well I couldn't walk now so I guess I was just a shell.
The cool wall behind me echoes a loud bang as I hit my head against it slightly. I was so frustrated. Jacen said he needed my power, that it was going to help him solve everything. He was able to extract it! Why wasn't he finished...
Did he like seeing me suffer? I chuckle out loud to myself, I wouldn't put it past him.
What was his aim in all this? Why did he need me? He could have taken any number of my people yet he didn't. All he did was kill them until Mira did something to turn them all to stone.
Something required him to specifically need my father and I. What was it?
Laughing a little to myself I open my eyes to stare at the buzzing force field at the entrance of my cell. There were too many questions for me to answer by myself and Jacen was only gonna give me little to no answers.
"Just focus on surviving another day.." I mutter to myself.
Feeling exhausted I begin to let my eyes shut. I needed rest and if anything I wasn't getting out of here anytime soon. "Just for a few minutes.."
"Let go of me!" I hear as I wake up from my sleep. Rubbing my eyes I look out into the hallway seeing two shadows approaching. Vespasian's boots echo down the metal hallway and I perk up. Who was he bringing down my hall?
The struggling continued from whoever yelled and I watched with curiosity as the footsteps grow louder. They were close.
I painfully sit myself up more and rest my weight on my hands, leaning forward to get a better look at who Vespasian was bringing.
Finally they round the corner and my eyes widen at the familiar crest on the front of the uniform. No. Vespasian stops in front of my cell and I panic. He can't leave me with him! I wanted nothing to do with the knights!
The force field dissipates as Vespasian shoves the black haired man into my cell. Stumbling the man whips around and tries to rush at the entrance as the force field goes back up. I watch as Vespasian smirks and walks down the hall, the new knight pounding on the force field with his cuffed hands to no avail.
He keeps pounding long after Vespasian is gone and I shake my head. This noise was going to give me a headache! Growling I grip my head, "Stop that awful noise! It's not going to work!" I scream in a hoarse voice. The Knight stops startled, as if he didn't know I was there.
His blue eyes meet mine and a pained look spreads across his face when he looks at my feet. "Are you ok? Here let me help you.." He exclaims taking a step towards me.
"No! Stay the hell away from me! I don't want you to come near me.. stay on your side and we'll get along fine." I hiss. My injured state meant I couldn't protect myself and I wasn't about to let him get the best of me.
The Knight hesitates, running a hand through his dark hair before accepting and sitting in the cot on his side of the room. I sigh, relieved before feeling the burning of my anger bubble up. Jacen knew I hated the Knights. That's what plan K was.
I hated them! Katlina didn't do anything to help my father and I.. Instead she worked with Jacen to get everything I knew and loved killed or ripped away from me.
Growling I bang my head against the wall again, a little harder this time before sobbing. "I wanna die.." I mumble letting the tears fall.
