Chapter 11: new allies

SOFIA HELD THE GUN TIGHTLY. She aimed for the agent's head and fired. The screams of terror quickly died out as she looked the man in the eye. Another ex-HYDRA agent is gone from the earth.

She dropped the weapon and dusted off her hands. Sofia had spent the entire day hunting this man and turns out, he was an easy kill. She had even managed to kill him where no wandering eyes could be found: an alley.

Sofia adjusted her suit's hood and took it off. She then continued to take off the rest of her suit. It was good that she was wearing normal clothes underneath; she wouldn't want to walk back completely naked.

Grabbing her small bag from the floor, the girl stuffed her suit into it and threw it onto her back. Making sure no one was looking, she exited the alleyway trying not to look suspicious.

Roaming the streets of New York City was always Sofia's favorite activity. She enjoyed walking past all sorts of strange people and creating stories for them. It also brought a smile to her face to pickpocket people or verbally insult a tourist.

It was small actions like those that could really make her day.

Suddenly, screams of terror pierced Sofia's ears. She turned her head, finding herself staring toward an empty building. Her eyes squinted, trying to see better. It didn't take long to figure out who was screaming. Four men were beating up a smaller man.

The girl reached into her pocket and took out her earbuds. The screaming man was disturbing her peace. Without another care in the world, Sofia continued walking down the street, humming along to the music.

ZZT!  her phone buzzed in her pocket. She reached for it and read the notification.

Sofia's eyebrows raised in interest. Felicia had just sent her another HYDRA target. Clicking the 'more info' button, the girl's jaw slightly fell. This HYDRA agent is undercover in the Air Force. SHIELD just sent out a warning across its platforms to bring her in, but Sofia planned to get to her first.

Sofia was planning to kill General Hale.

-♕-

THE PLATINUM BLONDE STOOD IN FRONT OF HER TARGET. She held a sharp disk in her left hand and protected her face with her right. In one swift movement, the girl threw the disk right into the bullseye.

The blonde grabbed another disk and sent it flying. And another. She kept throwing them until the target was cut up in pieces.

She paused and caught her breath. Her eyes scanned over the new room she was now locked up in. Her mother had moved them to a new location out in the real world. The blonde hasn't been out in society for as long as she can remember.

Her mother, General Hale, has also been dead set on training her daughter to become something extraordinary one day: The Destroyer Of Worlds. She would spend day and night fighting against something, pushing to get better.

Her lip twitched at the thought. She still wasn't good enough. She was still a disappointment to her mother. But she'll prove them all wrong. She knows it.

The girl yelled in frustration. She has been facing four walls her entire life, under her mother's control like a dog on a leash. The blonde wanted out, even if it would sacrifice everything she's worked toward.

"Ruby?" a woman walked into the room. She wore a typical military uniform and an Air Force pin on her blazer. Her brown hair was tied back into a tight bun.

The blonde, known as Ruby, did not respond. Instead, she walked up to the target and began prying out her weapons from it.

"I have something to do today so I'm leaving you alone for a few hours. Can you handle that?"

Now Ruby turned around. She's never been left alone before, especially not in a house. Usually, when her mom went away, she'd have guards standing right outside her door but this was different. It was just the two of them staying in a rental location.

"Can I trust you to stay here?"

Freedom was in Ruby's grasp but she knew she couldn't take it. She couldn't betray her mother like that. At least not yet. She doesn't have what she needs yet. So finally, Ruby spoke. "Yes."

General Hale stared Ruby directly in the eye, silently threatening her. "You better be right."

Without another word, the General left the room, locking Ruby's door from the outside. The lock would not keep Ruby in if she wanted to get out, but it was only an extra precaution.

She blonde bit her lip, contemplating something.

Hours went by and General Hale had not returned. Ruby had kept her promise so far and stayed in her room. This new room was boring, but her real room was filled with posters and decorations.

She worked out on the floor, threw knives at the wall, and listened to music. But everything just got dreadful after a while.

Then there was a faint knock on the main door.

Ruby's head perked up. She immediately knew it wasn't her mother because she never knocks. No one else knew their location, though.

She grabbed her sharp disks from the table and hooked them onto her suit. Ruby stood up carefully, trying not to make a lot of noise. She hit her bedroom doorknob hard enough to undo the lock.

Once the door opened, Ruby raised one of the weapons in her right hand. She continued forward until she made it to the front door. Unfortunately, there was no peephole so she'd have to be prepared for anything.

Ruby's hand reached the knob and twisted it open.

The platinum blonde was instantly sent flying backward. Her body roughly banged up against the wall, causing Ruby to see black dots in her vision.

Sofia Alurez stepped into the house after sending a giant ball of fire at the girl. She began heating up her hands once more. "Where is she?" Sofia spoke directly at Ruby in a heavy demanding voice.

Getting up from the floor, Ruby got into a fighting stance. "Who the hell are you?"

Sofia did not reply. She trod forward in a threatening way. "Where is General Hale?" Sofia knew for a fact that this was not the wrong address simply by looking at the teenager standing in front of her, weapons ready in hand. She then concluded that she must be another HYDRA agent.

Sofia's eyes darkened. She sent the fireball flying at Ruby and quickly threw a punch. As if anticipating the move, Ruby blocked the punch, but still was burnt by the flame.

"Fuck!" the blonde yelled, her hand feeling like it was scorching. "What the hell?!"

Sofia kicked Ruby's knees and swept her off balance. With her free hand, Ruby used the momentum to throw herself back up. She went into a handstand-type position and used her legs to attack Sofia.

Sofia grabbed one of Ruby's legs and twisted it, dragging her into a headlock. Ruby acted quickly and punched Sofia's gut harshly. The blonde rushed into the kitchen searching for one of her mother's spare guns.

Sofia followed after her. She grabbed one of the knives on the counter and twirled it in her hand. "This will be fun," the brunette taunted.

Ruby reached under the kitchen counter and grabbed a spare gun. She cocked it immediately and pointed it at her attacker. Simultaneously, Sofia did the exact same thing. Now the two girls had their loaded weapons aimed at each other, fingers hovering over the triggers.

"If you move, I'll shoot you," Ruby began.

Sofia rolled her eyes, "Yeah? I'll do the same to you. I dare you."

"Who are you? What do you want?" Ruby impatiently asked. Her grip tightened around the gun. Her weight shifted to her other leg.

The brunette glared maliciously. "You know, I get that question asked a lot. I've even given people fake answers," she shrugged her shoulders. "But what you should know about me is that I'm here to kill General Hale so tell me where she is."

That ticked off something in Ruby. She didn't like the way this random person was threatening her mother. Her eye twitched, "You are not going anywhere near my mother."

Sofia paused for a moment. "I'm sorry?" A burst of deep-rooted laughter then came out of nowhere. She found this situation hilarious. "You're telling me that Mrs. Nazi has a Nazi Jr? God this just gets better and better," her smile faded with a tilt of her head. "Now I guess I have a solid excuse to end your life."

"You're here because of HYDRA?" Ruby slightly lowered her gun but then raised it again. A plan began forming in her mind; a way to be freed from her mother's hold. Ruby is constantly being told to follow the rules and kidnap people... but what if she didn't want to go by the rules? "I am not HYDRA, I'm only here because of my mother."

Sofia read the girl's facial expression. She could tell she wasn't lying by the way Ruby never broke eye contact and remained calm. "Why don't you just leave then?"

"She promised me something that could potentially end-" she stopped herself from saying the Avengers or SHIELD just in case this unknown girl was their ally. "-certain organizations."

"If you're not HYDRA, then where do your loyalties lie?" Sofia adjusted her feet to a more comfortable position.

"With myself, of course," the platinum blonde smiled narcissistically. "And you still haven't told me who you are yet. You're clearly not HYDRA, so then what are you?"

"I am also only loyal to myself," Sofia replied, "But I am definitely not SHIELD. I hate them."

Ruby surprisingly lowered her weapon and jumped onto a seated position on the kitchen counter. Sofia was stunned momentarily. She's never had someone willingly put down their weapon when she has one pointed at them.

Ruby felt overjoyed to hear someone have the same opinions as her. "Great because soon there will be no SHIELD. That's why I haven't left this hellhole yet," she replied, checking her nails out.

This intrigued Sofia, "How so?"

"The Destroyer of Worlds project," Ruby shrugged as if it were nothing. "SHIELD, the Avengers, hell even HYDRA, all gone by my hand."

Sofia finally lowered her gun as well. She placed it in her holster but didn't strap it down... just in case. She crossed her arms. "That's funny cuz I'm also working on getting rid of the Avengers."

Ruby threw her hands up with a smirk, "So I see no reason to fight each other. Rather, we should work together. The Destroyer of Worlds working alongside a random girl with firepowers; SHIELD would not last very long."

Sofia lowered her suit's hood. "First of all, I'm not some random girl, Barbie. Secondly, I agree. You can call me Val." Obviously, she wasn't going to give some girl she just met her real name, even if they are going to work together.

"Val huh? I'm Ruby," she introduced herself. She got off the kitchen counter and walked over to where she had dropped her disks. "You pack quite a punch."

"You too," Sofia replied. She internally cringed at the compliment; she hated saying them to people. She lowered her mask so that Ruby could see her face. "How do I know I can trust you?"

"If you can't trust me, trust my hatred of the Avengers and Inhumans. Especially Quake." Ruby grabbed a paper towel and began cleaning her dirty disks. She then stared at her reflection and started fixing her hair.

Quake; an Inhuman all over the news but Sofia cares nothing about. "Alright, fine," Sofia stopped and took a look around the rental house. She noticed how undecorated it was and everything seemed brand new. This was definitely not their permanent house. She could probably even find it on Zillow or something. "Once you go back to whatever hell you came from, we can both work on dismantling the Avengers."

Ruby pursed her lips, "I've told you my story, what's yours?"

"I'll be digging the problem out from its core," Sofia shrugged her mouth. "An inside woman you could say." Then a sudden thought came across the girl's mind. If Ruby were to get discovered and she let something slip, it would be the end of Sofia's lifelong plan. "But if you snitch, there will be consequences. I won't say anything if you don't say anything."

Having an alliance with Ruby meant that Sofia couldn't kill General Hale just yet, and it was bothering her. She felt like she was betraying the promise she made to herself all those years ago, but this is for the greater long (in her eyes).

"Do you have a phone?" Ruby suddenly brought up. She reached for something in her pocket and Sofia's instincts went immediately to her gun.

When seeing Ruby just took out her phone, Sofia calmed down. "Yes, of course I have a phone."

"God, you're so jumpy!" the blonde reacted to Sofia with a laugh. "I'm not going to attack you unless you give me a reason to."

"If you attack me, I think we both know who's going to be the one walking out alive," the brunette crossed her arms, becoming serious. She grabbed her phone and handed it to Ruby.

The two girls exchanged numbers and set up a plan to ensure absolute success. Ruby would work from the outside, hurting SHIELD whenever possible and Sofia would work from the inside, gaining their trust only for it to be torn away from them.

Now Sofia is 'friends' with two annoying and psychotic blondes...fun. But, they're one step closer to ending this entire thing. And this is only the beginning.
