Burn in Water, Drown in Fire ~32~ Ice-Ice Baby

~32~ Ice-Ice Baby

(Angel’s POV)

“I…I don’t get it,” a voice said, startling me as I sat with my feet in the lighted pool. I looked up to see Zac and I wiped my face. “I tell you how I feel about you and you don’t care, but when I do something that would normal girls would freak out about cuz of jealousy you—”

“What did you expect?!” I yelled.

“Tell me this,” he hissed. “Why are you mad?”

“I’m not mad, I’m hurt and I feel like…like you used me,” I rambled on and on. He crouched down to my side.

“Why?”

“Cuz you said you came here for me, but then you’re so willing to just continue to come crawling back to Lulu,” I answered.

“I’m gonna tell you like I told Lulu; you chose for this to happen,” he said quietly and I knew he was right. That’s exactly why I dove right into the cold water beneath me. Here, he couldn’t touch me. Being underwater was out of his jurisdiction. But as I closed my eyes and thought in the serenity of the water, I felt someone grab my waist and surface me. It was Zac.

“I thought you can’t be in water,” I said, seeing my breath bounce off the water.

“I’m not supposed to, but I can be,” he replied.

“Then why are you here?” I asked.

“Because I don’t care about some element…”

“Shouldn’t it bring you any pain that your fires healed?” I asked. I was basing all of this off of whatever Joey told me.

“Yeah,” he said. “So what?”

“Why would you risk it by diving in?” I asked.

“Why should I fear something that can’t be controlled?” he asked and it triggered a memory. That’s exactly what I told Lulu.

“You can fear the person that can control it,” I reasoned.

“Well he’s not here,” he reminded and tightened his grip on my waist. He started to lean his forehead on mine, but I pulled away and swam to the edge of the pool and pulled myself out. He did the same and I realized that he had faint scars and burns that weren’t there before. I guess Joey was right about that factor.

“You’re an idiot,” I told him as I rang out my hair. “You just hurt yourself.”

He walked over to me and the look on his face just read that he was trying to control the pain. However, he stopped nearly half a foot in front of me.

“The only thing that’s hurting right now is my heart,” he said before steam started to emit from his body. “But what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”

Fire didn’t kill me, but it’s making me stronger by having Zac. By stronger, I mean mentally deranged over this boy.

It took three days after break ended when I realized that things were different about Zac. So now I sat at lunch, glaring at how Zac now had more than just Brian at his table. Now they had a group of girls.

“Lacy,” I called when she was passing me. I gestured to Zac’s table. “What’s going on?”

Even though they broke up and I still hated her, she basically followed every part of Zac’s life…seeing as she was “in love” with him or some sh!t.

“You didn’t know? I thought he told you,” she said with a frown. She sat down at the table. “You know how he went to the college tour unexpected? Well someone asked why and he said he didn’t know, because he’s not going to college.”

“So what?” I asked. That didn’t explain anything.

“Well all in all he announced that this year’s his last year,” she said.

“What? He’s dropping out?” I asked with disbelief.

“He’s graduating,” she answered with a look and then stood up. What? I got up from my table, dumped my tray, and walked over to the girl surrounded table. All the talking stopped when I got there. Zac just stared at me.

“Can I talk to you…right now?” I asked. He sighed stressfully and then stood up.

“You’re graduating?” I asked him once we were outside.

“Yeah. So are you,” he answered. I rolled my eyes.

“Not this year!” I commented. He shrugged. “I don’t get it, Zac; you say you went on the trip for me, but you tell everyone that you didn’t know why. And now you say this is your last year—”

“I don’t want my personal life spread around the school!” he yelled at me, which was ironic. “I had enough relationship sh!t about Lulu and then Lacy, but I don’t want it to be about you when you clearly don’t want me in the first place.”

“I didn’t say that—”

“Then tell me what you want,” he shouted. I grabbed my ripped-off note and then placed it in his hand. Only, he looked around and then burst it into flames. My jaw dropped. B!tch. “If you have anything worth me reading, then just say it to my face.”

I stared at him, still shocked that he just enflamed my note.

“Go on; Say it,” he said in a demand. I closed my mouth and looked down in disappointment…but in myself or him? I wouldn’t know. He scoffed at how pathetic I was before walking off and back to his harem of girls.

(Zac’s POV)

“Let’s talk,” Lulu said when I let her into my house. I hadn’t talked to her for an entire week and I don’t know why I was being so forgiving as to allow her into my house now.

“What?” I hissed when I sat on my bed and she stood awkwardly and saw nothing.

“Where’s your girlfriend?” she asked. I rolled my eyes.

“Which one?” I asked in a sigh.

“Exactly,” she said and threw a pillow at me from my couch.

“What gives!?” I yelled.

“You!” she yelled. I rolled my eyes.

“Look. You came over here to talk to me so then talk and stop acting like I know everything without you saying sh!t,” I demanded. She crossed her arms. “What is it now? Huh? Gonna tell me that you’re jealous of all those girls, or that some guy did something to you and it’s my entire fault? What’s up, Lulu?”

She just glared at me, but I felt as if my sarcasm was justified.

“Sure. I can be screaming at you for all that sh!t, but all I’m here to yell at you for is Angel,” she said after a while. I gulped.

“And why would you waste your time doing that?”

“Because she’s my best friend,” she answered.

“You sure?” I asked.

“No…” she answered honestly and shifted. “That’s why I’m here. Because I’ve been her best friend long enough to notice that she’s hurt. Cuz of you.”

“Doubt it,” I commented.

“Stop being an a$$hole, Zac,” Lulu demanded.

“I’m not being an a$$hole I’m just saying,” I denied.

“Well what you’re saying is fake and I don’t know why the h3ll you’re acting like that,” she said.

“So now I’m the fake one,” I quoted, seeing the irony. “Yeah. That’s seems about right…says the girl who stole her—”

“Her what?! Angel’s what!?” she caught. Fu**.

“Nothing,” I shouted. “I’m Angel’s nothing so shut the fu** up.”

I could literally feel fire start to run through my veins and yet the thought of Angel was just there to cool them down.

“But you wanna be something,” Lulu said in a calm voice. She sat on the edge of my bed. “What were you before your fight, or whatever?”

“What—”

She knew nothing.

“Tell me; I know there was something—I’m not stupid,” she insisted. “What were you?”

“Nothing,” I lied in a sigh. “We were nothing and you can ask her that yourself.”

Of course she wouldn’t though.

“Then change that,” she said.

“No,” I said standing up.

“Zac—”

“I’m done trying to make things work with people I care about, so you know what? Screw it. Screw this; Screw her; And more importantly screw you,” I interrupted.

“I’m just trying to help you!” she yelled.

“It’s not working!” I yelled. “Just like me and Angel, it’s not fu**ing working, alright!? So let me be with my life and let Angel be with her boyfriend, okay!? Try to not screw something up in your life!”

Normally, she’d just start crying, but instead she actually rolled her eyes and turned to leave. When she reached my door, she turned back around.

“Just so you know, if you weren’t obsessed with the fact that she’s with Joey, you’d already know that there is no her and Joey by now,” she muttered lastly before leaving. Wtf is that supposed to mean you stupid b!tch?
