Ryan wakes up to arms wrapped around his waist and a face buried into his shoulder. He shifts slightly, trying to kick some of the blankets off of them. For all he loves Luke, he has way too much warmth in him to snuggle and then put two blankets on top.

It's no use, for once the blankets are off, Luke simply snuggles closer and tightens his embrace on Ryan's body. Ryan huffs in frustration and quietly gives in to his lover's cuddles. He looks around silently. Sunlight is shining through the curtains, and the cat is laying where the sun hits the bed. She's stretched out like the lazy little thing she is, her head in the sun as she looks back at Ryan curiously.

He smiles at her. She sniffs indifferently and turns her head away, closing her eyes. Ryan frowns, feeling hurt.

So much for making friends with the cat. Then again, Luke calls her Princess for a reason.

Ryan narrows his eyes.

Spoiled bitch.

He's probably gonna have to ask Bryce for good cat toys to win her over with.

Ryan lays still, warm and cozy in Luke's arms. The bed isn't anything amazing, but it fits them both and that's more than enough for Ryan, if he's being honest with himself.

He ends up losing himself to his thoughts. School's going well. He's done all his homework, he's passing most of his classes (sans calculus, but does that really count as a class? He's pretty sure it's a torture method.), what more could Ryan ask for?

Actually... he's graduating this year, isn't he? He's in his final year of high school. This sends a small wave of dread through him. What's he gonna do after high school? He wants to go to college, and what if that splits him and Luke up? He's not too sure how well he'd do without his boyfriend.

Oh, God, what if we break up? What if it doesn't last? What if our parents don't like each other?

What if Bryce cries at our wedding? How does he deal with that?

Ryan tenses. He's thinking too hard, too much, and about things that are too far off to really worry about. A soft, lazy kiss is felt on his jaw, along with the soft brush of someone's beard against his shoulder.

"Hey," Luke croons, softly nuzzling his shoulder. "You're tense... you a'ight?"

"Yeah," Ryan mumbles. He leans back against Luke's bare chest, relaxing. "Just thinking, I guess."

Luke nods. It feels a bit weird against his shoulder, but it's also not worth complaining about. "Then don't think about whatever the fuck it is you're thinking about. Think about last night, and how fun it was."

Ryan finds himself smiling. Luke has a point. He rolls over to face Luke (though it's a bit hard to do while tangled up in his arms) and kisses him gently. "So you admit it was fun?"

"Well... yeah," Luke admits quietly. He shrugs his shoulders, a small blush on his cheeks. "I didn't know you could be so bossy and demanding like that, Ry, baby."

Ryan grins proudly. "So you admit-"

"It was kinda hot. Like, really hot," Luke announces, grinning proudly.

His face grows very red very quickly. Trying his best to think of a way to get out of this embarrassing situation, Ryan wriggles his way out of Luke's arms and stands up. "Yeah, I think it's- it's time for breakfast, huh?"

Luke's eyes trail over Ryan, a smirk on his face. "Nice ass."

A pillow hits Luke in the face, courtesy of Ryan. He glares, trying his best to look angry. "We didn't even fuck last night?!"

"Still a nice ass!"

(Ryan can't reach any more pillows, so he settles for slapping Luke's leg.)

(It has no effect.)

--

"Where's the pepper?"

"Here, baby, here." The small container of pepper flies in his direction, Ryan catching it with ease.

He blows a kiss in Luke's direction from afar. "Thanks, Lukey!"

Ryan goes back to attempting to make some eggs. Cooking was never something Ryan liked doing, but who else is gonna make him breakfast? Luke looks like he's never held a pan in his life.

He feels satisfied when the eggs are done. He smiles at his work. Ryan knows that Luke's gonna want more to eat, though, so he decides to be lazy and goes to the cupboard to pull out some oatmeal to cook. And maybe... bacon? Does Luke like bacon?

Ryan glances to where Luke is, asleep on the couch. He shrugs, not bothering to go over and ask. Luke will eat anything, according to his mom, so he's sure he'll be fine.

It's not long before he's finished cooking (how he survived is a mystery to him). He looks down at the table, where he's set everything down cutely. There's even two mugs of coffee at both ends of the little dining table, fixed up exactly how Luke likes it- little creamer, but a lot of sugar.

He goes over to the living room and gently taps Luke's shoulder with a gentle whisper of, "Lukey?" There's a small grunt in response, Luke rolling over and closing his eyes.

Ryan huffs. He shakes Luke's body. "Luke. Wake up!"

No response. Now he's annoyed. He glares at Luke, about two seconds from slapping him.

"You have two seconds before I dump coffee all over you," he announces.

Still no response. Ryan turns around, unsatisfied, and goes to get the pot of coffee. He's maybe two steps away when a hand grabs his arm and yanks him backwards harshly. Ryan yelps as he lands on Luke's chest.

Luke is quick to wrap his arms around him tightly, holding him down and smothering him in kisses all over his face and neck. Ryan will not deny he was startled by this, his hands flailing about before he smacks Luke's leg.

Him hitting Luke must've taken him by surprise, because now Ryan's on the floor and Luke is giving him a glare.

He smiles sheepishly, not saying a word. He was startled, what else was he to do?

"Come on you fucker... let's go eat," Luke grumbles, now blushing for some reason.

This makes him worried. Did he do something wrong? It's not like Luke will actually give him a decent answer, though, so Ryan silently assumes he did something to fluster Luke. He gives Luke an apologetic smile. "'m sorry Lukey."

"Sorry for what?"

Ryan shrugs. "I don't know, you just look really flustered and I thought I did something bad to-"

He's suddenly pulled into a hug. Luke's arms are tight around him, and his face is buried in Luke's chest. There's a kiss on the very top of his head.

"You are a very precious soul," Luke murmurs, "And I love you so much."

Huh. This is new.

Ryan feels confused. He says nothing about it, though, and leans into Luke's body. It's warm and comfy and...

"Lukey, the food's gonna get cold," he whines, lazily pushing against his boyfriend to try and break free. "I wanna eat before my oatmeal gets cold!"

A moment of silence goes by. Neither of them move, despite Ryan's pleas. It's Luke who breaks the silence first, lightly squeezing Ryan's waist and sighing. "I'm gonna make a promise here, okay?"

Ryan nods.

"I don't have much to offer, I don't have a dollar to my goddamned name. Just a broken down car, a fatass cat and my magnificent brain. But I promise you that as soon as you graduate, baby, I'll do my best to treat you right. You hear me?" Luke pulls away slightly, now looking straight into Ryan's eyes with a determination that makes Ryan feel completely helpless, practically drowning in his own love for this man.

He smiles and nods. "I'll get a good job and we can find a nice apartment and adopt another cat or dog and we'll call it our baby. And we won't name it anything stupid."

(A part of him wonders whether they're moving too fast. Of course, Luke's smug grin distracts him from his worries, so he'll probably end up worrying about this later tonight.)

Luke chuckles. "At least someone believes in me."

This concerns Ryan. "Are there people who don't?"

Luke is, without a doubt, probably one of the most determined people he's ever met. He's capable of so many things, why wouldn't people believe in him?

He looks up at Luke worriedly. All he gets is a smile in return, and a light kiss on the forehead.

"Don't worry about it," Luke says softly. "Let's eat, m'kay baby?"

Ryan hesitates, but allows Luke to lead him into the kitchen gently. They sit across from each other at the table, Luke smiling warmly as Ryan digs in. His oatmeal is a little colder than he would've liked, but he can't bring himself to get up (or stop eating).

The two continue eating quietly, feeling content with each other. As Ryan (shamelessly) shovels food down his throat (as hungry children do), he can't help but notice the fond smile on Luke's face.

He pauses his eating to smile back.

"You're too cute for your own good, you know that?" Luke teases him happily. He sips his coffee then winks. "I love it. My boyfriend is cute, cooks, and looks super cute in my shirt. I think I got lucky, you know?"

Ryan glances down at his shirt. To his surprise, Luke is right- it is his shirt. He blushes. "Oh. Sorry."

"It's no problem," Luke chuckles. "I think I'm okay with waking up to a sight like that. It's pretty sexy, actually"

"You keep mentioning sex. Are you- are you trying to imply something?"

Luke grins smugly. "That's for me to know and for you to figure out, baby."

--

“Thanks for driving me home,” Ryan says softly. He leans over and kisses Luke's cheek in thanks.

His boyfriend smiles. “Nah, it's nothing, baby. Lift your arms up.”

As soon as his arms go up, a shirt is pulled down onto his body. Luke tugs it down fully, then slips Ryan's jacket onto him. He also pinches Ryan's ass, but he doesn't comment on it. “Why are you dressing me again?”

“Because. This is how I make sure my clothes stay mine,” he says, as if it were obvious. Luke then slaps Ryan's butt, a smirk on his face. “Did you always look this hot in those jeans?

“Uh…”

(Ryan is too flustered to come up with a good response. He's a bit preoccupied with the fact that Luke somehow figured out his plan to sneak off with his jacket.)

“You're a horrible liar, baby.”

He sighs. “Okay, okay, you win. Your shirt is in my backpack.”

Luke chuckles, going over to Ryan's bag and grabbing his shirt out of it. He then picks his keys up off of the floor (where Ryan had thrown them to, in attempt to delay the inevitable trip back home). Swinging the keys around on his finger, Luke waits for Ryan by the door.

They get into Luke's car together, driving to Ryan's house. The car ride is rather quiet, filled with nothing but the sound of gentle humming from Luke (and the occasional chuckle from Ryan, because Luke makes funny faces when he gets really into the music).

As they drive down Ryan's street, Ryan begins to feel oddly tense. Something feels off. He looks around nervously. Everything looks the same as ever. The neighbor's dog is running up and down the yard, the orange tree down the street still looks like it's about to fall over, and there's the same two cars as always in his driveway and-

Oh.

“Who came over?” Luke sounds just as confused as he does, staring curiously at the unfamiliar white car sitting in the driveway next to Ryan's father's truck.

Ryan shrugs. “I don't know. Do… do you wanna come find out?”

He looks over at Luke hopefully. Maybe he will come along? Luke doesn't normally like having to meet new people (nor does Ryan), but maybe it's for the best they go together.

(That, and Ryan doesn't know if he's ready for whatever is waiting for him inside.)

It turns out that Luke has some trouble saying no to him, because all it takes is one little pout to convince Luke to get out of the car and hold Ryan's hand as they head up to the door.

The first thing Ryan sees when they open the door is Buddy up in the air, being held up in someone's arms. That's when he realizes who is standing in front of them, and the realization makes him gasp softly in delight. “Mom?”

Now, Ryan hadn't expected to see her here. Last time they saw each other (which was, what, nearly a year ago?), it had been when she was getting divorced, and had been going off to work with some big business across the country. And seeing her here after so long, standing so casually in her ex-husband’s house…

“Oh, Ryan,” she coos, coming up to him and gently squishing his cheeks. “I'm sorry if I scared you. I received some news and had to come into town…”

Ryan smiles. He hasn't seen his mom in forever, and he's missed her more than he realizes. Moving forwards, Ryan grabs his mother and hugs her tightly. She hugs him back, and it makes Ryan smile.

“Oh, who's this, sweetie?” His mom gestures softly towards Luke, who is standing awkwardly off to the side.

He blushes. Totally didn't forget about Luke…

Though he's hesitant to pull away from his mother's hug, he does do anyways and goes to pull Luke closer. “Uh, mom, this is Luke. He's my boyfriend.”

His mom smiles brightly, looking Luke over. “It's a pleasure to meet you, Luke. I assume Ryan treats you nicely?”

(Ryan is desperately eyeing his mother, scanning her over for some kind of signal of, you know, whether she likes Luke or not. He's not getting any bad signs, but no good ones either. Then again, considering how she hasn't yelled at either of them…)

(He thinks they, at the very least, tolerate each other. As much as Ryan wishes they'd get along perfectly, like Ryan and Luke's mom, Ryan and his mother are pretty much nothing alike. So he decides that them not murdering each other is a good thing, and accepts it.)

“Now,” she says, quietly moving to the couch. “I… I have some news to tell you, Ryan. I don't know if you'd like Luke to stay and hear, or if you'd rather him-”

Ryan shakes his head. “It's fine! You can tell me.”

She nods. His mother's face is stuck in that pretty “I'm an important business woman who is trying to look polite despite running on twenty minutes of sleep” that he's so used to seeing on her.

Like, seriously. At least Luke's mom gets the daytime off.

He looks up at his mother, smiling happily. “So, what is it?”

“Well… how do I put this?” She pauses for a moment, before sighing softly. “Ryan, I'm sorry to tell you like this, but…”
