15 | DATE (part 1)

saturday rolled around faster than taeyong believed it would. throughout the rest of the week, taeyong and jaehyun continued to meet to head to boom cafe, which began to get the red headed boy thinking as to why jaehyun asked him out when they basically hang out every day before school. taeyong planned to ask the brown haired boy when the time came for their date, and yes, taeyong had finally accepted the fact that he was going on a date... with jaehyun.

the entire rest of the week, he couldn't sleep well. the red haired boy was just so excited for the first date in his entire 17 years of living, and he didn't expect it to be with jaehyun, out of all people.

taeyong left his room, but not before checking himself one last time in the full length mirror close by. guanheng, who was laying in his bed reading a book, wished the red haired boy good luck with his date on his way out, to which taeyong replied with a 'thanks.' he slowly made his way to where he would be meeting jaehyun, enjoying the scenery around him when he exited the dorm building .

though the path that he was traveling was very familiar and no different to every other day, taeyong found it exceptionally fascinating specifically on this day while he made his way to boom cafe. the sun was shining in the sky with a few scattered clouds here and there, yet a cool breeze made the world outside feel fresh. the weather was nice and fresh, which was a great start to taeyong's date, and though the red haired boy was sleep deprived from not getting enough sleep the past few days, the aura around him was bright and friendly.

when he arrived at boom cafe, he was surprised to see that jaehyun had also arrived there at the same time. the red haired boy thought that he would be the first one there, since he left his dorm a bit earlier than he originally planned, but he assumed jaehyun was also as equally excited for this date as taeyong was.

ordering an egg mcguffin as usual, the two started their date with breakfast, as it was nine in the morning and both were starving and craving food. they both sat at their usual table, which was surprisingly empty despite the crowded cafe, and waited for their orders to arrive. unlike the days where they go to boom cafe before school starts, taeyong and jaehyun decided to eat breakfast at the cafe for once.

baekhyun arrived to them with their orders, expecting them to leave right away as they usually do, but not seeing taeyong and jaehyun having any plan to get up and leave made baekhyun surprised.

"what's going on? you guys aren't leaving right away today..." baekhyun asked suspiciously before turning to taeyong, catching the younger off guard while he was about to take a bite into his breakfast.

deciding to ignore the cashier, the red haired boy took a bite out of his egg mcguffin, only to end up choking on it after jaehyun replied to baekhyun's question.

"we're on a date!" the brown haired boy exclaimed, which is the cause of taeyong's current situation. baekhyun quickly his junior a glass of water and handed it to him, which the red haired boy chugged down, hopefully to stop his choking.

after things began to settle down, baekhyun quickly took a seat next to taeyong and began to interrogate the two, asking when jaehyun asked taeyong out, whether they were dating, how long it's been since they started dating, and anything around those lines. this time, while being asked these questions all at once, the red haired boy choked on his water that he was currently drinking, causing baekhyun to pat taeyong's back to try and stop the coughing and jaehyun to worry about the boy once again.

"hyung... you should stop making him choke," jaehyun joked as an attempt to lighten up the mood, but also had some seriousness in his voice as taeyong's coughs were coming to a stop.

"mm... mm... okay. i'll be going now. chanyeol is probably wondering what i'm doing instead of working. i'll let you two be now. enjoy your date!" baekhyun said to the two boys as he got up from his seat and smiled at his juniors, thankful to the gods above for answering his prayers for allowing his ship to sail.

after the two finished their breakfast, they bid goodbye to baekhyun, who, once again, wished them to enjoy their date. the two boys left boom cafe and taeyong followed jaehyun to the second location of the day ahead.

the two students walked in silence side by side, taeyong looking everywhere but jaehyun and jaehyun looking everywhere but taeyong. the silence between them was comfortable, not awkward, and though the two were familiar with the feeling of being awkward, nothing between them ever got to that point due to the fact that they knew how to get rid of it before the awkwardness arrived.

nevertheless, the two enjoyed their small walk around the town before arriving to their next location: cherry bomb arcade. the red haired boy was beyond excited for this particular location because he had always wanted to go to cherry bomb arcade, but was never given the chance since his house is too far away and he didn't have enough money to buy more than three tokens.

remembering about his youth and how he wasn't able to afford tokens, he began to think that he was taking advantage of jaehyun because the brown haired boy paid for both their tokens. the boy got nervous because he didn't want jaehyun to think he was a gold digger or that he was taking advantage of him.

"you don't have to buy me tokens. i can watch you play," taeyong whispered to jaehyun as he retrieved the tokens from the guy at the counter.

"how come?"

"i don't want you to think i'm taking advantage of you or your money..." taeyong looked to the ground and whispered softly, which was barely audible to jaehyun, but he still managed to catch what the red haired boy said and shook his head.

"you're not taking advantage of me. i wanted to pay for you, not cause you don't have money or anything, but because i just want to," jaehyun explained the best he could to taeyong. the red haired boy looked up at jaehyun, and the two locked eyes for a minute before jaheyun broken it by saying, "and plus, it's too late now."

the brown haired boy handed taeyong half of the tokens he bought and ran off into the arcade, the red haired boy following him into it.

cherry bomb arcade was filled with many popular games, like wreck-it-ralph, sugar rush, pac-man, and space invaders, just to name a few. coming across a game that both boys liked, they stopped at the game called 'call of duty' and inserted the required amount of tokens to play. picking up their guns, taeyong and jaehyun helped fight the aliens that were going to invade earth and saved the day (i have never played call of duty).

when the two finished their first game, they went to other games all around the arcade. spending so much time playing almost all the games and eating lunch there, the duo didn't keep track of the time, and sooner than they knew it, after using up all their tokens, it had become 4:00.

dinner was on the line for their next stop. taking another small walk to a restaurant, taeyong and jaehyun made their way inside. it wasn't anything fancy or expensive, but the red haired boy loved how he was taken to a small, casual restaurant rather than an extremely expensive one, like others usually do on their first date. jaehyun must've known that taeyong loved things that were simple yet meaningful because he took taeyong on a classic date that felt like they were hanging out as friends and wasn't forced to make it feel like it was a date. you could say it was... comfortable, and taeyong liked it very much.

when the waiter came to the duo's table, jaehyun ordered a mixed rice tray, which consisted of either white or fired rice with some meat side dish and some veggie side dish, to which jaehyun chose the white rice with orange chicken and celery and carrots. taeyong had also ordered the mixed rice tray, but ordered with fried rice and boiled broccoli instead of white rice with celery and carrots.

the two boys talked to one another while waiting for their food to arrive. the topics varied from school life to past life, which allowed both jaehyun and taeyong to know each other better. both boys had found out they they've never dated before, never had their first kiss before, and that this date was a first for both of them.

jaehyun had found out that taeyong's dad had an affair with another woman after his mom and dad had gotten married, and that taeyong's dad had kicked both him and his mom out of the house, which would explain why they are struggling financially. jaehyun had also found out that taeyong has two part time jobs that he works at regularly after school, but not on weekends, in order to fund for himself and allow his mom to have to only provide for herself and not send money to taeyong.

in reverse, taeyong had found out that jaehyun's family is very homophobic, which is why jaehyun freaked out when he realized he had a romantic interest in guys. the brown haired boy had been raised in a homophobic household, making the boy unfamiliar with anything his parent didn't tell him. not to mention that taeyong also found out about jaehyun's little brother, jaehoon, who was sick with cancer until a couple years ago when he lost the battle and died. it was a tough time for jaehyun, but he was able to get through it with his friends and family by his side. additionally, jaehyun has an older sister, yoojung, who's attending college in the states.

taeyong was jealous of jaehyun. the red haired boy had no siblings, since he was born before his parents got married and they divorced less than a year later. though taeyong told his mom to find someone to take care of her and love, his mom would always reply to the red haired boy by saying that she's happy even if it's only just her and taeyong, but since taeyong is now living nearby the campus in the dorm rooms, he can't help but worry about his mom every once in a while.

the two got carried away in their conversation that they didn't notice their food arrived until it was served to them. the two drooled just by looking at their orders and began to dig in, believing that their dishes were the best mixed rice dish they've had in their life. not forgetting about each other's presents, though, the two remained a strong conversation throughout the entirety of their dinner and got to know even more about each other, and as the dinner came to a close, jaehyun once again payed for the meal and the two headed off.

the red haired boy believed that their date had ended, but when jaehyun began walking the other direction than the dorm rooms, taeyong got curious and followed the brown haired boy.

"where are we going?" taeyong asked. jaehyun just smiled and continued walking towards a different location, not replying to the smaller male's question. the red headed boy was beyond curious as to where they were going next, but remained silent as they walked there.

after about a ten minute walk from the restaurant, the duo arrived at a park, which mainly consisted of open field and trees, but the scenery was beautiful nonetheless. jaehyun walked around the field for a bit with taeyong following along, before the brown haired boy stopped and sat down on the ground, taeyong following his gesture afterwards.

the reasoning for jaehyun sitting here, taeyong couldn't figure out until the sun began setting. the sky turned into a mixture of pink, orange, and yellow surrounding the sun and black and dark blue at the areas further away from the glowing sun.

with the grass in the field and the trees with their reddish-orange-brown color for leaves, the scene was beautiful. taeyong was speechless, looking at the mesmerizing picture unfolding in front of him. quickly taking out his phone, the red haired boy searched for a good angle to take a picture, so he can capture this moment forever. jaehyun looked at the shorter boy and smiled, seeing how adorable he looked as he watched the sun set slowly, with all of its beauty slowly fading with it.

"hey taeyong..." jaehyun quietly called the boy, who was still looking at the setting sun. the said boy just hummed to answer while turning his attention towards the person next to him, catching his eyes.

"i'm sorry... for everything i've said and done to you. i know i apologized already, but hearing the story about your past really hit me hard today. i feel really bad about what happened to your family," jaehyun apologized, and taeyong could see the sincerity in his eyes, in his voice.

"don't feel bad. it wasn't anything you could control. life just happens like that sometimes, you know? there are things we can control, and there are things we can't control, and most of the things we can't control, we wish would never happen. it's all apart of life.

"the good and bad things in life may fight each other to take the dominance in one's life, but in the end, they still need each other. they still coexist to keep life in balance. otherwise, there will be people with either very miserable lives or very amazing lives, and neither is preferable," taeyong said, still looking into jaehyun's eyes. the two kept the eye contact between them strong, and while this was going on, jaehyun asked taeyong a question.

"you... you know that i do like you a lot, right?"
