Chapter 4: The Bystander
"Unable to keep up, suddenly, I'm all alone." -Lyric from The Classroom Bystander
-----------------------------------------------------------
Another morning, another day. The sun rised as her alarm rang. She jumped and turned off her alarm before she glanced at her reflection.
Her hair was messy, her eyes red and puffy from crying, her cheeks were stained from the tears. As for her mental mind, she was on the verge of breaking.
She couldn't keep up with the newest 'trends', and now, she found herself alone.
She changed into a pair of blue denim jeans, and a plain black T-shirt. Usually, she would wear other colors and other styles, because that was her...
Or, at least the old her. Now, she found a particular taste in black. She might have looked emo, but at this point, she didn't care.
She dusted off her schoolbag as she made her own sack lunch. She glanced at her surroundings. Her parents were asleep, and Paul went to work.
"Do they even care?" she asked herself as tears threatened to fall.
Of course they care! You're part of the family, and family sticks together. Why wouldn't they care?
Oh, I don't know. There's the older sibling love, always busy clichè, toughen up excuse. I could go on and on.
They love me! You're just trying to make me negative again! I won't fall for it, this time!
Well, aren't you smart? Fine, go ahead, but you'll see that I was right.
Her thoughts vanished, once she heard the loud honk. "Bye Mom! Bye Dad! I love you!" she happily announced before grabbing her paper bag, and opened the door.
She took one last glance before walking out of her house and closed the door. The bus waited, as it had a rusted yellow coat.
The bus had glass windows that were in somewhat perfect condition. She hopped on the steps, as the bus driver gave the girl a warm smile.
This was their original bus driver, and the one that they had yesterday was his substitute. He adjusted his hat before making eye contact with the girl.
"Hi. Just pick a seat," the driver said gently as she sat in the front. As far as the girl could tell, everyone was quickly picking friends. Rarely anyone ever sat in the front, so it seemed like a good choice.
We're going to be super positive, today! Nothing will stop...
Her thoughts disappeared when she felt something hit her neck. She saw a paper ball, and heard snickers.
"No throwing in the bus!" the driver yelled sternly as some kids covered their ears, and others sighed. "He's no fun," one mumbled bitterly.
"Buzzkill," another mumbled as they laughed. The girl made a mental note to thank her bus driver, as she stared outside her window.
Houses went and go as their school was approaching. Minutes later, upon arrival, thousands of kids left the bus, as the girl lingered behind.
She waited until everyone was out before moving out of her seat. "Thank you," she said sweetly. The driver fixed his hat before looking at her.
"For what?" he asked curiously. "For defending me, and for driving us all the way here," she said honestly as he smiled and gently ruffed her hair.
"You're welcome, sweetheart. Kids like you, make this job easier to bare," he admitted. She beamed and hopped off the bus.
The two share a friendly wave before she entered the school. The bus driver watched as he, now wanted to be her teacher.
"Hey! What's your..." he trailed off, though when he saw her inside. He sighed before starting the bus, and drove off.
The girl glanced at the bus, as she smiled to herself. She made someone smile, just by saying one word. I made someone happy!
As she confidently walked to her first class, she saw students whispering and slowed down.
"What do you think about the newbie?" the first asked. "She's meh. Though, we would all be better off without her," the second whispered as the girl's heart shattered.
She quickly walked off, not wanting to be late. Her morning was consisted of pushing and being taunted.
However, what really set her on flame was her last period class. She had barely finished her lunch, and her sixth class was rather quiet.
In her last class though, during the last ten minutes, their teacher left. The girl finished her assignment as everyone crowded her.
She was about to say something, but someone pulled her hair, causing her to wince, but she resisted the urge to scream.
Keep it together, conceal it, don't feel it. The kids continuously picked on her, before shoving her onto the teacher's board.
"Freak!" "You're nothing, like the rest of us!" "You should die!" That last one was far, everyone knew, but they continued saying hateful things to her.
The teacher, on his way back, heard mumbles and ran to check on his class. When he entered inside, he was mortified.
His students were now stabbing one of their classmates. "Stop!" he yelled firmly just as the bell rang. All the kids ran, as the teacher helped the girl out.
However, before he could utter a word, the girl ran out of the classroom. "Wait!" he yelled as he ran after her.
Sabrina was getting out of her classroom as she bumped into the girl. Her friends came out as they shoved her into the lockers.
Sabrina watched as she once again, did nothing. Only this time, a teacher was nearby. The girl continued running as the teacher looked at Sabrina.
"You could have did something," the teacher said as he was out of breath. "As for you two, I'm deeply disappointed in you," he said as he taught the three last year.
Sabrina decided to go after the girl, while the teacher followed her. She didn't jump in before, but maybe she could stop the girl.
At least, before the girl made a decision that she was going to regret. The teacher was right behind Sabrina, as the two raced to find the girl.
Time was ticking. Would they reach her in time? Find out in the next chapter!
Author Note,
This lesson is entitled the Bystander. They're the ones who witness the bully picking on the victim, but do nothing to help.
They usually think that it doesn't affect them, but it does. Thanks to their actions, they regret not doing anything.
We end up thinking what's going to happen. Even though, they did nothing to the victim, bystanders are just as worse as the bully.
Now, almost all of us were once bystanders. Somewhere, within your timeline, you witness someone getting bullied.
Now, depending on how bad the situation was, the victim will either commit suicide, or you decided to help the victim. You helped them
through call, text, or by simply being beside them.
When we see someone in trouble, though, it would be wise of us if we jumped in, especially if that victim is a friend.
That or, at least try to break the fight apart before things get worse. By doing this, we could all end bullying alot faster.
Thank you for being part of this lesson. As always, I'll see you in the next chapter, and I don't own this video.
I only uploaded it for a purpose. I hope that you have a great day!
