Chapter 1

~~~~~~~
I groan from my aching muscles. Ugh, I hate forgetting to stretch. Yesterday, I had spent 90% of my waking hours meditating "to grow closer to the spirits," although you could walk outside and talk with a spirit in the forest.
I turned over from my stomach to my back, the cool air giving my bare chest gooseflesh. My bed was so comfortable, and I was too lazy to grab the bedsheets and pull them over my body. I looked up at the ceiling, where my father had painted pictures of Airbender history so we could learn it when we were younger.
Father was born into the Earth Kingdom as a fourth generation refugee. A long time ago, the Earth Kingdom had started a revolution against itself. The effects were catastrophic. They say that blood ran down the streets in rivers, and that if you dig just a couple meters, you'd find bones from the soldiers long since fallen. They say that the Air and Fire Nations had been depleted sooner than the Earth Kingdom's warriors. A ruthless act of the Earth King. The water tribes
I thought about the wars of the Earth Kingdom a little while longer. Then I sat up in my bed, swinging my feet over the edge. I brushed my brown locks out of my eyes with my callused fingers. I felt the stubble on my chin and sighed. Father would never let me hear the end of it if I went to practice with facial hair. It was disrespectful. I reached over to my tunic and pulled it on, trying to situate it to hide the hole in my breaches just above right pocket. I pulled on my wrist bands, and scrubbed my feet in the basin next I my bed. I looked over at the twin bed, where my twin should've been, but it was empty and flawlessly made. I opened the door to my room and stalked down the stairs near silently. With my Airbending ability, I could bend the air to give more resistance where my foot was so that I came down a little softer than most people.
I continued down the tower until I smelled the fading scent of eggs and bacon. Some pig-cow bacon sounded really nice right about now. I went into the kitchen to find it empty, the dishes piled high in the sink, undone. I frowned at this, then walked towards the window, glancing out. There she was. My mother sat in the garden, pulling weeds. She was an Earthbender, and thus she wore greens and browns. She was a lovely person and quite gentle, for an Earthbender. I walked out the front door, and to the left, towards the garden boxes. I knelt down at the box and help mother, patting soil around the freshly planted onions from the nursery.
"You're a brave young man," she said. I stared at her with confusion, to which she responded: "your father will be furious that you will be late."
I thought for just a moment. Training! He was going to teach me some new techniques.
"Why didn't anyone wake me?!" I rose abruptly and fiercely swatted the dirt off of my clothes.
"Don't you remember the agreement we made? At the age of 16, you have to wake yourself." She didn't look up from her work, but had that tone only mothers could hit. It was the "I told you it's tough being an adult" tone.
I took about ten steps away from the house, then I bolted at it. Using the air around me to support me, I ran up the side of the tower, and into my window, where I hurriedly grabbed my glider, a few scrolls, and a satchel with the bare essentials-- toilet paper, if I found myself alone in the wood, a piece of flint and steel, and, of course, the basic Airbending scroll. I slung the bag over my shoulder, and I held the staff along my arm. I bolted again for the window, and threw the staff. It expanded it wings into a dragon shape, then I jumped out after it and held on for dear life. I bent the air about me to lead me into the woods, where my father would be waiting in his "special spot," waiting on me.
I just knew that he was going to kill me.
Sorry all for the wait. I'm not good at putting thing into the right wording and deciding when to stop (if that makes sense). I hope you comment! I don't want you to feel like you have to though. Ooo! Maybe you could say what element you'd be (or if none of them, and just a non-bender. Everyone is special in their own way!!) Thanks so much for reading, I'll try to be more quick with my posts!
