Chapter 3
Adrian
"Josh is bringing you his report in a ten minutes, then you have a meeting with your accountant. After that, you have a video conference with someone from Europe," my assistant, Tia, told me as she took a seat across from my desk. I nodded and continued to sketch designs in my sketchbook. Tia had been my assistant for a little over four months and she'd already been doing a great job.
"What time is the video conference?" I looked up from the paper at the woman who was now typing on her phone.
"It starts at 4:30." I gave her a small smiled and glanced over her appearance. Tia was very pretty. She was a very petit girl with smooth mocha colored skin, and dark brown curly hair that flowed down her back. She was currently rocking a royal blue dress that complimented her skin tone, along with a pair of nude heels. It was no wonder why she always received heart eyes from the straight men in the building.
"What are you working on?" I heard her ask before I saw her peer over at my sketchbook.
"I'm working on some new designs for houses and such," I shrugged, glancing at my current sketch. At the moment, it was just an outline of a two story house with a flat roof, giving it a modern look. Hopefully, the full thing would be done within the next two days. The woman who wanted it was very snappy and impatient. In my opinion, if she doesn't like my process, she can take her requests somewhere else. She needed me; not the other way around.
"Mr. Hafler?" a soft voice spoke. I looked towards the door to find one of my best workers, Josh.
"Good afternoon, Josh," I smiled, meeting his eyes. "I assume you're here to bring me the report?"
"Uh yeah," Josh blushed and handed me a black folder.
"Thank you very much."
"N-No problem. I'll see you later, Mr. Hafler," he muttered and quickly exited my office. As soon as the door closed, Tia and I glanced at each other before bursting into a fit of laughter.
"That boy is head over heels for you," Tia giggled.
"I know," I nodded and began to clean up my desk. I placed my pencils in their case before sliding my sketchbook into it's respectable drawer.
"Why don't you give him a chance?"
"Not really my type," I shrugged, standing up from my desk and grabbing my jacket from the back of my chair. I slid it on my body and opened the door to my office. "Now stop worrying about my love life and go get me a coffee while I meet with my accountant."

I groaned as I tried to shrug the small girl off of my body. "Dakota! Get off of me!" I rolled my eyes. Naomi let out a loud laugh as she plopped down onto the couch, watching her wife attack me. Bitch you're not gonna help me?
"I'm just so happy to see you," Dakota giggled, pinching my cheeks. Naomi finally got up from her seat and grabbed my sister, pulling her onto the couch. Oh now you wanna help? I see how it is.
I sat down on the other couch, in my living room. "You saw me like two days ago," I pulled out my lap top and began clicking through things. I decided to close up the office a little early today and to have my video conference here at home. Little did I know, my annoying sister and her wife would come barging through my door looking for food and a person to hang out with.
"That doesn't mean I can't miss you," Dakota rolled her eyes. "Are you about to work?"
"I have a video conference in ten minutes."
"Well don't let us stop you, Mr. Boss Man," Naomi stretched out across the couch and wrapped her arms around Dakota's waist. "Go ahead and do your thing."
I looked at them suspiciously before standing up. "I'm gonna do it in my bedroom," I stated and walked up the butterfly staircase. I entered my bedroom and began to set everything up. As soon as I finished, my laptop began ringing with a Skype call. A small smile stretched across my face as I placed my headphones in my ear and answered the call. I love my job.
A gorgeous woman's face popped up on my screen. "Good evening, Mr. Hafler!" she smiled.
"Good evening, Ma'am," I waved, taking a moment to examine her. She had cocoa colored skin with dark brown, almost black, hair that was tied up in a bun. There were a few grey strands that were showing through but nothing too crazy. Her face was clear of any wrinkles, besides the slight crows feet on the edge of her almond shaped eyes.
"I'm Alyssa Petit, the wife of the man who wanted to get in contacted with you. My husband Angelo and I own a restaurant here on the outskirts of London and we're currently trying to expand to the United States. New York City, to be exact."
"Oh, wonderful! Well, I assume you're looking to have this place built instead of buying a prebuilt property?" I raised an eyebrow.
"That's exactly what we're looking to do. We were recommended by one of our employees, who used to live in America. She said that you guys were very popular."
"Indeed. We build properties all across the world and we have yet to have an unsatisfied customer."
"Sounds marvelous," Alyssa grinned, writing something down on a sheet of paper in front of her. "Well, we plan to send someone from our company over there to get everything worked out over the next few months. Is there anything that you need before that?"
"Just an date and time for me to meet with them. A lot of the time, I'm very busy and I can't exactly take walk-ins." I glanced at Riot who was biting one of my shoes in the corner of the room.
"Oh no problem! I'll be sure to call and set that up soon, Mr. Hafler. Have a nice day!"
"You too, Mrs. Petit!" I grinned before clicking off of the call. Welp, that was easy. Easy costumer equals easy money. Riot followed me as I hopped off of my bed and made my way downstairs where I spotted the two demons making out on my couch. "Don't infect my couch with your lesbian juices," I frowned, throwing a pillow at them. The two women stuck their tongues out at me before going back to their make out session. I mumbled under my breath before making my way into my kitchen to grab one of many takeout menus. "Pizza or Thai?!" I called.
"Thai!" they both responded. I grabbed Riot from the ground and began ordering the food, trying to get him to remain calm. Once finished, I placed a kiss on my baby's head and took him outside to use the bathroom.
This little guy was gonna be the death of me!

"You should start packing to go to America," Papa told me as he took a sip of his lemonade.
"I'm going to America?" I frowned at Papa. "For what?"
"I'm sending you there as a spokesperson for the new restaurant. You need to make sure that everything during the building process goes right," the old man gave me a smile. "I trust you. Besides, your mother has already talked to the company and set everything up. All you need to do is go there."
I bit my lip and sat back in my seat. "And who will I be with?"
"You're going alone."
"Alone?!" I screeched, dropping my fork, causing a loud noise to ring throughout our dining room. "And how long will I be there?" Papa glanced at Mama who gave him an uncomfortable look. She gave him a small nod, encouraging him to answer my question.
"Not sure yet," Papa muttered, almost inaudible.
I stuffed a ravioli in my mouth as I stared at him in disbelief. Out of all things he could possibly make me do, he's sending me across the world. I'd always wanted to go to America but not like this. Not alone. And especially not alone for god knows how long. "Mama are you seriously okay with this?!" my eyes widened as I looked at the woman who'd seemed perfectly fine with my father's plan. What a snake.
"Honey, this is finally your chance to prove to your father that you're responsible enough to do things on your own," she smiled, standing up from her seat. She grabbed her and papa's empty plates and placed a kiss on my forehead. "You'll be fine, sweetheart. It'll be fun."
"You're gonna have a great time!" Papa grinned and exited the room with mama, leaving alone with my thoughts and a half empty bowl of ravioli.
They said the same thing when I was about to start post secondary school. But that only led to false hope and crushed dreams.
Stupid parents...
