The Selected were escorted to breakfast the morning after the welcome party. The king and queen were already there, and the food was already on the table.

Once everyone was seated, the king spoke, "Good morning. I hope you all slept well. We apologize that Princess Juliet cannot join us. She is not feeling well. I understand that some of you may have dates planned for later today, and Juliet will be keeping those plans. For now, enjoy your breakfast."

Juliet woke up in the infirmary. She cried out in pain when she tried to move, and she crossed her arms over her stomach protectively—that was what hurt the most.

Her father had come into her room before breakfast. He was angry at her for losing her temper the night before, and he immediately made her regret it.

Her eyes were closed again as she tried to catch her breath. There was a nurse nearby to make sure she wasn't dying, but otherwise they were under strict orders not to give her any pain meds for a few hours.

A few minutes after she woke up, about halfway through breakfast, alarms went off. Everyone stopped for a moment before the king and queen stood. "Everyone, we need to get to a safe room," the king told them calmly. "Stay calm, please. You are completely safe as long as we move quickly. This way." He and the queen led walked to the fireplace. The queen pulled one of the lamps on top of it and the inside wall of the fireplace opened to reveal a tunnel. They entered the tunnel first, expecting the selected to be close behind. Once everyone was inside, the king closed the entrance again and walked through the tunnel to the safe room. "Everyone inside. Now."

They kept the door open for a few minutes, and finally Juliet was brought in. She couldn't walk, so a guard, Henri had to carry her. He laid her down on one of the beds.

The door was finally closed.
