School had closed for the holidays, and the snow was falling down like never before, the ground was stained with white, flakes fell on eyelashes and the leaves had all fallen.

Winter.

Betty wounded the pink scarf around her neck, the old thing was like a cozy blanket that only covered a part of her. Her hands were bare, glove- free.

She was wearing two layers. A shirt and one jacket. Freezing. But she had places to go to.

Passing by Pops, her eyes on the street further along. The shop was closed anyway, the neon sign dead and shutters down. Everyone was off work on Christmas Eve.

Betty longed for a nice drink, maybe a hot chocolate with fluffy marshmallows that floated and refused to sink. It wasn't a time for milkshakes.

The wind whistled in her ears, and she wrapped the clothes tightly around her, hoping to maintain some body heat. Jughead's trailer wasn't far from here, just a few more steps...

She prayed he was home. Not that this journey would be wasted, but because she had to see him.

But as she walked up the creaky stairs, and peeked through the windows, she noted the lights were off. No one was home, not the dog nor Jughead.

Well. She glanced at the dark sky, and made out a few stars, clouded by the hazy smoke. The roof was rusty, and mistletoe adorned it, curling around ledges and wrapping its thin green veins like a lover holding on.

But tonight there was no one to kiss.
