Hiking

The core four were spending their weekend camping. Archie had come up with idea at lunchtime and now they were packing to leave. "You ready betts?" Jughead asked, after he'd packed his backpack and was now watching his girlfriend pack her clothes. "Yeah" she said. Jughead frowned; she hadn't been herself recently, he knew she had a lot going on after her dads death and her mom and Polly, so he was hoping this camping weekend, would cheer her up. "Come here baby" he said, and held his arms open, wrapping her up in a hug. "Are you okay?" He asked and she nodded. "I love you" he said, kissing her softly. "I love you too" she said, a smile finally on her face. "Okay, let's get going" jug smiled, lacing their fingers and grabbing their bags and leading them out to Archie's truck.

After an hour of driving, they finally arrived at the campsite. "Okay, both couples have separate tents, so you boys can set them up and me and B will look around" Veronica chirped when they got out the truck. The boys groaned, but didn't protest but Betty seemed reluctant to agree. "I can help juggie... if you want" she said quietly. The others shared a concerned glance at Betty's behaviour, they all knew she'd been struggling with her anxiety lately. Jughead just smiled at her, cupping her cheek and kissing her softly. "Don't worry baby, I'll do the tent, you go and relax" he smiled. "Yeah Come on B" Veronica smiled, linking their arms. When the girls moved to sit down on some logs and we're looking over at the view, Veronica took the opportunity to check in with Betty. "How are you B?" She smiled. "I'm okay..." Betty shrugged. "We're here for you, you know that right?" Veronica said seriously, taking Betty's hand and squeezing. "I know. Sorry for being so out of it recently" Betty apologise. "It's okay" Veronica smiled. "We all know how hard it's been for you, but we're going to help you through it" Veronica said and Betty smiled. "I love you V" Betty said, hugging her friend. "I love you too B" Veronica said, hugging back. Once the boys had put the tents up, they called the girls over and the couples went into their tents to put their stuff away and set up their sleeping bags. While jughead was opening up there sleeping bags, he noticed Betty yawning. "You tired?" He asked and she nodded. "Do you want to take a nap?" He said, moving her hair behind her ear. "I'm okay" she said, climbing onto his lap. "Archie said he wanted to go for a hike before dinner anyway" she said, kissing him. "I can't wait until it's just us two tonight" he whispered in her ear and she blushed, making him laugh. "Come on juggie, let's go hiking" Betty said, pulling him up.

"Okay the trails this way" Archie grinned, leading them towards a path. The closer they got to the trail, the more the knot in Betty's stomach tightened. "Are you sure we should go?" She asked them. "I mean, it will be dark soon... and what if we can't find our way back?" She asked. "We'll be okay betty" Archie smiled, as they started their hike. Betty was feeling more anxious, the further into the hike they got. "I... should we go back?" Betty asked. "B, we want to go and get a better look at the view" Veronica grinned. "But..." Betty started. "It's okay betts" jughead said, squeezing her hand. As Archie and Veronica we're talking, jughead noticed the dazed look in Betty's eyes, and how erratic her breathing was. "Betts?" He said softly. Betty's eyes snapped to his and she started panicking. "Juggie, it's going to get dark! We should go back! What if... what if..." she stressed and jugheads eyes went wide as he watched his girlfriends anxiety spike. "Woah, hey, hey." He said, placing his hands on her shoulders. "Take some deep breaths baby" he said, trying to calm her down. This caught the attention of Archie and Veronica who looked at Betty with worried glances. "Are you okay?" Archie asked. "I..i..." Betty breathed out. "Betts, look at me baby" jug said. "Deep breath in.... and out" he said, encouraging her to follow his breathing. Once her breathing had calmed slightly, he pulled her in to his chest and cradled her head. "Just listen to my heart beat betts..." he said softly. "You guys carry on, I'm going to take her back" jughead said and lead her back in the direction of their campsite, keeping his arms around her. When they were almost there, jughead stopped to make sure she was still okay. "Baby? Are you okay?" He said and she nodded. "Do you feel sick or anything?" He asked, rubbing her back, knowing sometimes she felt sick after a panic attack. "I think I'm okay" she said quietly. "I'm sorry you had to bring me back" she mumbled. "Don't you dare feel guilty. You can't help your anxiety betts, I'm just happy I get to help you" he assured her, wrapping his arm back round her and kissing her head.

When Veronica and Archie got back to their tents, jughead was cooking burgers over the fire. "Where's B?" Veronica asked. "She's just having a little nap" jughead told them. "Is she okay?" Archie asked, the worry for his best friend clear. "Yeah, her anxiety is just High right now" jughead explained. "We just need to help her relax this weekend" Veronica said. The three of them spoke for a while longer and just as jughead was plating up their food, Betty came out their tent, in her pyjamas. "Hey Betty" Archie smiled giving her a hug. "Hi" Betty said with a small smile. "Hey baby" jug said. "I've made burgers, are you feeling up for some dinner?" Jug asked, gently. "Yeah, I'm a little hungry" she said and gratefully excepted the plate he offered her. "Thanks" she said and kissed his cheek. Jughead sat beside her worn his own plate, and slung one arm around her shoulders. "Are you okay?" Jughead asked her, quietly. "Yeah" she nodded. The four of them ate their dinner and talked and laughed until they all decided to head to bed...

When jughead woke up in the night, he rolled over to pull betty closer to him, but was met with empty sheets. "Betts?" He said, and looked around their tent but she wasn't there. He shot up in a panic and left the tent to go and look for her. He didn't have to look far, because as he went outside, he saw her sat in front of the fire, a blanket around her and toasting marshmallows. "Hey baby" he said softly, sitting next to her. "Hi juggie" she said with a small smile. "Why aren't you asleep sweetheart?" He asked, his arms coming around her. "I couldn't sleep" she shrugged, taking a bite of her marshmallow. "Talk to me betts" he pressed. "I... I don't know how to stop feeling so sad" she sighed. "My anxiety is acting up all the time, and I'm constantly feeling on edge" she told him. "Why haven't you come to me baby? I'm here to help you" he said, kissing her head as he listened to her. "I thought it would just go away" she sighed. "You've been through some horrible things" jughead started, holding her closer. "Those things will take time to heal, they won't go away just like that" he said and she nodded. "I know" she said. "I promise from now on I'll come to you" she said, looking up at him. "Good, because I'm always with you betts" he smiled, kissing her lips and tasting the sweet treat she was eating on he lips. "Shall we go back to bed?" He asked but Betty shook her head. "No, can we just stay here for a while?" She asked and he nodded. "Of course". They sat in silence, just enjoying each other's company until Betty picked up the bag of marshmallows and grinned at him. "Want to share?" She smiled. "Oh Betty..." jughead grinned. "I thought you'd never ask".
