Chapter 63
"If you're going to break up with me just do it"
Jughead stood staring at Betty like she had grown too heads. "What?" He managed to get out through his shock. "I get it, you hate me" Betty started. "So let's just get this over with because I really don't want to be here today" she sighed. "Betty..." jug said, taking a step towards her. "I don't want to break up with you" he said seriously, taking her hands in his. "You don't?" She whispered, her voice breaking and jughead hated how small and sad she sounded. "No!" He confirmed. "I love you" he said. "I love you more than anything and nothing you could do would change that" he exclaimed and Betty felt a tear fall down her face, her shoulders dropping, feeling the weight fall off. "I..." she started but didn't know what to say. "I'm so sorry" she cried and jughead pulled her into his chest, rubbing her back as she sobbed. "I know you are betts, I know you are" he comforted. After a few moments, he walked them back to the couch and sat them down. "Why didn't you stay? After the hospital?" She asked him and jug took a second to collect his thoughts before he answered. "I...I was scared out of my mind betts, when we got that call" he told her. "And then when I saw you were okay, it was hard to keep being your boyfriend and being your counsellor separate" he added and Betty nodded, understanding. "I also thought you'd maybe need to process what had happened" he said. Betty was quiet for a while, and jug squeezed her hand. "I thought you hated me" she admitted, and it shattered his heart. "I thought I'd finally ruined the last good thing in my life" she told him. "No baby, you haven't ruined anything" he told her honestly, pulling her back to him. "And you have good things in your life Betty, you just don't see it right now" he said.
After talking some more, jughead went to grab them some lunch from the food hall while betty stayed in his office. "Jughead!" He heard a voice behind him call and when he spun around he was faced with Kevin. "Hey" jug smiled. "Is Betty here?" Kevin asked, taking note of the food jug had. "Yeah" jug nodded. "Can I see her?" He asked and jug hesitated. "What? Is she okay?" Kevin asked. "She...she's had a rough couple of days" jug explained, and Kevin's eyes widened. "She's okay now" jug confirmed. "But I think you should leave her today, she'll come and talk to you when she's ready for people to know" Jughead said and Kevin didn't look happy but nodded anyway. When jughead got back to the office, he handed Betty her food and kissed her softly as he sat opposite her. "I spoke to Toni this morning" Betty said, after a moment. "Oh?" Jug said, not pressing her to talk. "I told her everything, about my past, this place..." she explained. "And how did she take it?" Jug asked. "She was actually really supportive, and felt awful about the party" Betty said with a sad smile. "I'm happy you told her betts, I think it will be good for you" jug smiled. They ate in comfortable silence and when they were done they moved back to the couch, Betty tucked under his arm. "Juggie?" Betty whispered, and he looked down at her. "I'm sorry for lying to you" she said, and jughead didn't say anything, just kissed her, a kiss full of forgiveness.
Later that evening, jughead was still working and Betty decided to just stay at the Andrews house for the night and see him the next day. "How was your day?" Mary asked as they all sat around the dinner table. "It was okay, I had a session at the centre and I had breakfast with Toni' Betty told everyone. "Was Toni understanding?" Fred asked, wanting to make sure she had a supportive friend. "She was" Betty grinned. "That's great betts" Archie said, squeezing her hand. Betty nodded and cleared her throat. "Erm.. I just wanted to apologise to you guys" she started. "I shouldn't have done what I did, and I don't want you to think I'm ungrateful for everything you've done for me because i appreciate it so much and I don't want to disappoint you" she rushed out. The other three were quiet for a moment as they took in her words. "Oh Betty.." Fred said, standing up to hug her. "I speak for me and Mary when I say, you are our daughter, blood or not" he stated, making Betty tear up. "You know what you did was wrong, and you admitted it while feeling remorse for your actions, we can't be mad at you for that" he said, squeezing her. "Also what you did was a normal teenage thing to do, it's just your situation is slightly different but you were safe and that's all the matters sweetheart" Mary added with a smile, joining in the hug. "Hey? What about me!" Archie teased, hugging them all. Betty let out a wet laugh and wiped her tears. "Thank you" she sniffed. "It's forgotten, let's just focus on the future okay?" Fred said. "The future" Betty smiled. "I like the sound of that".
