Chapter 4
Betty first week at Sweetwater rehabilitation centre was a rollercoaster of emotions. She had experienced all the mood swings that were linked to withdrawals and she was homesick, she missed being able to wander the streets and clear her mind and she missed her friends. She wasn't allowed to have a phone or any access to the internet so hadn't spoke to anyone in a week. However, they did have family day at the end of the month and Betty would finally get to see her friends.
Betty was having an off day. She was sad and all she did was lay in bed, she didn't go to breakfast and she didn't go to lunch; opting to just stay in her room. A little after lunch Time there was a Knock on her door. "Come in" she said and she watched as jughead walked in with a Sandwich and a bottle of water. "You missed breakfast and lunch" he said softly. "Not hungry..." she mumbled into her pillow. "You need to eat Betty" he said and she shook her head. He sighed and took a seat on the edge of her bed. "We have a therapy session today" he reminded her. "I know" she said. "Betty, what's wrong?" Jughead asked her, looking at her concerned. "I don't know..." she mumbled. "What do you mean?" He pressed. "I don't know!" She said, sitting up. "I don't know what I mean! I just... I just..." she started but her breathing was coming out to fast, too erratic. "Woah, hey. Take some deep breaths" jug said, snapping into action. "In and out that's it..." he said, encouraging her to take some deep breaths. When she'd calm down he handed her the water bottle and she took a sip. "Are you Okay?" He asked and she nodded. "What were you trying to say?" He asked. "I.. I just feel sad, I don't know why and nothing triggered it, I just feel sad" she sighed. "That's okay Betty. You don't always have to feel okay" he said, softly. "I know that, I do...it's just hard" she said, scooting closer to the wall and wrapping her arms around her knees. "Betty, in the short time that I've known you I've watched you battle your addiction, you're so strong and you've come further in this first week than most, you should be proud of that" he started. "No matter how you feel, you need to remember that this journey isn't going to be easy, and you will feel sad, and happy and angry, you just have to talk to people" he told her. "I know, I don't like opening up" she said. "We'll change that Betty cooper, just you wait" he smirked.
Betty's therapy session with jughead went okay that day. She told him about her friends and all the happy things on the outside, rather than all the bad. As she was walking through the main room where people sit and talk with each other, there was three girls who were sat, giggling and pointing at her. Betty glared at them more continued on her way, until one girl opened her mouth. "Look, isn't her dad a serial killer...". Betty felt as if time stopped and all she could see was red. Before she knew it, she was lunging at the girl, yelling and screaming. She didn't see the nurses press the help button and she didn't see four of the doctors run to separate them. The next thing she knew she was being dragged back to her room. "Hey stop struggling, calm down, it's okay" the person who had their arms around her was saying: it was jughead. He set her Down when she was back in her room and the previous events caught up with her and she collapsed on the floor in sobs. "Betty... Betty" she heard jughead saying but she just carried on crying. She felt him put his arms around her and rock her back and forth until her sobs subsided. "Shh it's okay" he said. "What happened?" He asked. "She.. she knows who my dad is" she cried and jughead hated seeing the heart broken look in her eyes. "It will all be okay" he said, wiping her tears and then pulled his hand away when he realised what he was doing. "Come on, you should get some sleep" he suggested and helped her to her feet. He watched as she climbed into bed and under the covers. "Good night Betty" he said gently. "Goodnight" she said, both staring into each others eyes until he left her room.
