Sherman's Pier

Keith sat backwards on the flat section that Lance used to tie things down. Now it was occupied with a Keith.

"Going left!" Lance yelled behind him, wind taking away most of his voice.

Keith leaned to his right, Lance's left and they turned around a group of summer tourists. Finally Lance set one foot on the ground and Keith hopped off. They stopped and bought a cup of boardwalk fries and Lance stretched in the sun. Keith recognized where they were: Sherman's Pier- the place between both boys' homes. It was sunny and the wind at the end of the pier was salty and sweet. They sat on a bench and looked out over the ocean.

"Did you know 95% of ocean creatures are still unknown. We know more about our solar system than we even know about the habitat that takes up most of our planet."

Keith thought for a second. That was random. "Hm." He replied. Was he always this random? Keith broke his thought pattern with a question. "So why flower arranging?"

Lance shrugged. "I'm gay. I like flowers. I like money."

"What does being gay have to do with it?" Keith asked, tossing pieces of a french fry to the seagulls.

"Well it got you to come." Lance said.

Keith rolled his eyes. "You can thank my cousin for that."

Lance took a fry and handed the paper cup to Keith. "I'm glad you're here. It's not everyday someone has the ability to just get me."

Keith thought. "Yeah. It's pretty lonely sometimes."

"We're all a little queer here." Lance laughed.

Keith broke a soft fry in two and chucked it at the seagulls who were now patiently waiting on the pier in front of them. They shared the silence, the background noise of birds and ocean and the smell of salt. Keith leaned back and closed his eyes, letting the sun hit his face.

"I like you, Keith." Lance said, quietly.

Keith sat up and looked at Lance. He sighed. "I don't absolutely hate you."

"So you like me too?"

Keith thought for a second. "Don't you think you're moving too fast?"

"We shared a delivery. That's like foreplay in the flower arranging industry."

Keith rolled his eyes. He had never had a boyfriend before. He sighed. "Fine. We'll go on a date and figure it out from there."

"Isn't this a date?" Lance laughed.

Keith thought. "I guess." He was silent for a minute. "Meet me at the boardwalk arcade by 8th street at 7 tomorrow."

Lance smiled to himself. "Okay, Kogane." He threw another fry at the seagulls and then stood up.

Keith sat on the back of the bike and Lance brought them back to the shop.

"That took a while." Allura noted.

Lance laughed. "Yeah."

She frowned but didn't actually look upset. "No more shenanigans."

Lance smiled. "Shenanigans are my specialty."

Allura rolled her eyes before looking at Keith. "You can head home if you'd like, I got the shop under control."

"You sure?" Keith asked.

"Yep." Allura said, picking up a bunch of flowers from the counter and opening the fridge.

Keith took off his apron and rolled it up. He walked behind the counter and grabbed his bag. "Thanks, Allura."

She turned to Lance. "You, sir, have some arranging to do."

"On it" Lance said.

Keith closed the backroom door and unlocked his bike. He rode home and walked up the apartment stairs.

"I'm home!" Keith shouted. Shiro happened to be home.

"How was work?" He asked, typing on his laptop.

"I have a date tomorrow."

"Who's the lucky girl?"

"Lucky guy."

Shiro stopped typing and closed his laptop to look at Keith. "Oh?"

"Tomorrow at seven. Boardwalk arcade."

Shiro leaned back in his chair and stretched. "Well well well, Keith has a date."

Keith rolled his eyes and turned the handle to his room. "Yep." He threw his bag by the door and sat on his bed, pulling out his laptop from the drawer beside his bed.

"I have a date." He muttered. He thought for a second. "It's gonna be okay."
