Flynn's Arcade Pt. 1 | Bucky Barnes

Grabbing your coffee mug you looked out of your apartment window and sighed. You were swamped with so much homework that night: calculus, psychology, and literature were kicking your butt.

"Screw this," you said as you threw on a hoodie and walked out of your apartment. Even though there was a light drizzle you jogged out of the apartment complex over to the arcade a few blocks down. You needed to release your stress and the best way to do that was with some good old fashioned video games.

As you walked in you took in the beautiful scenery before you: neon lights glowing from the rows of machines in the dark room, the various sounds of the different games that promised a good time, and the 80s music blasting from the speakers on the ceiling. You bounced on your heels as you practically ran towards the money exchange machine. You took out a five dollar bill from your pocket and stuck it into the slot and waited for the quarters to come pouring out. There weren't any people in the arcade besides two kids fighting over Pac-Man. As you grabbed your quarters you heard the door open. You turned around to see a man with a blue cap and a hoodie. His shoulder length hair was noticeable under the cap and his blue eyes looked stunning with the neon lights shining on them. He looked like he was having a rough day, considering his clothes were soaking wet. Your guess was that the rain had gotten worse since you had gone inside. He looked around to see where he had walked into and he looked confused. His eyes scanned the room and landed on you. For a second it seemed as if he wanted to go over and talk to you but he turned abruptly and walked to the game in the corner. He stared at it for a while before you decided to walk over and place two quarters on the screen. He looked at you then to the quarters and back at you. He opened and closed his mouth, and opened it once more.

"Thank you," he finally answered. You turned to see what game he had chosen and you couldn't handle the excitement on your face.

"You like Galaga?" You asked him. He turned to you and hesitated to answer.

"I've never really seen something like this before? What is it?" He inquired. You felt your eyes pop out of your sockets as you stared at him in utter astonishment. How could this grown man not know what an arcade game was?

"Let me teach you," you said as you grabbed the quarters you had placed on the screen into the slot. The screen lit up as your eyes did too.

*time skip brought to you by a montage of Bucky stuggling with the old technology at first but getting the hang of it as the night went on*

"Yes!" You screamed, pumping your fists in the air at the same time the guy dropped to his knees and yelled, "No!"

You had currently beaten him at Galaga for the fifth time that night. That had been the only game he had not been able to beat you in. You were the queen of Galaga but he didn't have to know that.

"But ... How?" His nose was scrunched up as he sulked behind you. You turned around to see him back on his feet with his arms crossed over his chest as he looked away angrily. He looked so cute that you didn't know what took over you as you rushed towards him and wrapped your arms around his torso. He froze on the spot and you noticed. You let him go immediately and stumbled on your words, "I-I'm s-so sorry! I-I didn't m-mean to make you uncomfortable!"

"It's okay. I'm sorry I just, I'm not big with physical contact, or at least, I'm not anymore," he said. You looked at him confused. You didn't know what he meant by that but you respected it. You didn't want to go prodding into his life story. He looked at you and sighed. He walked over and wrapped his arms around you. You were taken aback by his sudden change of mind but you reciprocated the hug almost immediately and you thought you heard him say, "I missed this."

"What did you say?" You asked as you pulled back to look at him.

"Nothing. Let's go play another game." He let go of you but not completely. He left his right arm around you and slid it down to the small of your back and pushed you gently towards another arcade game. You didn't notice it as you had your eyes fixated on Fix It Felix but he had the smallest hint of a smile on his face as he looked at you.

*another time skip brought to you by Bucky being a jerk and trying to cheat on Galaga*

You played until sunrise and didn't mind that you were tired at all. You had enjoyed the guy's company and you wondered if he enjoyed yours as well.

"So um, it was nice playing with you. I had fun," you said as both of you walked out of the arcade. He smiled down at you.

"Thank you. You've given me something to do when I'm not doing anything." He seemed to have something on his mind. He stared at you and you felt uneasy. He probably didn't want to see you, a totally random stranger, ever aga- "Do you have a place I could stay? I mean, you don't need to say yes if you don't want to I mean you don't even know me why would I even ask tha-"

"Of course I do. Why wouldn't I offer my place to you? I'm always open to helping people in need. The question is, why would you want to stay with a stranger?" You asked.

"I feel comfortable around you. And besides, I don't really have a place to stay," he looked away sheepishly and stared at the sunrise.

You smiled at him, "My name's Y/N."

He turned to look at you, "My name's James ... but you can call me Bucky." He smiled back at you as you turned around and led him to your apartment.

Long but I thought it was darn cute. Please please give me feedback, did you like it, did you not? Maybe even a request?
P.S. If you find and understand the reference to The Avengers I love you! It's really easy so ...
