Elevator's Stuck | Bucky Barnes
Moving into the Avengers Facility was the best thing that could ever happen to you. This was the breakthrough you were desperately looking for to save lives the superhero way. You were excited to work with the new SHIELD and the Avengers but there was one exception: you hated Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier. That guy got under your skin every time you interacted with him. You don't know what it is about him that just annoys the living daylights out of you but you can't seem to get along with him. Maybe it was that he walked in on you changing in your living quarters the first day you moved in to the facility. He hadn't meant to do it but you'd forgotten to lock the door and he walked in thinking you were in your room chatting with Natasha. He immediately walked out, but knowing he saw you in your underwear, you never wanted to see him again, much less talk to him. But you kept bumping into him, what's the point of the big facility if you're running into him every time you walk out of your quarters?
One afternoon, you were holed up in your room all day and you weren't planning on leaving anytime soon but you got so hungry that you had to leave your comfortable isolation because Nat wasn't there to bring you some food. The team had left for the day but you were so backed up with paper work that you had to stay to catch up so you were completely alone at the compound. Regardless, you poked your head out first to check for anyone that might be around without your knowledge. When you were sure the coast was clear, you headed towards the elevator because you were being extra lazy that day. As the elevator door was closing, Bucky ran towards the door, "Wait!"
He got there in time to stop the door from closing and walked inside. You caught a good look at his outfit for the day: a maroon long sleeve, blue sweatpants, and his hair was put back in a half manbun. You stood there awkwardly waiting for the door the close, and he stole a glance at you after he pressed the first-floor button once again to get the elevator moving. As it was passing the third floor you felt the elevator pull and tug weirdly, causing both of you to grab onto the wall from losing your balance a bit. Then it stopped abruptly. Bucky pushed several buttons repeatedly, looking for a response from the elevator.
"What's wrong?" You asked, annoyed already.
"It's not moving."
"Does this mean we're stuck here?"
"Well, for now it seems like we are," he said, sighing. You took out your phone to call Nat but she didn't pick up, so you left her a voicemail and a quick text begging her to call you as soon as she got the message. Meanwhile Bucky seemed to be calling Steve but it sounded like he didn't answer either. You called everyone from the team but no one picked up; now you started to panic. The elevator was small and your claustrophobia was going to start closing in on you soon. You just couldn't believe that you had to be stuck with the last person you'd like to be stuck in an elevator with.
"What are you doing here?"
"Well, I'm stuck in the elevator like you ...," Bucky said.
"Stop being a smartass. Why are you in the facility? Weren't you supposed to be with the team? And what were you doing on my floor?"
"I was supposed to leave with them but I thought it was best to sit this one out and to be honest, I overheard you were staying too so I decided to stay so I could talk to you."
"It's the afternoon, why did you decide to talk to me until now?" You were already getting annoyed with the conversation, and you were silently praying so the elevator could move and you could escape this torture.
"Because you intimidate me and it took me a while to work up the courage to come you," he replied with a shrug.
"I intimidate you?"
He nodded a bit shyly.
"Me? The one without the metal arm?"
"Well, you always brush me off when I try to start a conversation, and you seem to avoid me at all cost, why?"
"You know why."
"Actually, I don't. That's why I'm asking you," he said with a lopsided smile. You knew he was trying to keep a lighthearted conversation but you could hear that annoyance in his voice and that he was getting tired of working things out with you.
"I'm still pissed about you walking in on me. You never apologized for it."
"That's what you're mad about? Are you serious?" He stared at you with wide eyes.
"Yes," you said as you crossed your arms.
"Wow okay, this is going to be a lot easier than I thought. I am sorry," he said, looking at you dead in the eyes, "I am sorry for walking in on you when you were changing, and honestly I can't get that image out of my head. But that's besides the point, the point is that I am extremely sorry for not knocking on the door. I should've done so and I know it's very awkward, what with being new here when I walked in, but don't ever feel awkward around me. I was actually working up the courage to ask you if you wanted to go out for some coffee right now. I understand if you don't want to but I'm still interested if you are. And for the record, I think you're so hot under all that baggy clothes you wear. Just thought I should let you know," he said with a wink.
Okay, you were not expecting that speech. You thought he was just going to talk about finding a way to avoid each other once and for all whenever you weren't on a mission together. You were definitely not expecting him to ask you out.
"Umm, well ... that's not what I was expecting and I ... don't know what to say."
"Do you forgive me?"
"Yea, I do. That's all I was ever waiting for to be honest. You left without saying a word and I honestly didn't know what to think of that."
"I'm sorry if you took that the wrong way. I sorta had to leave before I did anything rash."
"Like what?"
"Like this."
He closed the tiny gap between you two and pulled you in for a short kiss. He pulled back and you stayed stuck in shock of what had just happened. Two seconds later both of you closed the gap and kissed once more. As you did, the elevator started moving again and stopped on the main floor. The door opened, revealing the group who'd just come back from their short mission and had found a way to make the elevator work again.
"Yes! Sexual tension finally released! Can we get a clap, people!" Thor yelled loudly, proud of seeing his two friends kissing in the elevator.
"Way to pass the time, kids," Tony said with a smirk. He clapped along with Thor and you couldn't help but laugh and shy away into Bucky's chest.
"Okay well, we're going out to get a cup of coffee, see you guys later," Bucky said as he pulled you out from the elevator towards the front door.
"Bye guys," you said over your shoulder as you giggled out the door.
