"I just want you to know that your mother made me get you these flowers." Jin said as he handed Yoongi the bouquet of fake flowers.
"She already brought me some earlier." Yoongi pointed to the ones sitting on top of the counter.
"Yeah but you know she's sweet and wants you to have a bunch of them."
"Of course but now I have a ton of fake flowers. It doesn't go well with my theme."
Jin looked around his room. If he didn't know that they were in a hospital he wouldn't even think it was one. The only thing that gave it away was the tray of medicines in the corner table along with the blood pressure machine next to his bed.
His room was filled with twenty one pilots posters all over his walls along with a few drawings from Hoseok.
There were two pictures on the small table beside him. One of Yoongi, him and Jeongyeon and the other of Yoongi with his parents.
It looked so homey that it was comforting. Yoongi had to make it comfortable since he was going to live here until he got his lung transplant.
In a way, he was glad that Yoongi wasn't sticking with the plain white walls and white sheets. Instead his room was a mesh of black and yellow which brought it back to life.
"Come on. Valentine's Day is an exception." Jin murmured, hugging him tightly.
Yoongi shrieked as the action pushed his nasal cannula further up his nose. In the end he hugged him back and fixed it once Jin pulled away. They then took a seat on his bed as Jin slid the small gift bag to him.
"I don't see the big deal today. Why is my mom so fixated on me having valentine gifts?"
"You know why. It was hard for her to spend Christmas away from you. She wants every holiday to be special."
Yoongi nodded. He knew this was true. Both of his parents had spent their whole life caring for him like a porcelain doll. He couldn't blame them because he was an only child.
When he was born and his condition was revealed they got too caught up with taking care of him that conceiving another child was impossible.
His mom had the biggest heart that she felt everything times a thousand. She was quite emotional when it came to his health. On the other hand, his dad was very optimistic and supportive but deep down Yoongi knew he was also worried.
Up until his twenty third birthday he had managed to stay out of major hospitalizations. However, when his most recent study showed his cystic fibrosis had progressed and needed a transplant his life was here now.
His parents, especially his mom, were devastated to say the least. Yoongi however knew this could happen. As a young kid he was well aware of what could go wrong.
So hearing that his lungs were in major failure wasn't too overwhelming for him. He had accepted long ago that his condition would worsen over the years.
"So Jeongyeon sent you this. She apologizes for not being able to come to see you today. She got called in to work an extra shift."
"Yeah she texted me and told me— you've got fucking kidding me. She sent me the ones with the nasty strawberry jelly shit inside?" He asked, holding the heart-shaped box.
"Oh yeah. She says they handed them out at her job and didn't have time to buy another box. She'll get you something better eventually."
Yoongi chuckled, "Typical Jeongyeon. I'll keep it for memory sakes."
"I got you this!" Jin screamed excitedly as he pulled out a zombie Valentine's plushie. It held a red heart that said 'I chew you'.
"That's a cute one to add to my collection." Yoongi smiled.
"I know. I'm great."
"What's that bag?" Yoongi asked as he pointed to the other one.
Jin instantly blushed and tried to play it cool. "That's for Hoseok." He shrugged like it wasn't important, but he knew Jin's heart could implode.
"For Hoseok huh?" Yoongi teased with a smirk.
"Shut up, it's not a big deal! But do you know if—do you know if he has a valentine?"
"I don't think so. We're pretty close and he hasn't mentioned it to me."
Jin sighed relieved, "That's great news. I didn't want to fight a bitch today."
Yoongi laughed but then he quieted down. "When are you going to tell him you're in love with him?"
"I'm marinating it. I'm trying to make our connection stronger."
"You've let that shit marinate plenty."
"Shush. What would you know? I'm a love expert."
"Uh huh. Love expert huh? Living in the shadows waiting to get a scrap of his attention."
Jin rolled his eyes, "I'm marinating it."
"Sure. Sure."
"Let's eat. I brought sandwiches. Not the typical ones but the fancy ones with romaine lettuce and shit." He said, wiggling his eyebrows, changing the topic.
"Sounds lovely. Also you got to thank me, you know." Yoongi said as he unwrapped the sandwich and took a bite.
"Thank you for what?"
"If I weren't dying you wouldn't have met the love of your life. Duh. The sacrifices one has to make for his friends."
Jin sarcastically replied, "Oh yes! Thank you, friend! Thank you for being born with an incurable disease!"
Yoongi giggled but continued eating. He couldn't think of a better way to spend Valentine's Day than here with his best friend eating soggy sandwiches.

"Happy Valentine's Day! Did Jin give you the chocolates and flowers?" Yoongi's mom asked excitedly through the FaceTime call.
Yoongi forced a smile. "Yes mom. I got them. No need to tell me that again. You were here earlier, remember?"
"I know baby but you deserve to be loved!"
"Thank you mom." He responded and this time with a genuine smile.
"So where's Jin?"
"Oh he went to see Hoseok."
"Ahh okay. Did you have any other visitors?"
Yoongi shook his head as he picked up one of the chocolates Jin had given him. "Nope. Jeongyeon had to work today. She sent me some nasty chocolates but I forgive her since she was almost my wife."
His mom awkwardly smiled, "Come on. Jeongyeon's mom and I thought you two made the cutest couple. We were sure you two would end up together."
"Sike. What about Jin and I huh? Did that ever cross your mind? No need to be sexist mom."
"Oh please. You and I both know Jin and you would never work. You're like siblings."
"Fair enough. I couldn't deal with his obnoxious laugh twenty-four seven."
"So that's it? No—no other visitors?" She asked with wide curious eyes.
Yoongi kept eating his chocolate, unsure of where this conversation was going. "Who else mom? You know Hoseok can't really visit me. We have to be six feet apart and it's not due to COVID either."
His mom groaned, "Yoongi. I'm trying to ask if you have spent your time with someone else? Anyone else?"
Yoongi furrowed his eyebrows and then he looked to his right. There he spotted the zombie plushie Jin had given him.
He smiled, "Well you know mom. I do have a new friend. A very special one."
His mom squealed way too excited. "What really? How did you meet?"
"Oh you know. I just saw him around and we clicked."
"That's amazing! Wait, they don't have your condi—?"
"No, don't worry. They can't kill me."
"That's amazing! Yoongi I'm so..." his mom started blabbing excitedly as he reached over for the plushie to show her.
He ended up spilling the chocolate box Jeongyeon gave him. Good thing the chocolates were individually wrapped because they got all over the floor.
"Come on. Get over here." He murmured, stretching over. His mom was still going on and on about feeling so happy for him.
He didn't think it was such a big deal. It was only a plushie after all but if it made her this happy then he didn't really mind.
Once he settled back in place he grabbed another candy and that's when he heard the last of her little rant and boy he wished he would've listened sooner.
"You can invite him or her to your birthday meal! We cannot wait to meet your partner!"
Yoongi's smile faded as he dropped the plushie on the floor along with his chocolate. It landed right on it.
"Shit, shit, fuck!" He said quickly, picking it up and wiping it with his shirt. It only smeared the stain more.
"What's the matter?"
Yoongi looked at the plushie and then at her, "Uhh. I dropped my chocolate. Uhh mom listen—"
"Honey, you have no idea how happy I am for you. I truly am excited to meet them. You don't have to bring them but I would like to know this special friend of yours."
Yoongi nervously laughed, "Oh mother I—"
The sudden background noise made his mom turn around. "Crap. I had potatoes boiling and the water was spilling over. I'll talk to you later honey. Gotta make dinner. Love you!"
"I love you too but wait! Mom!"
By then it was too late. She had already hung up and now she thought he had a 'special friend' who she wanted to meet at his birthday dinner.
He got up from the bed and started pacing around his room with the zombie plushie at hand. What would he even tell his mom now?
If he told her this wasn't true she'd be sad and he would look like a loser. Then again he couldn't lie either.
As he looked at the stained plushie, Jeongyeon's chocolates on the floor and Jin's melting one he felt himself panic.
Where the hell would he get a partner in three weeks?
