Absence
--------------------------
---------------------------
"Maybe he just can't grasp the fact that he's just second, Yoongs. Look, he's not even present, he must've locked himself in his room again. Pathetic." Jungkook scoffed and chuckled while Yoongi stayed quiet but nodded anyway.
"Jeon Jungkook?" Mrs.Lee called out.
"Here!" Jungkook said loudly.
"Kim Taehyung?" their teacher furrowed her eyebrows when no one answered. "Is Mr.Kim here?" she called out once again.
"I guess not..." Mrs.Lee sighed and marked Taehyung absent. It's the first time that the brunette is absent. Even if he doesn't feel well, he'll never skip school. Maybe he just got upset because of the result.
Yoongi sat on Taehyung's seat so he could talk to his best friend more since the seats are alphabetical and whether Taehyung and Jungkook like it or not, they needed to sit beside each other.
"Kim Jaehyun?" Mrs.Lee continued.
"What?" the aforementioned male looked at his teacher with a confused expression which made everyone snicker.
"Oh uhm, here! Sorry, ma'am." Kim Jaehyun grinned sheepishly while scratching his neck. Mrs.Lee giggled.
---
"Name?" the doctor asked without giving the male a single glance and focused on his papers.
"Kim Taehyung..." the brunette bit his lip while staring at the floor. Taeyeon squeezed her son's hand reassuringly while mouthing a small it's okay.
"Age?" Doctor Nam asked monotonously. "N-nineteen.." Taehyung swallowed the lump in his throat.
"So...can you tell me what your problem is?" the doctor turned his head towards the young male.
"U-uhm...I always feel this immense pain in my chest and I fainted once because of this--"
"You fainted? Why didn't you tell me, Tae?" Taeyeon asked with worry lacing her voice.
"I didn't want to worry you, mother..." the brunette looked at the floor. "That's better than seeing you dead.." his mother sighed.
"I'm sorry," Taehyung mumbled and bit his lips. "What else do you always feel, Mr.Kim?" the doctor raised his eyebrows.
"I feel weak and stuff. It's really painful." the brunette said. "You fainted just once? Is that true?" Doctor Nam asked while staring at the fidgeting male.
"W-well, maybe two..." Taehyung mumbled.
Doctor Nam asked more questions and Taehyung answered truthfully. After that, they did tests and stuff like that. ( A/N: IDK what they do, sorry.)
"You said that you felt this for like three or two weeks right? Maybe that's why it got worse." Doctor Nam eyed the result.
"I'm sorry to tell you but you don't have that much time anymore. You have at least a month or two to live." the doctor sighed and gave them the result.
"You have a very harsh heart disease, but maybe if you got checked up earlier maybe we can at least make it better." Taehyung sat with no emotion present on his face.
"But..." Doctor Nam trailed off.
"What is it doc? Can we at least save him? Is there no other way?" Taeyeon asked with sadness present in her voice.
"If you have a heart donor, you'll have the chance to live. But it's not that easy to find heart donors because it's basically suicide.if they give their heart to you son, Mrs. Kim." Doctor Nam simply said.
Taeyeon looked at her son with hope glistening in her eyes. "Maybe we can find a donor just before your time's up, Tae," she said.
Taehyun stared at the white walls blankly, "Who the fuck would donate their heart to me? It's not that easy... I don't even have friends!"
Anger and sadness is the only thing he feels at the moment. All the doctor said became muffled and gibberish. He can't understand or maybe he just didn't want to listen anymore. Taehyung wants to go home and just lock himself inside his room until the day he dies.
--
Taehyung ran towards his bedroom at the speed of light. "Tae!" Taeyeon exclaimed in panic.
The brunette locked the door harshly as the tears escaped his eyes like a waterfall.
"I spent my life studying and not doing anything other than that, but in the end, I won't even be needing that because I'm dying! Just like that! What the fuck?!" Taehyung threw the trophies and the medals everywhere creating loud horrible noises.
The brunette ripped his certificates. "Taehyung! Stop it! Please!" his mother wailed and tried to open the door.
"It's all useless! All my effort! I... I hate my life!" Taehyung punched the mirror making it shatter into uneven pieces and his knuckles bleed.
Blood trickled down his arms but he didn't mind. The anger, fear, and sadness clouded his mind that he doesn't know what he's doing right now anymore.
Tears blurred his vision as he continued to break all the things that he sees.
He hardly made friends nor even enjoyed his youth because of his studies. No one told him to, but it made him happy when he hears his name on top of the rank until this certain raven head came and just ruin everything he worked hard for.
"Taehyung! Open up! P-please!" his mother's voice cracked as she banged on the wooden door with force.
"No! Leave me alone!" Taehyung pushed his nightstand making a loud thud and shattering noises.
No one told him to be isolated and just study his life out but maybe there's just more than hearing his name.
"You know that we're running out of money but you still dare to drink and gamble?! What the fuck is wrong with you?! Taehyung will be needing that money for his tuition you dipshit!" a high-pitched voice boomed across the household.
A thirteen-year-old Taehyung sat on his bed with tears streaming down his face while covering his ringing ears.
"Stop fighting, stop fighting...please," he said but of course they won't hear him because they're downstairs and just straight up screaming at each other. Things occasionally being thrown creating a loud sound making their child flinch.
"It's none of your business! I can do whatever I want you fucking whore." his dad yelled.
Taehyung hummed a familiar tune to distract himself but it didn't work, nothing seems to work.
"I worked hard for that money! You have no idea how tired I am while you're out there fucking some hoes! And you had the nerve to call me a whore?!" Taeyeon exclaimed with tears brimming in her eyes.
"I don't fuck hoes! What the hell are you talking about?!"
"You think I don't know?! Do you think I'm too dumb to notice all the hickeys when you come home?! Huh?! What's happening to y-you?! You promised to love me through ups and downs, through sickness and health? We were supposed to live happily! You promised me th-that!" she pulled her hair in frustration.
Taehyung stood up and went to his purple backpack. He pulled out his math book and tried to solve the exercises that are written on the thick book.
Maybe this will work.
And it did. The yelling and the harsh profanities seemed to be muffled and slowly disappearing as he solved the problems. He didn't notice that his father left for good.
Maybe that's why he studied very hard because he wanted to distract himself. Taehyung continued his habit and it turned into an obsession.
It's like when he doesn't study or see his notes, he'll hear the nonexistent yelling of his parents and the voices in his head that are telling him to kill himself.
--- End of Flashback ---
Taehyung sat on the floor, still crying his heart out. He trembled and hit his head with his wounded palms.
"I-It's so unfair!" he hiccuped. Taeyeon kicked the door with all the strength she got which worked.
She went to her weeping child and embraced him, "If I'm given the chance to be in your shoes, I will. I'll gladly accept it because I d-don't want to see you hurting. Please, Taehyung...calm down." she said and kissed his temples.
Taehyung hiccuped as he struggled to breathe. Taeyeon wiped his tears while rocking him gently, slightly calming him down.
"I-I didn't get the top rank, mother. I'm very s-sorry." he hugged her back and cried on her shoulder.
"Even if you're not included, I'll still be proud of you. You don't have to stress yourself out, thinking that I'll be disappointed if your grades lowered," she said.
Taehyung refused to accept the fact that he's dying. He still wanted to beat the raven head from the ranking and have his own family. Buy a big mansion and own a car. Have a stable job or maybe build his own company. His life is planned out but it's no use anymore, that why he's so bitter.
"Maybe you should do the things you wanted to do in the meantime. Write a bucket list or something," she said.
Taehyung stayed silent but nodded anyway.
His mother pulled him up and supported him so he won't collapse. "You'll sleep in the guest room for now," Taeyeon said while slowly walking out of the room with her arms wrapped around Taehyung's waist.
"S-sorry for making a mess, m-mother," he muttered as he tiredly walked with her.
"It's fine, bun. Let's treat your wounds, yeah?" she said while making him sit on the soft mattress inside their guest room which is not that far away from Taehyung's room.
--
Taehyung sat on his bed with a small notebook and a pen in his bandaged hands.
It hurts to write but he didn't mind.
Bucket List ❤
1.Hiking.
2.Stargazing.
3.Ice Skating.
4.Bicycle Ride.
5.Motorcycle Ride.
6.Swimming.
Taehyung sighed.
Can I even do all of this? What if my time will be cut short?
He shook his head. Guess he'll find out sooner or later. Taehyung lay on his bed slowly and closed his eyes, letting a single tear escape before he drifted to dreamland.
