Taehyung- horse riding

hello im back again for another chapter. Full disclosure for anyone still worried about me: im totally fine. My bruise from the seatbelt is healing much quicker than i expected, and mentally im surprisingly alright. I still feel a slight anxiety whenever i go out in a car, but its not that bad really. And i do still get flashbacks of the accident but it's not like those flashbacks make me feel anxious or down in anyway. I just sort of look back on it like "damn. that was crazy" and move on. It still feels kinda weird to just carry on with my life like this after an accident like that. but still, life goes on, the world carries on turning. Anyway, on with the chapter. I did originally want to do a little chapter for taehyung (as in taehyung as a little), but then i remembered this other idea i had and it just inspired me a bit more, so im going for this one. I did use to go horse riding regularly, so i think i know all the lingo (innit) but if i get something wrong, i apologise, and feel free to correct me. Also i will be calling it 'horse riding' and not 'horseback riding' cause im british and thats what we call it and it takes less effort to write so ye.

🟣TAEHYUNGS POV🟣

One of my favourite things about filming Hwarang was learning to ride a horse. In the end, i didn't have any horse riding scenes, but i still love that i got to learn, because it is really fun. Unfortunately with busy schedules and such i don't get to go often, but whenever i get a chance, i take it. Like in Bon Voyage, i always go riding if i can. This year we went to the UK for Bon Voyage. Wales to be exact. It's a nice place, and different to the places we've been before. I love the scenery, and since our producers know how much i love horse riding, they said we could all go. This will be the first time we've all been horse riding together, since the last time at malta Yoongi wasn't there, so im excited for all seven of us to go riding. (lowkey though im sad yoongi wasn't there for the horse riding cause i want to see him horse riding hehe)

The best thing about horse riding is going fast, cantering or even galloping, it's just so thrilling. Even though it can be dangerous, as long as you know what you're doing and you trust the horse, its really fun. Horses really are beautiful animals.

I talk excitedly all the way to the stables, perhaps going a bit overboard and info-dumping, but im excited! can you blame me? I only get to go riding once a year at best, so i have to make the most of it. The others seem either nervous or indifferent, and it annoys me that i can't share my excitement with them, but hopefully once they get started they'll see how fun it is. Especially yoongi. He seems to be extra nervous, probably cause he's never done it before, and hes not a huge animal person either. I assure him its ok and he can just stay at a walk the whole time, but that doesn't seem to ease his nerves.

We arrive at the stables, and already the scenery is beautiful, big green fields with grazing horses, other students having lessons, some jumping. It only makes me even more excited. The stables back up onto a forest, where they often go for hacks (which is just riding out), and its where we'll be going today. While we get checked in i go and say hi to the horses in the stables, stroking their soft gentle noses while listening to their soft breaths. I didn't know this, but turns out we're getting the full experience today. We get to help groom and tack up (tack = saddle and bridle) the horses before we ride them and so i get extra excited. I've always wanted to help tack up. We each get the help of an instructor, who help us groom and tack up the horses since we've never done it before. My instructor leads me to maddie, a beautiful chesnut coloured horse, who seems calm and gentle. He hands me a sugar cube and helps me feed it to her, and her soft lips tickle the palm of my hand and makes me giggle a little. We enter the stall and the instructor hands me a brush, telling me to brush her main coat. He explains it all simply and visually, which im greatful for, and we both brush her together, until she's clean. I then brush her mane while the instructor brushes her tail, since thats a bit more complicated to do.

I've never tacked up a horse before, but im glad maddie is very calm and subdued, and she stays perfectly still, even when i make a few mistakes. I pat her neck and then im handed the reins and lead her out of the stall. I beat the others, and they come out with their horses just a little later. We all mount our horses, and a few of the other instructors join us, leading the way, while the others lead those who aren't as confident. I stay near the front, since they said we can canter and stuff during the hack which the others wont be able to do.

------------------------------(small timeskip)-----------------------------

The scenery looked so pretty, the specks of light on the ground coming through the trees, the leaves blowing in the gentle wind. It was nice and peaceful (other than the odd hoseok panic noise), listening to just the rustling of leaves and the clicks of hooves on the ground.

The instructor in front of me twists around, asking if i want to go faster, and i nod. He kicks into a trot, so i follow. We trot for a little while before he twists around again asking if i want to go faster. I nod again, and he kicks again into a canter, so i follow. It takes a little encouragement, but maddie eventually goes into a canter. I feel that rush again, and wish i could go faster, but they said we can't. I feel bad for leaving the others behind, but they'll catch up. After a few minutes we come up to some harder ground, so we have to slow down. The instructor signals with his hands to slow down, so i do, and we eventually stop, to wait for the others to catch up.

A person walks past with their dog, and their dog starts barking, loud deep barks. This doesn't seem to sit well with maddie. She starts fidgeting, and I get a little nervous. I clench onto the reins tightly and grip onto the saddle in fear that she might start spooking and/or bucking and rearing. I say a few "woah"s and eventually she calms and the dog owner apologises. Suddenly im scared. I'd never really been scared while riding horses before. I'd never experienced being on a horse while it spooks. Now my confidence has suddenly been knocked, but i daren't show it. The instructor gives me a questioning thumbs up alongside words i don't understand, so i just nod and give a quick thumbs up back.

Eventually the others catch up, and I smile as if nothing ever happened. Some of the others, that being namjoon, jimin and jungkook even did a little trot, and told me how excited they were about it. I feigned excitement, hiding the strong beating of my heart in my head.

We walk the rest of the way back, and i felt myself calm down, other than being a little shaken. Shaken that i might have just lost all the confidence i'd built over the years in riding horses. We exit the forest, and theres a long path down between fields to the stables. The instructor takes off, cantering down the stretch. I didn't want to, but maddie followed, and made me panic. I felt like i had no control, and i scrambled to grab the reins and tighten them. I felt like a mess, limbs bouncing and flopping everywhere, and the next thing i knew i was losing my balance. (fun fact this is a real thing that happened to me one time, only i wasn't badly injured afterwards) I can only feel as my body slips off to the right, and the next thing i know, all the wind is knocked out of me as i land harshly on my back. Maddie continues to run without me, all the way back to the stables, and im left on the floor, shocked and winded. The instructor behind me, who was only trotting with the others, signalled for them to slow down, and stopped to make sure i was ok.

...Am i ok?

I can't really tell. Im not in pain, but im out of breath and my heart is thumping. It feels like my ribcage has collapsed inwards not allowing me to take full proper breaths, and the sky above me is spinning.

"That was a bad fall, are you ok?" She asks, though i don't really know what she's saying. The others look around worriedly, not sure what to do. As the adrenaline starts to fade, i start to feel the pain. My ribs ache harshly, and the pain intensifies with each breath, making it harder to catch my breath.

"I can't....breathe..." I mumble. I can feel my heart racing from panic at the realisation, that i can't breathe. I can't breathe.

I can't breathe. I can't breathe. I can't breathe. I can't breathe. I can't breathe. I can't breathe. I can't breathe. I can't breathe. I can't breathe. I can't breathe. I can't breathe. I can't breathe. I can't breathe. I can't breathe.

🔵NAMJOON'S POV🔵

I feel a strong urge to get off my horse, but at the same time i know i shouldn't. I'm not experienced enough to know what to do. These horses are animals, after all, with their on conscious. Who knows what they might do. I don't want to end up causing any more harm, and knowing the way i am, i probably would.

I hear taehyung say he can't breathe. I can see the panic in his eyes as he lay there. I tell the instructor that he said he can't breathe, and its clear that they are panicking a little too.

"Ok umm..." She quickly gets up, takes the reins over her horses head, and hands them to me. It's a little daunting. "Just ride back to the stables with the others, keep a hold of the reins and she'll follow. I'll call an ambulance." She says, before promptly making her way back to tae. I do what she says, staying at a walk as we make our way back to the stables, with me leading her horse back too. The other instructor who was infront of taehyung had already gotten off and hurriedly shut his and taehyungs horse away in their stables, and helped us put ours away before we rushed back to taehyung.

He's still panicking, taking very short, strained breaths. I can see tears rolling down his cheeks, but he doesn't have enough breath to sob. I know if he did, he would be. I very gently take his hand and rub it with my thumb a little, with hopes he can feel it and would comfort him even in the slightest.

"An ambulance is coming taehyungie, hold tight." I say, but i get no response from him. He's too busy trying to catch his breath. I reach up and carefully unclip his helmet, thank god he had one on. As much as i want to take it off in the hopes it would make him more comfortable, i'm told its best if i don't, since we don't know if he has any spinal injuries or anything like that. All we can do is wait anxiously until the ambulance arrives.

Taehyungs lips have started to turn purple, on their way to turning blue from lack of oxygen. He's not getting enough oxygen. If he goes without oxygen for too long, he'll end up with brain damage, or worse...

Please breathe, taehyung.

I hear the sirens in the distance, and soon i see the bright yellow of the ambulance, pulling into the carpark of the stables.

"Just a little longer taehyungie, the ambulance is here, they'll help you i promise." I say, though I don't even really know if he's fully conscious anymore.

I step back as they get to work, starting straight away with intubating him. They get his SPO2 levels while the other prepares the intubation tube, and they're incredibly low. If he goes much longer...

They get to work, intubating him, and they sedate him just after, and they can see his spo2 levels going up now he's actually breathing properly, however they're still not going up to 100%. This is a cause for worry. They suspect he might have a punctured lung. They cut open his shirt so they can place heart monitors on his chest, but while doing so they notice the bruising starting to form around his ribs.

"I think he might have broken a rib. Maybe multiple." one paramedic says to the other. The other nods.

"Do you think you could help me get the gurney from the ambulance so we can bring it over here?" One of the paramedics asks me. I nod, and follow him to the ambulance. I help him wheel the gurney over to taehyung, while the other paramedic stays with him to make sure he's ok.

They slowly ease the helmet off of his head, being very careful to not move his head or neck much. He's then slid onto a board, with the help of me and a few of the others, and his head is strapped into a block to keep it stable so it doesn't move around and cause any more damage.

⚫3RD PERSON POV⚫

Taehyung stays sedated through the whole process, while they do various x-rays and scans to see what the damage is. They thought it was probably for the best that he stays sedated so he doesn't panic and mess up his breathing. The others are told to wait in the waiting room, or go home and be called back when they can see him. They decide to head back to the place they were staying just to get changed and then head back to the hospital and wait for him there. It was a nerve-wracking wait, with each of them having moments where they realise the severity of what happened, and they are all there to comfort each other during those moments. It was scary for them. They still didn't know if taehyung had any spinal damage, and if he did, that would most likely mean he wouldn't be able to dance anymore. They still didn't know if taehyung had any brain damage from lack of oxygen, and if he did, it could mean many things: he might not walk, he might not talk, he might have little motor skills left. It was terrifying.

The scans showed that tae had a couple broken ribs, and that the broken bone punctured his right lung. Luckily they hadn't found any spinal damage, so that was out of the question, and they couldn't see any noticeable brain damage from the scans, but they won't know for sure until he wakes up. For now, he stayed intubated, and had a tube in his chest to suck out the extra air around his lung so it can expand and heal on its own.

When the others are told the news, they feel an overwhelming sense of relief, so much Jimin nearly passed out. They get to go see him now, and their hearts ache at the sight of Taehyung, the usually bright and bubbly taehyung, now lying there with tubes and wires attached to him at various angles and a tube shoved down his throat. But at least they know now, he will be ok.

---------------------------------------------------

After a week or so in hospital, tae was let go. He was still in a lot of pain, and had to take it easy, but at least he was free. He hated being stuck in that hospital, constantly being poked and prodded.

The others noticed how miserable he seemed after the accident, and kept trying to talk to him about it, but he always shrugged it off. Truthfully, he just felt a little embarrassed. He used to be so good at horse riding, but now he knew it would be unlikely he'd ever get on a horse again. It was sad, since it was something he enjoyed so much.

After a few days, they flew back to korea, after making sure it was safe fore taehyung of course. They took the long route, driving over to france first, then driving through europe for a bit so the flight wouldn't be as long. While it was a lot of driving, taehyung would much rather drive for a bit than deal with a ridiculously long flight. It also meant they got to provide some more footage of them exploring some places in europe to make up for what they'd lost in regards of bon voyage. How they were going to explain it they don't know, but it would probably be best to just tell the fans straight up what happened than try and lie about it.

At least he could still dance.

Im sorry thats such a shit ending but i don't know how to end it lmao. I hope you enjoyed! I don't have much else to say. Just make sure you've commented on any A/Ns you want me to keep cause i shall be deleting them all soon.

OH Also me and my other sickfic-writer-friends have made a lil collab book, so head over to @SpoonChild_MochiDee to go read the first chapter that went up yesterday. who can say no to extra sickfic content ay?

anyway, otherwise i have nothing else to say really. I hope y'all are having a good summer, unless you're in the southern hemisphere, in which case i hope you're having a good winter lmao. Its so hot here in england rn im dying i've never sweat so much in my life.
