Hoseok- car crash
Hello! i'm back after my mini break. By the time you're reading this, all my assignments will be done and handed in, and i can finally relax. I can finally have a christmas where i don't have work to be doing, for the first time in god knows how many years. (Jk turns out one of them is due in January lol) Anyway, idk if it'll be before/after christmas when you're reading this, but either way i hope you have a good christmas. Also its my birthday soon, turning the big 1 9. scary stuff. But yeah, thats irrelevant.
This will be LOOSELY based on my experience in a car crash. This isn't my exact story, i wrote that in another chapter a while ago. This is just loosely based on that experience. Ok, now that's out the way, lets get on with it!
Hoseok was excited when he was told they had a break. He was so excited to go home and see his family. Don't get him wrong, he loves his job so much, but its nice to get to spend time with his family again, properly, without being interrupted by schedules or business meetings.
He was also excited that it meant he got to drive his new car he just got. he wasn't sure whether it was worth buying a car or not, since they always get taken everywhere in their managers car, but he could drive himself this time.
And so he set out on the journey down to gwangju, happily tapping the steering wheel to the beat of the music playing over the radio. He even rolled the window down at one point, letting his soft, bouncy hair blow around in the wind.
The display lit up; he was being called by his father. he answered, and thanks to the wonders of technology, he could carry on driving without looking away or being distracted.
"Hiya hoseok! are you on your way?" hoseok smiled hearing his fathers voice.
"yes appa! i'm just leaving Seoul now!" he says, looking at a passing road sign with a smile.
"ah! wonderful! We shall see you soon! Mickey is eagerly waiting!" Hoseok chuckles, thinking about seeing his dog again.
"im eagerly waiting to see him!" Hoseok replied.
"i shall let you go now hoseok-ah, don't want you to get too distracted now." his father says,
"yep, see you in a few hours appa!" Hoseok says excitedly, before the two say goodbye and hang up. His hands come away from the wheel for a moment to clap and flap excitedly. He's so happy to be seeing his family.
His journey goes well, and he makes sure to stop at service stations to rest a little and stay fed and hydrated. He continues to smile the whole way there. He's so excited to see his family again, he just can't get them off his mind.
He looks up and sees a sign saying "you are now entering: Gwangju." And he smiles a bright smile. He's almost there. Just a few minutes now.
He turns a corner, and drives down the road. The Satnav took him through a different route, but he thought he'd go that way since it seems to be quicker. He drives just a few yards down the road. And thats when it all happened.
He saw a flash of colour out of the corner of his vision, followed by horns and screeching tyres, and the next thing he knew he was jostled about in the car seat, and opened his eyes to see his beautiful new car, the windscreen shattered, smoke coming from somewhere, airbags all deployed and now deflated.
His hands shake and he starts to sob, almost involuntarily. His lungs spasm and he can't get a proper breath in. His hands come up to his face with a tremor, and he stays there, sobbing, lungs spasming. He couldn't think straight. His mind was swirling with mixed thoughts of "omg i was just in a car crash", "my new car is trashed" and "what about my family". His brain was a mess.
He heard the door handle click, and he looked up from his hands to see a friendly but worried face of a passer-by. They were a little shocked to see Jung Hoseok when they opened the door, but that doesn't mean they weren't going to help him.
"Are you ok sir?" They ask, watching with worry as his chest rises and falls in an irregular pattern, tears leaking out of his eyes with no control. Hoseok can't even answer, too shaken up.
"mind if i just unclip your seatbelt?" They ask politely, leaning over to unclip it for him. Hoseok continues to stay silent, just sobbing and gasping for air. He can't stop shaking, and his mind is messy. His vision starts swirling, and he feels dizzy, though he wouldn't dare mention it.
"Do you think you can stand up? you can sit in my car so you're out of the way of the wreck, ok?" He simply follows along as they gently take his hand and guide him to their car. They can feel how much he's shaking, and his chest is still visibly rising and falling irregularly. He needs to get control over his breathing, but it doesn't look like that'll happen any time soon.
"Ambulance and police are on their way, ok? Just sit tight." Hoseok isn't focusing on what they're saying, all he can think about is how just moments ago he was smiling happily about seeing his family, and now he's sat in a strangers car, shaking uncontrollably.
"Are you hurt anywhere?" They ask. Hoseok can't really tell. His whole body just feels numb. He just shakes his head. "You're shaking so much, poor thing."
Before long, sirens start sounding and and an ambulance arrives. Paramedics are guided over to Hoseok, and they crouch down in front of him.
"Are you ok?" One of them asks, a lot of sympathy in their voice. Hoseok still doesn't feel like he can respond, he's too shaken. "You're shaking a lot, poor thing." They say, placing their bag down before standing up again.
"I'm just going to check to make sure you haven't injured your back at all, ok?" Hoseok just nods, and she starts to feel down his spine. All is good, his back isn't injured.
The paramedics poke and prod around, and all Hoseok can do is sit and stare and shake. His finger gets pricked as they get his blood sugar levels, and the sting reminds him that he is in fact alive; that this isn't all a dream.
"I'm sorry, I really should get to work. I can't be too late." The woman says. Judging by her uniform she looks to be a nurse or carer of some kind.
"No problem" the paramedic says "we'll move into the ambulance." She smiles, and Hoseok just continues to stare into the distance. One of them takes hoseoks hand and helps him stand up, and he walks with them.
He'd walked a couple steps, not far from the ambulance, but the spinning in his head got worse, and he stopped in his tracks with a whimper. Black spots clouded his vision, and he held his hands out in front of him for guidance when he couldn't see, but the next thing he knew, his muscles relaxed, and he crumpled to the floor.
The paramedics quickly caught him, and one of them picked him up bridal style, to carry him to the ambulance since it was only a few steps away. They place him on the gurney, fanning him gently while the other gets out the oxygen mask and puts it over his nose and mouth.
"He probably just passed out from shock," One of them says to the other, "The poor thing was shaking so much"
The other nods, still fanning, and he starts to come around. He lets out soft whimpers as he starts to come to, very confused at first.
"Hi hoseok, you just fainted honey, its ok." Hoseok whimpers with a confused tone, trying to sit up, but he gets pushed down.
"Just relax, don't worry, its ok." They say, moving around him to get vitals and make sure hoseok is ok.
"...appa..." Hoseok mumbles. His family is waiting for him. They have no clue what is happening.
"Hoseok, can you tell me what day it is today?" They ask, testing to make sure he still has his memory.
"August 3rd"
They nod, confirming he can remember. One of them help him sit up, and press the stethoscope against his chest under his shirt, checking his heart and breathing, before giving the all clear. His senses are coming back to him as reality has set in. He can talk now.
"w-will i have to go to hospital?" He asks, worrying about his family. They're all completely clueless. For all they know, he's still on his way.
"I think it would be best if you do. I'm pretty sure you just fainted from shock, but since it was a pretty bad accident we need to get scans just to be sure there's no head injury or anything."
"I-I need to call me family, tell them what happened." Hoseok says. He can't imagine what they're thinking.
"You can do that. Is your phone on you? or is it in the car?" The paramedic asks.
"Its still in the car. might be smashed for all i know" Hoseok says with a half-hearted chuckle.
"Shall i go see if i can find it for you? i don't want you moving too much right now."
"s-sure. I think i left it on the passenger seat." The paramedic goes to look and comes back with his phone. The screen has a crack on it, but otherwise its fine. Its still useable. He shakily dials his father, taking deep breaths to stop him from breaking down into tears.
He plays with his fingers as it rings, eagerly waiting for his father to pick up.
"Hoseokie! are you nearly here?" Theres a lump in his throat that he coughs away before replying.
"Appa.... i was just in a car accident... im ok im not hurt or anything. I don't think so anyway, i'm just shaken. I'm sorry"
"Oh don't apologise hoseok, where abouts are you? I'll come over."
"Oh uh, don't worry about that appa, they're taking me to hospital just cause i passed out for a moment. They're sure it was just from shock but they have to do scans to be sure. Just go to the hospital and meet me there."
"sure thing hoseokie. What about your car? Is it redeemable?"
"I doubt it. The whole front end is trashed, so... actually it might be useful if you came just to take all my stuff home."
"Ah, yes, good thinking hoseok. I'll come over and take your stuff home and then come and get you from the hospital. ok?"
"Yeah."
"Don't worry about it hoseok. I know its a little scary but you're ok. These things happen. We're just lucky you weren't badly hurt, ay?"
"Y-yeah..." His fathers comfort chokes him up a little.
"Ok, i'm on my way son. Sit tight."
It only took a few minutes for hoseoks father to arrive and he was allowed into the ambulance, immediately squeezing his son tight. Hoseok couldn't hold back the tears as his father embraced him. He was so glad he was live right now. His father muttered various comforting phrases in his ear as they hugged, until eventually he was tired out from crying.
"I won't hold you back much longer. I'll go get the things from your car and take them home and then come and get you from hospital, ok?" Hoseok nods, sitting back down on the gurney in the ambulance, and all the doors are shut, and before long they're driving off to hospital. He gets his phone out, sending a message to the groupchat with the rest of the members, saying he was just in a car crash, as well as alerting the manager. It was bound to get out to the public at some point, but he wasn't afraid since it was already established that it wasn't hoseoks fault. The other driver had already admitted it was their fault, though hoseok couldn't help but feel a little guilty anyway.
"Are you doing better now? You're not shaking as much" the paramedic asks, and hoseok nods. He is starting to feel the bruises from the seatbelt, but he didn't complain since the seatbelt kept him alive. He'd dealt with worse pains in his life. Some bruising was nothing for him.
He's led to the radiology ward, and booked in for a CT scan to check his brain isn't damaged. He waits around at the hospital for a while, but he's got enough to occupy the time with all the members messaging frantically, asking if he's ok and managers asking questions for publicity things.
Eventually his name was called, and he was led into the room with a big scary looking machine. He lays down, and is given some headphones to try and distract from the loud whirring of the machine. He wasn't a fan of the loud clunking, but before he knew it, it was over, and he was led to the waiting room again. He texted his dad to say he'll need picking up soon, and his name is called again as he's led to a consultation room. The doctor assures that there is no damage to his brain, and he can be set free.
By this point it was the evening, and hoseok was hungry. He slowly lowered himself into the passenger seat of his dads car, the bruising from the seatbelt was really starting to hurt now. Being in a car again was already giving him anxiety, but his dad drove slow, taking side streets and staying off the highway so as to not scare hoseok too much. But still he couldn't help but flinch a little when they drove past a junction.
They got home to a nice meal, made by his mother. The warm soup soothed him, a nice comfort after that mess of a day.
At least he was home.
