🍭Path (MYG)

She followed the same path everyday.

She'd greet the old lady tending to her flowers, in the morning. Hum along the road as she made her way to the bus stop.

Sometimes, she found a seat to sit in the bus, other times, she would travel standing, just like he did.

They'd part ways once at the University but he was sure he'd see her again, for she followed the same path everyday.

He didn't know what classes she attended. He just knew, she went in the biology department.

At about one thirty in the afternoon, her chrysanthemum scent would tickle his senses as she'd pass his table in the cafeteria. He was addicted to that scent.

She'd then sit on a table right across from him, laughing and chatting with her group of friends. He'd always discreetly look at her. Sometimes, twirling her dark hair around her finger, sometimes hitting her friend's arm playfully.

He'd study how flawless she was, even though he could see the few exterior flaws in the form if scars obtained in childhood. She was as flawless from inside as she was from outside. For him.

When he was done with the last class of his day, which was generally a musical session in the auditorium, he'd see her sitting on the auditorium stairs. Accompanied either by her friends or her books, she'd be there. Always.

He knew it was just because the auditorium stairs were a popular hangout place for the students. But his mind and heart, which seemed always to be on the same page, thought, she was there for him.

He was contented with his little fantasy, afterall he knew, a girl, a woman like her would want nothing to do with someone like him.

He lived like this, in his small fantasy for four years. Days, months and years passed. His friends encouraged him always to speak to her but the moment their eyes connected, he'd run away. He was scared of her rejection.

He was scared, she'd find him repulsive just by the choice of his black and white clothes.

A miracle happened somehow. Or, he wanted to call it a miracle.

He saw her on the stairs for the umpteenth time in four years. Today, however, she was surrounded by neither the friends nor the books.

She just stood there, her dark hair flowing freely on her shoulder, her yellow, summer dress fluttering about her knees. That wasn't all though.

She was looking at him. Only him.

His heart threatened to burst out of his chest. Drops of perspiration formed on his forehead as she came to stand two stairs below him. Even through all this, the thing he could think of was, her lips were the most beautiful when red.

"Hi, I'm Y/N," she let out a breathy chuckle. Clearly nervous. "You must've seen me occasionally. We take the same bus from home to uni and back."

He knew that. He knew that very well. But he couldn't open his mouth to speak. He just wanted to listen to her. She sounded divine.

Tucking a strand of errant hair behind her ear, she pressed her hands against her blushing, red cheeks. "God! This is nerve racking," she said, taking a deep breath and meeting his gaze head on. Determination clear in her eyes, she said, no, declared, "I like you."

The words he wanted to say but could never because of fear.

"I like you, Min Yoongi," she continued, finding her courage once again with every word she spoke. "I've been seeing you, following the same path as you for four years. I've liked you ever since the first annual function. I loved the way you so passionately played the piano, even though it wasn't really the main attraction of the performance.

I like how you always seem so cold on the outside but then smile so warmly at your friends. I've seen you helping the old lady living beside your house many times and it just made me fall harder for you. You might be wondering, why I'm confessing now. Why not a little early and not two months before graduation? But the truth is, I was scared. I was scared you'd reject a plain girl like me, always busy with my books and nothing. I was scared you wouldn't find me attractive or-"

"I like you, too," he said, interrupting her. He walked down the two steps, now closer to her than he ever had been.

Smiling shyly and with his cheeks just as red as hers, he took her warm hand in his, which fit perfectly in his.

"Let's go home together."

On the way home, he told her how he was scared himself about being rejected, about not being the best. And he told her, that his eyes always followed her, no matter what.

As they stood right outside the gate of her house, she told him that she went to sit on the auditorium stairs just to see him. Everyday.
