Quiet Tranquility

"Argh!!! Make it stop!!" Jungkook complained, clasping his hands over his ears. The girl's voice sounded like nails on a chalkboard. It was so bad, so why on earth were the people cheering her on. Jimin was even cheering for her. Jungkook refused to look in the stage's direction. Instead he flagged down the bartender for another beer.

"She sounds like a dying seal or something... ugh..."

Jimin smacked him on the back of the head.

"Lighten up... she's just having some fun. She's super cute even if she doesn't have the best singing voice." Jimin smiled at Jungkook.

Jungkook rolled his eyes, taking a swig of his beer only to choke on it when the girl screeched out a high note. Jimin patted him on the back trying to help him out while laughing.

Once he controlled his coughing fit, he tugged his shirt collar as he stood up.

"I'm leaving..." slamming a few bills on the bar top, he made his through the crowd. The crowd who apparently had gone deaf. That girl's voice was dreadful. Even for it just being a karaoke bar. There had to be some limitations to the level of awful that goes through there.

Once out in the cool night air, Jungkook breathed in the smells of the street vendors close by. The spicy sweet and sour scent made his mouth water.

"This smells so good... what is it?"

"Pineapple teriyaki chicken on a stick." Replied the man as he flipped over the meats on the small grill.

"Could I have two?"

"6.50."

Jungkook reached into his jean pocket, pulling out his wallet only to find he had spent his last twenty in the bar. Sighing heavily he put his wallet back. Thanked the vendor for his patience, turning to walk away.

Not only was the karaoke bar a total bust, now he couldn't even get some food to make his grumbling stomach happy.

"Wait! I'll get it for you." A girl called out, handing cash to the man. She then asked for a few more sticks of meat and bottled water. Jungkook stared in awe of the girl. Not only was she kind hearted but she was also easy on the eyes.

Her hair was stuck to her forehead from sweat that glistened on her chubby cheeks. Her pony tail falling out of the holder. She was a beautiful mess with light eyes, an oversized green sweater with a pair of black leggings and white slip on vans.

"What?" Jungkook asked, still looking at every inch of her.

"Here, take these." She handed him two of the meat sticks. Jungkook smiled at her, taking them. His mouth watering once more from their aroma. Taking a huge bite out of one, groaning.

"Sooo... good."

"Mmm..." she gave a small nod. After a few seconds of rocking from side to side on her shoes, she walked away. Jungkook hesitates then falls into step beside her.

"Thank you." He smiles over at her.

"No problem..."

"What's your name?"

"Y/N."

"What brings you out on a Saturday night?"

Y/N looked up at the starry night sky. All the city smog seemed to have washed away. Giving way to a breathtaking city skyline.

"Wanted a fun night out with friends."

Jungkook was confused. Fun night out with friends included said friends. She didn't appear to have any with her.

"Friends?"

She chuckled, " yea... they left me."

"That's terrible..."

"It's fine really. I enjoy the peace and quiet. They can get pretty dramatic."

Jungkook understood that. He felt his ears were still bleeding from the awful singing before. So he had left Jimin behind. Jimin was probably on stage now singing his little heart out, making all the single and married ladies swoon.

"Quiet tranquility is nice.."

Y/N hummed in response. They walked for a while not really heading in any direction in particular. Just sort of wandering like free spirits of the night.

"You know... I never got your name."

"It's Jungkook."

Strolling underneath the street lights towards a park bench, they both sat down beside each other in a comfortable silence. Jungkook relaxed into the cold hardwood.

"Beautiful night."

"It is..." Y/N sighed. Everything was cast in a dark blue blanket with subtle hints of their normal color in the daylight. The wind rustled the trees cooling down the summer air.

Jungkook's phone rang in his pocket, it was Jimin.

"Hey man?" He smiled over at Y/N. She smiled back at him tucking a stray hair behind her ear.

"Where'd you go? You should have heard the girl that came on after the one you said was so bad!"

"Dude, my ears were practically bleeding when that girl sang! I had to get out of there."

Y/N tilted her head, looking slightly upset.

"Well... she was only on a few more minutes after you left, and then she also left."

"Good! Maybe she realized how bad she was!" He laughed. Y/N made a clicking noise with her teeth, turned her head to the side wiping her eyes furiously.

"You okay?"

"I'm great" Jimin replied on the other end of the phone call.

"Not you..." hissed Jungkook. Y/N shook her head as she jumped up and ran away. Jungkook sat there confused. What had just happened. Then he thought about it.

"Hey Jimin..."

"Yea buddy?"

"Do you remember what the girl was wearing?"

He stared off in the direction Y/N had run. A bad feeling in his chest.

"Yea..."

Jimin always paid attention to what people wore. He could tell you everything right down to the tiny rings on their fingers, even the brand they wore. It was a unique gift he had.

"An oversized emerald green Armani sweater, with black leggings and a pair of white vans with a small gold ring on her thumb."

Jungkook rubbed his face in anguish.

"Shit..."

"Actually it was an adorable outfit. You should have seen it."

"I did..."

"What? How?"

"I met her outside the bar..."

"Oh... she's cute!"

"Yea and kind... she bought me some meat sticks."

"What happened after that?" Jimin asked. Jungkook walked slowly in the direction she fled. That couldn't have been her... could it? Perhaps she got a text from a friend needing help.

She never pulled out her phone. Jungkook smacked his forehead in frustration. How could he be so mean.

"Kookie?"

He had forgotten he was still on the phone.

"We walked together, shared a few words... and then she ran off."

"Ran off?... did you at least get her number?"

"Somehow... I don't think she would give it to me."

"Why do you say that? You can get any girl's number!"

Because I hurt her unintentionally.

"Don't worry about it."

"Oh... she's here. She looks upset."

"What?"

"Wow... what did you do?"

Jungkook broke out into a sprint. Somehow he had to make it right. He just had to.

"I'll be right there!" Hanging up his phone, He tucked it away into his pants pocket. When Jungkook got to the bar, he hunched over, inhaling deeply as he tried to catch his breath.

Sweat formed on his brow when he walked into the loud karaoke bar. He wasn't sure what he was going to say or do... but he had to fix it.

"You are fast! Weren't you just at the park!?" Jimin yelled at him, impressed. Jungkook shrugged, scanning the dancing bodies for the one girl he had despised and then fell for all in one night.

There she was being hugged by her friends. They were trying to hype her up. Telling her how wrong I was about her singing and that she should get up there and do it again. She kept shaking her head no. Even though he thought she sounded terrible. Jungkook would give anything to have her back up there singing happily like she had before.

"Fuck..."

Jimin stared at him with confusion written all over his face. Jungkook made his way to the stage. He knew of a song that might help. Or at least he hoped it would.

He talked to the guy running the machine and then stepped to center stage.

Before he started his song, he looked out into the crowd to find her. Y/N's red rimmed eyes stared up at him. They showed no anger, nor resentment. More like curiosity.

"Y/N..." Jungkook began. "I'm sorry I hurt you... You had this place vibing like none other. I hope that you can forgive me and then maybe if I'm lucky... we could sing a duet together."

A small hint of smile formed on her face just as the song queued. Make it right, started to play and Jungkook sang his heart out. He could see Y/N swaying along to the beat. Her friends watching him
with their arms folded.

When the song ended the whole bar erupted in cheers and applause. But his eyes were locked on her.

Y/N's face was down, she didn't look up. So he jumped down walking through the crowds towards her. Gently with his hand he lifted her chin to look at him. She had more tears streaming down her face.

"I'm sorry..."

"Your voice is so pretty..." she frowned, turning her head away.

"Uhh...I didn't do that to-"

"I know..."

"I just—"

"I know." She took his hand giving it a light squeeze.

"So you want to do a duet?" She wiggled her eyebrows playfully.

"Let's do it." He smiled happily.
