• A protective alpha •
Summary: Alpha Jungkook and omega Jimin had mated recently and they had always been together since then, even more than before. Alpha Jungkook has always been protective towards Jimin and even before their mating, but since Jimin officially became his, his protectiveness has increased so when after a concert their team introduced a new make-up artist he became possessive and also grew suspicious. The person declared he was a beta but his features and his eyes seemed to tell otherwise.
————————
The latest concert had been a triumph, the crowd's energy still buzzing in their veins as they made their way backstage. The only thing they wanted to do was going home because they wanted to rest but as they celebrated another successful performance, their manager approached with a new face.
"Everyone, this is Haneul, our new makeup artist," the manager announced. "He'll be joining us for the upcoming tour."
Haneul stepped forward, his features sharp and his eyes holding an intense gaze, and said "Hello, everyone. I'm a beta, and I'm excited to work with all of you."
Jungkook's instincts flared immediately. There was something off about Haneul. His scent was too controlled, too neutral, and his eyes held a power that seemed to contradict his claim of being a beta. The usual undertone of a beta's scent, subtle and calming, was absent. Instead, there was an unsettling lack of any defining aroma, as if he was masking his true scent.
But Jungkook seemed to be the only one who noticed that because Jimin smiled and extended his hand. "Nice to meet you, Haneul. I'm Jimin."
Jungkook quickly moved to Jimin's side, placing a possessive arm around his waist. The soothing, sweet scent of Jimin's vanilla and chamomile wrapped around him, calming his nerves slightly. "Jungkook," he said tersely, his eyes never leaving Haneul's.
Haneul's smile didn't falter. "I've heard a lot about you two. You make a great pair."
Jungkook's growl was barely audible but enough to let Haneul know that he wasn't welcome. His alpha growl was a low rumble that resonated through the room, sending a subtle but clear message of dominance and territoriality. Jungkook's grip tightened slightly on Jimin. "Thanks," he replied coolly. "We do."
The rest of the team greeted Haneul, but Jungkook couldn't shake his suspicion. Namjoon and Taehyung, the other alphas in the group, exchanged wary glances, sensing Jungkook's unease. Hoseok, even being a beta, sensed Jungkook's anxiety but didn't say anything and with Jin and Yoongi, he welcomed Haneul warmly, though Yoongi's sharp eyes didn't miss the way Jungkook's shoulders seemed tensed up.
As the evening wore on, he kept a close eye on the new makeup artist, his protective instincts on high alert. Haneul's scent, or rather the lack of it, gnawed at Jungkook's mind. He couldn't let his guard down, not when his omega's safety was at stake.
The next day, the team prepared for the next concert. Haneul was efficient, his skills as a makeup artist undeniable. But Jungkook's wariness only grew. He couldn't ignore the nagging feeling that Haneul was hiding something.
As Haneul worked on Jimin's makeup, Jungkook hovered nearby, his presence a constant reminder of his protectiveness. Namjoon and Taehyung, sensing Jungkook's uneasiness, decided to stay close but Haneul seemed unfazed, maintaining his professional demeanor.
"Jungkook, you don't have to watch over us like a hawk," Haneul said with a chuckle. "I promise, I'm just doing my job."
Jungkook's eyes narrowed. "I'm just looking out for my omega."
Haneul's eyes flickered with something unreadable before he smiled again. "And a fine job you're doing. Jimin's lucky to have you."
Jungkook's growl was more pronounced this time, a deep, rumbling sound that reverberated through the room. The growl wasn't just a warning; it was a clear display of his alpha nature and his unwillingness to back down. "You don't know the half of it."
Jimin glanced between the two, sensing the tension in the room, and he tried to make his sweet, soothing scent mingle with Jungkook's in a comforting mix.
After the concert, Jungkook couldn't shake his unease. He decided to confront Haneul directly, needing to know the truth. He found Haneul alone in the makeup room, packing up his supplies.
"Haneul," Jungkook began, closing the door behind him. "I need to know the truth. Are you really a beta?"
Haneul paused, then turned to face Jungkook. "Yes, why would I lie to you and your company?" Jungkook's eyes flashed with anger. "I don't believe you. And why are you here?"
Haneul sighed. "Listen Jungkook, I'm a beta and I took this job because I love being a make-up artist. I'm not here to cause any harm, Jungkook. I swear."
Jungkook's growl was a low, menacing sound, a physical manifestation of his protective instinct, while he kept staring at Haneul and then said "I don't know if I can trust you. I need to be sure."
Haneul then sighed and answered. "Believe me when I say I mean no harm. I respect your bond with Jimin."
Jungkook studied Haneul, searching for any sign of deceit. Finally, he nodded, though his guard remained up. "Fine. But know this, Haneul. If you try anything, if you hurt Jimin in any way, you'll have to answer to me."
Haneul met Jungkook's gaze steadily. "I understand, and I promise you, I won't."
Despite the uneasy truce, Jungkook's vigilance didn't wane. He couldn't afford to let his guard down, especially not with an unknown alpha so close to his mate. As the tour continued, Jungkook's protective nature intensified.
One evening, after a particularly exhausting concert, Jimin felt unwell. His head throbbed, and he felt unusually weak. Jungkook noticed immediately and was by his side in an instant.
"Jimin, what's wrong?" Jungkook asked, his voice laced with concern, a soft, comforting growl vibrating in his chest.
"I don't know, Kookie. I just feel really dizzy," Jimin replied, leaning into Jungkook for support, his sweet scent weak and faint.
Jungkook's heart pounded with fear. He helped Jimin to their room and laid him down gently on the bed. "I'm going to get help," he said, his voice shaking slightly, a growl of frustration rumbling in his throat.
As he turned to leave, Jimin grabbed his hand. "Don't go, Kookie. Stay with me."
Jungkook nodded, sitting beside Jimin and holding his hand tightly. He texted their manager to get a doctor, his mind racing with worry.
When the doctor arrived, Jungkook watched anxiously as he examined Jimin. "He's just exhausted," the doctor concluded. "He needs rest and plenty of fluids."
Jungkook felt a wave of relief but also a renewed determination to protect Jimin. As Jimin slept, Jungkook stayed by his side, his thoughts returning to Haneul. Could he have something to do with this?
The next day, Jimin's condition showed little improvement. He remained weak and dizzy, his energy levels low. Jungkook's worry grew as he continued to keep a close watch on him.
Days passed, and Jungkook's vigilance never wavered. He kept a close watch on Haneul, his protective instincts heightened. Jimin gradually recovered, but the memory of his sudden illness lingered in Jungkook's mind.
One evening, as Jungkook was helping Jimin get ready for bed, Jimin looked up at him, his eyes filled with love and trust. "Kookie, you don't have to worry so much. I'm feeling much better now."
Jungkook kissed Jimin's forehead gently, his alpha scent wrapping around Jimin like a protective shield. "I know, baby, but I can't help it. I just want to keep you safe."
Jimin smiled, leaning into Jungkook's embrace. "You always do, Kookie. And I love you for it."
As they settled into bed, Jungkook's mind raced. He couldn't let his guard down, not when there was still a potential threat. He needed to find out the truth about Haneul once and for all.
The next day, Jungkook approached their manager. "I need to talk to you about Haneul," he said, his tone serious, his growl a low rumble of frustration and urgency.
The manager looked surprised. "What about him?"
"I don't trust him. He says he's a beta, but I think he's hiding something. I need to know more about him."
The manager seemed to not believe him and said "Don't you think you're being a little paranoid about Haneul?"
Jungkook's eyes widened in disbelief and anger. "Paranoid? Jimin is sick because of him! I can feel it in my gut."
The manager shook his head. "We don't have concrete evidence yet. Jumping to conclusions isn't going to help."
Fury flared in Jungkook's chest, his growl echoing through the room. "I'm not jumping to conclusions. I'm trying to protect my omega! I know something's off. You're supposed to protect us, not dismiss our concerns!"
The manager sighed, realizing that Jungkook was serious. "Okay, I'll look into it. But we need more than just your suspicions."
The manager's eyes softened slightly, but his stance remained firm. "I'm looking into it, Jungkook. But until we have proof, we need to be rational about this."
Jungkook clenched his fists, his jaw tightening. Without another word, he turned on his heel and stormed out, heading straight for the dorm. He needed to be with Jimin, away from the doubters.
Back at the dorm, the atmosphere was heavy with unease. Namjoon and Taehyung, sensing Jungkook's distress, immediately gathered around him. Jin, Yoongi, and Hoseok joined in, their expressions filled with concern.
"What happened?" Namjoon asked, his alpha instincts kicking in.
"The manager thinks I'm paranoid," Jungkook spat out, pacing the room. "He doesn't believe that Haneul is responsible."
Taehyung's eyes narrowed. "At first we didn't think about that but we all felt something was off with Haneul during these days. You're not alone in this, Jungkook."
Jin, the eldest omega, placed a comforting hand on Jungkook's shoulder. "We'll get to the bottom of this, together. But right now, we need to focus on Jimin."
At the mention of his name, Jimin stirred from his bed. He tried to sit up but immediately felt dizzy, his vision blurring. "Kookie... what's going on?"
Jungkook rushed to Jimin's side, his alpha instincts flaring. The room filled with the sharp, protective scent of cedar and musk as his worry replaced his earlier anger. "Nothing you need to worry about, Jimin. Just rest."
Jimin's eyes welled up with tears. The air around him was heavy with his own faint chamomile and vanilla scent mixed with a note of withered flowers, a sign of his distress. "I can feel the tension, Jungkook. It's making me anxious."
Yoongi, another omega, joined them, his presence soothing with a calming blend of lavender. "We're just worried about you, Jimin. That's all," he said softly, his eyes reflecting concern.
Despite their reassurances, the stress and tension in the room were palpable. Jimin's tears flowed freely now, his emotional state exacerbating his physical weakness. Jungkook's protective instincts roared to life, his eyes shifting to a fierce gold as his wolf began to show itself. He wrapped his arms around Jimin, his scent becoming more pronounced, enveloping Jimin in a warm, cedar embrace.
"I'm sorry, Jimin. I didn't mean to make you worry," Jungkook whispered, his voice trembling as he tried to ease his mate's distress. His wolf growled lowly, a soft rumble of comfort, which Jimin's omega seemed to appreciate.
Jimin's body shivered slightly, and Jungkook could feel the heat radiating from his skin. "You're burning up," he said, his voice tight with concern. His eyes glowed with a mix of gold and amber. "We need to get you some help."
Jungkook gently helped Jimin lie back down and then he wiped away Jimin's tears, trying to soothe him. Jimin's omega instincts were in full force, seeking comfort and safety. His own eyes, now a soft blue, mirrored his need for reassurance.
"Please, don't cry. I'm here. I won't let anything happen to you," Jungkook promised, his voice shaking with emotion. The intensity of his scent, combined with his wolf's presence, was meant to anchor Jimin.
Hoseok quickly fetched a cold compress, his own calming peppermint and eucalyptus scent mixing with the room's growing tension. He placed it gently on Jimin's forehead and he said softly "This should help with the fever," and offered a reassuring smile.
Namjoon and Taehyung exchanged worried glances, their scents mingling in the air and Namjoon's alpha scent, a deep oak and leather, added to the room's air, trying to provide a comfortable atmosphere. "We need to find out what's really going on with Haneul," Namjoon said, his voice firm. "But right now, our priority is Jimin."
Then Taehyung showed his agreement with Namjoon by saying "We need to stay focused. Jimin needs us to be strong."
Jin nodded, his own omega scent, a gentle rose, providing a comforting backdrop to their collective efforts. His face was set with determination. "We'll keep him safe, no matter what. We'll all take turns watching over him."
Yoongi, ever the voice of reason, his lavender scent lingering, added, "And we need to keep ourselves together. Jimin needs us to be strong. Let's not let our fears cloud our judgment."
Jungkook looked around at the concerned faces, the collective scents and presence of his pack creating a cocoon of safety around Jimin. He turned his attention back to his mate, his eyes still glowing softly. "We're here for you, Jimin. We'll figure this out."
Jimin's voice was a whisper, barely audible through his tears. "Thank you, everyone. I don't know what I'd do without you."
As the fever slowly began to subside, Jimin's breathing evened out, and he finally drifted into a restless sleep. Jungkook stayed by his side, his protective instincts in overdrive.
"We'll figure this out," Taehyung said firmly. "We're in this together."
Jungkook nodded, his resolve hardening. "We won't let anything tear us apart. Not Haneul, not anyone."
A few days later, the manager called Jungkook into his office. "Hi Jungkook, even if I thought you were a little paranoid about Haneul, I couldn't stop thinking about what you said, so I've done some digging," he said. "It turns out Haneul isn't who he says he is. He's an alpha, not a beta."
Jungkook's eyes widened, a flash of anger mingling with a surge of protectiveness. "I knew it. Why would he lie about that?"
The manager sighed, rubbing his temples. "He said he didn't want to cause any issues with the team dynamics. But I understand your concern. We'll handle it."
Jungkook nodded, his alpha instincts flaring with a fierce protective edge. His scent, a strong cedar with hints of musk, became more pronounced as he prepared to confront Haneul. "I need to talk to him. I have to ensure Jimin's safety."
He found Haneul in the makeup room, packing up his supplies. The air was thick with the artificial scent blockers Haneul used to mask his true nature. Jungkook's scent, sharp and assertive, clashed with the sterile, scent-free environment.
"Haneul, we need to talk," Jungkook said, his voice cold and commanding, his eyes flashing with a golden hue.
Haneul looked up, his expression wary and his scent blockers momentarily faltering under the intensity of Jungkook's presence. "What is it, Jungkook?"
"I know the truth. You're an alpha, not a beta. Why did you lie?" Jungkook's voice was edged with anger and accusation, his protective instincts surging.
Haneul's shoulders slumped as his scent blockers failed, his natural alpha scent—a sharp, intimidating mix of pine and leather—beginning to seep through. "I didn't want to cause any problems. I respect you and Jimin's bond, and I didn't want to be seen as a threat."
Jungkook's eyes narrowed, the golden hue of his wolf's eyes intensifying. "You already are a threat by lying. I can't trust you, Haneul. Jimin got really sick last night. The doctor said he's just exhausted, but I can't help but wonder if you had something to do with it. You need to leave."
Haneul's eyes widened with shock, but his scent—a mix of fear and defiance—grew stronger. "What? No, Jungkook, I would never harm Jimin. I swear on my life."
Jungkook's gaze was steely, his alpha instincts not backing down. "I don't trust you, Haneul. You need to stay away from Jimin."
Haneul's scent grew more pronounced, the once-masked aroma of a predatory alpha now fully revealed. "I understand. I'll keep my distance. But please believe me, Jungkook, I'm not your enemy."
Jungkook's jaw tightened. "We'll see about that."
As Jungkook turned to leave, Haneul stepped forward, his voice rising with frustration. "You don't have any proof. You're just being paranoid."
Jungkook's anger flared, his protective instincts taking over. "Don't test me, Haneul."
The two men faced off, the tension in the room palpable and Haneul's scent of anger and defiance clashed with Jungkook's intense cedar and musk. The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation as their instincts drove them into a fierce fight.
The commotion drew the attention of the rest of the team. Namjoon and Taehyung burst into the room and then "Enough!" Namjoon's commanding voice cut through the chaos. His presence was a powerful mix of authority and concern. "What the hell is going on?"
Jungkook, breathing heavily, pointed at Haneul, his own scent now a mix of anger and protectiveness. "He lied about being a beta. He's an alpha, and I think he's the reason Jimin got sick."
Haneul, equally breathless, glared at Jungkook, his alpha scent now fully exposed. "I told you, I had nothing to do with it!"
Namjoon's gaze shifted to Haneul, his alpha instincts kicking in. "We'll get to the bottom of this, but fighting isn't going to solve anything."
Taehyung nodded as he held Haneul's arm firmly. "Let's figure this out calmly."
Just as the situation was about to de-escalate, a sudden, unsettling noise caught everyone's attention. Jimin, who had been lying in bed in their shared room, suddenly fainted. His body went limp, and he fell off the bed with a thud.
"Jimin!" Jungkook's heart raced as he rushed to Jimin's side. His protective scent of cedar grew more intense as he knelt beside Jimin, his hands trembling as he checked his pulse. "Jimin, please wake up!"
The doctor, who had been alerted by the commotion, rushed in with a sharp, clinical scent. "We need to get him stabilized," the doctor said urgently, examining Jimin with practiced efficiency. "He's suffering from severe dehydration and exhaustion. We need to get him rehydrated immediately."
Jungkook's fear and frustration boiled over as he watched the doctor work. His protective instincts surged, and he glared at Haneul, whose scent now clearly indicated his true alpha nature.
"This is your fault, Haneul!" Jungkook shouted, his voice filled with raw anger. "You did this to him!"
Haneul answered, his alpha scent now a potent mix of frustration and desperation. "I didn't do anything, you have no proof."
Jungkook's heart ached as he looked back at Jimin, his omega's pale face etched with pain. "I should have kept you away from him," Jungkook said bitterly. "I should have done more."
The team rallied around, their concern for Jimin evident in their scents and expressions. Jin and Yoongi, stood close by, their worried scents of rose and lavender mingling in the air.
As Jimin was carefully lifted onto a stretcher and taken to the medical area, Jungkook followed closely, his heart heavy with worry. The confrontation with Haneul had only added to his anxiety, and he couldn't shake the feeling that something more was at play.
The next day, Jimin remained in the medical area, receiving treatment and rehydration. Jungkook stayed by his side, his protective instincts never faltering. The team had been given updates on Jimin's condition, and everyone was doing their best to support him.
Jungkook approached their manager, his expression serious and his scent still tinged with anger and concern. "I need to know what's happening with Haneul. What's the latest on the investigation?"
The manager sighed and rubbing his temples he answered "We've gathered more evidence. It turns out Haneul was tampering with Jimin's makeup. He was using a substance that caused his symptoms."
Jungkook's eyes widened with anger, the scent of cedar and musk intensifying. "I knew it. Why would he do that?"
The manager shook his head, his expression troubled. "We're still trying to piece together his motive. He claimed he wanted to understand alpha-omega dynamics better, but clearly, there was more to it. He's been detained for further questioning."
Jungkook nodded, his resolve solidifying. "We need to make sure Jimin is safe and recovers fully. I won't let this happen again."
As the days passed, Jimin's condition improved slowly. He was still weak but recovering with each passing day. Jungkook remained by his side, his protective instincts never faltering. The team rallied around, offering support and encouragement.
The investigation into Haneul continued, and eventually, more details emerged. It was revealed that Haneul had been hired by a rival company to gather information on the team and disrupt their tour. His actions had been driven by ulterior motives, and his tampering with Jimin's makeup was part of his sabotage plan.
With Haneul's true intentions exposed, the team felt a sense of relief and vindication. They could now focus on supporting Jimin and ensuring his full recovery.
One night, while they were in the bed, hugging and relaxing, Jungkook said in Jimin's ear in a soothing voice "I'm glad you're okay, Jimin. I'll always protect you, no matter what."
