Hannah cringed slightly as she stood beside Ian and Mandy, watching her eldest brother getting repeatedly punched in the face by his opponent who was ten times bigger and better than him.
"Get your guard up, Lip!" Ian yelled at him.
"Kick him back, you idiot!" Hannah cried out as Lip was punched back into his two siblings, who caught him.
"Listen to Hannah," Ian said, "You're punching like a fag. Come on."
Lip nodded as he was thrown back into the fight, only to be thrown onto the ground and beaten up once again.
The metal bell clanged.
"First round. Go to your corners," The ref ended the round, "Let's place some bets."
"Oh, hey, Mandy." Lip tiredly greeted the girl, who he had just noticed was there.
"You know you're supposed to hit him?" Ian said.
"Like with your fist." Hannah added.
"That kid hits hard." Lip panted.
Mandy rolled her eyes, "What did you think this was?"
"Well, I didn't think he could punch me with his foot." Lip said as Ian held a wet rag against his head.
"Yeah, it's called a kick, you need to learn how to land one, or else you'll become a rug for this floor." Hannah sighed.
"He kicked the top of my goddamn head." Lip exclaimed.
"Look at me," Ian wrapped his arm around his brother's shoulder, "You wanna throw in the towel?"
The bell clanged once again.
"I would if I was smart." Lip quirked a smile, re-entering the fight and being met with another punch to the face.
―
Hannah and Mandy linked arms as the four of them left the warehouse, Lip handing some money to the janitor who helped get them in.
"How the hell did that little guy kick Kurt fucking Landis' ass?" The Milkovich girl asked.
"I may have slipped something into Landis' water," Hannah shrugged with a smirk, Mandy laughing, "What? Needed to win my money back somehow," She turned to Lip, "Never betting on you ever again, by the way, don't give a shit how much blood we share."
"Yeah, well most of that blood did land on the floor." Mandy commented, the two girls chuckling.
"We make anything on my fight?" Lip asked with a cigarette in his mouth, turning back to the janitor, "Thanks man!"
Ian shook his head, "Nobody wanted the odds."
"Should've gone with them." Hannah said.
"What'd you put down?" Lip asked his brother.
"What, on the fight you lost?" Ian asked with a chuckle, "Nada. Fraternal loyalty doesn't extend to stupidity, bud."
Hannah and Mandy shared an eye roll as the two boys fake sparred for a moment, before continuing to walk with smiles on their faces.
Lip turned to Mandy, "So Mickey's out soon, yeah?"
"In about a week or so, if he doesn't stab anybody else," The comment earned a confused look from Lip and a bark of laughter from Hannah, "Plastic fork, barely broke the kid's skin, but it bought him thirty days."
"You gotta be looking forward to having Mickey home again, huh?" Lip asked, his question aimed at his brother, Hannah smirking slightly.
"I guess." Mandy shrugged as the four came to a stop at the end of the roads.
"Hey, I wanna stage another fight night next week," Lip told his siblings, giving each of them a share of the the nights' earnings, "Go around to the dojos, round up some more scrappers."
"Sure," Ian nodded, Hannah doing the same as Lip started to walk the opposite direction to their house, "Where you going?"
"Karen's." Lip replied as he walked away.
Hannah rolled her eyes, "You have got to be kidding me."
"Thought you gave up on that." Ian called after him.
Lip turned back to them with a shrug, "See you."
Ian and Hannah only hummed, sharing a look as they and Mandy turned and started to walk back to the Gallagher house.
"Karen Jackson?" Mandy raised an eyebrow, "After that thing with your dad?"
"I'm sneaking antibiotics into his toothpaste, just in case." Ian said.
"Come on," Hannah said, taking Mandy's hand and starting to drag her back home, "We have vodka and weed."
―
"Good morning," Debbie tiredly greeted Lip and Fiona as she and Hannah came downstairs, the latter with Liam in her arms, "We're out of mac and cheese. I can make PB&Js instead, but I'm gonna need more bread." The youngest sister informed Fiona.
Hannah let out a yawn as she put Liam in his playpen, "I'll pick some up for you later, Debs."
"How many signed up for today?" Fiona asked her.
"Nine. Romano twins. Cami. Mangis. That Ulin kid with the big head." Debbie listed off as she poured herself a cup of coffee.
"Whoa, half a cup." Fiona stopped her from pouring anymore.
"Exhausted," Debbie groaned as Lip handed Hannah her own cup of coffee, which she took with a tired smile, "Liam had us up half the night banging his head. I need my own room."
Hannah choked on her coffee as she let out a laugh, "Like we're able to do that, Debs."
"And I want a pony for Christmas." Fiona rolled her eyes.
"He's a boy," Debbie continued, "He should be with the boys."
Lip shook his head, "No way, there's three of us in that room."
"I'm a girl," Debbie glared at him, "I'm gonna be a woman soon. I need privacy to undergo the upcoming traumatic transformation." She said as Ian and Carl made their way downstairs.
"Yet I had to go through mine whilst sharing a bed with you." Hannah rolled her eyes.
"It's not that traumatic." Lip chuckled as he and Hannah walked past Debbie, each grabbing themselves a handle of dry cereal.
Fiona shot him a look, "How would you know?"
"Video in 5th grade."
"What we talking about?" Ian wondered.
"Moving Liam into our room." Lip told him.
"No fucking way."
Hannah and Lip chuckled at their redheaded brother's reaction, making their way out the back door and making their way round to the back of Kev and Veronica's house.
"So, traumatic transformation, huh?" Lip looked down at Hannah with a smirk as they walked.
The girl rolled her eyes, taking a sip of her coffee, "You should see under our bed. It's like she's prepared for the zombie apocalypse, but instead of canned goods, she's storing pads and tampons.
"Jeez," Lip muttered as they entered through the back of Kevin and Veronica's garden, seeing Ethel tending to her plants, "Wow. Ethel, the garden looks great." Lip greeted her.
"It's all in the compost. My red worms have been working overtime this year. None of God's bounty ever needs go to waste." Ethel smiled up at them as she worked.
"Yeah, go God." Hannah nodded before they walked over to Kevin - who was sat basking in the sun.
"We still on for today?" Lip asked the man, who nodded, holding his pack of cigarettes out to them, the pair each taking one.
"Think it still runs?" Hannah wondered.
"Probably not," Kevin shrugged as Lip lit both of the cigarettes, "But between the two of you, you can fix anything."
"Yep," Lip hummed as they looked out at the garden, "Hey, what are those huge, round, green things in the back?" He asked.
"Tomatoes." Kevin told him.
"Oh." Hannah muttered.
"She's a keeper." Lip said.
"Mm." Kevin hummed as Ethel smiled over at them.
Hannah took a drag of her cigarette, cocking her head to the side, "Have I been spending too much time with her, or do I actually just want one of those bonnets?"
―
Hannah's eyes squinted as the sun beat down on her, Lip and Kevin as the two boys threw the old tarp off of the ice cream truck, revealing the old, dusty vehicle.
"What?!" Kevin grinned at the sight of their truck, Hannah letting out a low whistle as she stood by the door, hands on her hips.
"Hey, Kev, still reeks from last year when you hit that right turn to hard and the stash went everywhere." Hannah chuckled, sticking her head into the truck.
"Yeah, our vacuum could only do so much."
"You try starting this since last summer?" Lip asked the man.
"No." Kevin shook his head.
"How's the crop coming?" Lip asked, popping open the hood.
"It's almost harvest time," Kev told him, "But I'm a bit worried, though. There seems like there's more cops in the park."
"Yeah, I'm working on it." Lip told him.
Hannah grinned, bending down and picking up two crowbars from the ground, chucking one to Kevin.
"Awesome," Kev smiled, catching it, "We'll go chase the rats out of the coolers," He told Lip, before he and Hannah clambered onto the truck, "Hey, guys." The man grinned.
"Vacation's over little guys." Hannah sang, before she and Kevin brought down their crowbars.
―
A few hours later, Lip and Hannah were sharing celebratory smiles after they had managed to start up the rickety old truck, when Kev walked up to them, arms crossed as they looked at the vehicle.
"We have a problem," The man said, "We may need to sell some pot."
Lip and Hannah both raised an eyebrow, Lip asking, "Isn't that what we always do?"
"A lot of pot." Kevin clarified.
―
"So Ethel's been helping out," Kevin told the two siblings as he lead them down to the basement of the Alibi, unlocking doors as he went, "You know how she told you about that kick-ass worm shit she's been using on her tomatoes?"
Lip and Hannah shared a confused look, "Yeah."
"It works so good, we decided to use it on this year's crop. You know how I usually grow a couple plants to get us through the summer?" Kevin asked the pair, who both nodded.
Kevin let out a small sigh before pushing the last door to the basement open, revealing a basement full of weed plants.
"Holy shit." Lip exclaimed.
"Fuck." Hannah muttered.
"Exactly." Kevin nodded.
"Wait, so, what's the problem?" Lip asked as he and Hannah looked around at the plants.
"I forgot about the electric bill," Kevin frowned, "We need nine grand or they're gonna shut the power off to the building."
Hannah jumped as Ethel came out from behind a row of plants, "Isn't it wonderful?" She asked with a smile, "Mr. Kevin is gonna help all the old people who are going blind."
The Gallagher siblings looked over at their neighbour with raised eyebrows.
Hannah nodded, "Oh so wonderful, Ethel."
―
"So how much you think you've got down here?" Hannah asked Kevin as the three of them were looking around the basement at the plants.
"I don't know," Kevin shrugged, "Couple hundred pounds or so. Gonna start drying what I can but that won't fetch more than a couple grand or so."
"We could unload some of the plants." Lip suggested.
"Yeah, how many would we have to sell?" Kevin hummed.
"Five maybe." Lip shrugged.
Hannah shook her head, arms crossed, "Six." She corrected.
Kevin raised an eyebrow, "Guys, who the hell around here has two grand for a plant?"
"I may know a guy." Lip said.
"V's gonna kill me," Kevin groaned, "She's gonna fucking kill me. I promised her I wouldn't sell more than three or four this year. Normally I throw a bunch of seeds around, see which looks best, thin out the rest. But this year, I couldn't. They're all so beautiful. I just... I just couldn't do it." Kevin shook his head, lovingly caressing a plant.
Hannah raised an eyebrow, "You want us to leave you two alone, or?"
―
"It was so amazing, Han," Elodie gushed as the pair were unpacking her light pink suitcase, "That view from the Eiffel Tower? Amazing!"
"Sounds great." Hannah smiled.
"You're definitely coming with us next time." Elodie told her.
Hannah let out a snort, "Like I could afford that."
"We've told you, you don-"
"Yes I do, Ellie," Hannah stopped her best friend from continuing her sentence, "You know I do."
"So am I supposed to pretend like you've not been here for half an hour and not said hello to me yet?" Adam asked as he entered his sister's room, cocking his head to the side.
Hannah chuckled, smiling softly at the boy, "Hi, Adam."
"Are you staying for lunch?" Elodie wondered.
"Afraid I can't," Hannah shook her head, standing up from Elodie's bed and shrugging her green backpack over her shoulders, "I've got to go sell weed to minors."
"You're doing the lord's work, Han." Adam nodded.
Hannah gave them a small salute, "I know."
"See you at the diner tonight, then." Elodie said.
"Still can't believe your mom bought the diner." Hannah chuckled, shaking her head as she left the room.
Elodie shrugged, "She got bored!" She called after her.
―
"Hey, maybe we can talk the electric company into taking a down payment, a payment-plan kind of deal." Lip suggested as Kevin parked the truck in the park.
"Oh, watch. Customers." Hannah said from where she was sat cross-legged on the cooler.
"What's going on?" Lip stood up and greeted the kid at the front of the line.
"Can I get... Watermelon Bob-Pop, Bubble-gum snow cone and a Chocolate Crunch," The kid asked, Hannah grabbing what he asked for, "You still selling loosies?"
"Yeah, Marlboro Lights. Buck apiece." Lip nodded, taking the kid's money as Hannah handed him his items.
"What can I get you, Champ?" Kevin asked the next kid.
"Lemon-lime Shot... ...Chocolate Chip Cookie Bar, Molson's-"
"Molson's?" Kevin scoffed, "We sell American beer here to children of age. Come back for a Bud Light when you're 16."
"Two frozen Snickers, a bag of Beer Nuts and a couple of joints." A kid who's height barely reached the bottom of the window requested.
"You 14? Got ID?" Lip asked the kid.
Leaning over the counter, Hannah raised an eyebrow, "What's your birthday?"
"June 3rd, 1997."
The siblings shared a look.
"Works for me." Hannah nodded, Lip giving him what he wanted.
"Taking little league book like last year?" One of their regulars asked, next in line.
Lip nodded, "What do you want?"
"Marlins."
"U10 or U12?" Lip asked, getting out his pocket book.
"U10 for 15."
"You're not worried about Ratkovich?" Lip raised an eyebrow, "Kid 72 threw pitches yesterday."
"No, he's Dominican." The man shook his head.
"Right."
"Well if it isn't my favourite Summer business." Theo grinned, walking over to the truck, a two-year-old in his arms.
"If it isn't my favourite esteemed teacher," Hannah greeted her English teacher with a smirk, grabbing his usual from around the truck, "Setting a good example for Carter Jr?" She asked, gesturing to the small girl, who waved happily at Hannah, the redhead smiling and waving back.
"Only the best from me," Theo nodded, chucking some cash onto the counter as Hannah gave him his snacks, beer and joints, "Keep the change."
"Awesome," Hannah nodded, before looking at the small girl, "And I'll see you tomorrow night."
"Rate still the same?" Theo asked.
"Only the best from me." Hannah told him with a smirk as the man began to walk away.
"Bye Hannah!"
"Bye, Tilly!" Hannah waved back at the little girl, before turning back to Lip and Kevin.
"Hey, Lip, anything on this radar?" The man asked.
Lip moved to the front of the truck to check, "Nope, closest unit is a foot patrol over by the play structure."
"Great force we have." Hannah nodded.
"Sorry I'm late," A voice said, Karen suddenly getting on the truck, making Kevin and Hannah share a confused and annoyed look, "Slept through my alarm."
"Yeah, I came by last night, waited for a while." Lip told her.
"Well, I didn't get in until 4 a. m." Karen said.
"New guy?" Lip asked as Hannah sat in the passenger's seat next to Kevin, the pair sharing an eye roll as the man handed her a lollipop, which she gladly took.
"Jody." Karen nodded with a smile.
Kevin glanced over at Hannah, mouthing the name, Hannah only shrugging with a disgruntled look on her face.
"He's nice. I don't know, we got to talking about music yesterday. He showed me a bunch of bands I've never heard of. My favourite was called Guns N' Roses." The blonde girl grinned.
Hannah almost choked on her sucker, "You've never heard of Guns N' Roses?!"
"Guns N' Roses?" Kevin repeated, "How old is Jody?"
"Thirty-seven, I think." Karen shrugged, Hannah and Kevin both letting out laughs as they looked at each other, wide-eyed.
"You know, he laid out a blanket in the park and we listened to his iPod and fell asleep in each others' arms." Karen reminisced, making Hannah glance over at her, a small frown on her features.
"Wow," Lip nodded sarcastically, "Sex any good?"
Karen let out a small laugh, "No sex. It's a part of this whole Sex Addicts Anonymous thing."
Lip nodded, "Right, but you're a teenager. I mean, all teenagers are sex addicts."
"Yeah, but I've been having sex since I was eleven," Karen chuckled, Kevin looking over at Hannah with raised eyebrows, "Jody and I don't want the physical to complicate things for us."
"Yeah, but we can still get complicated, right?" Lip asked hopefully.
"Desperate." Hannah whispered under her breath.
"Sure, I guess." Karen shrugged.
Suddenly, Lip's machine started beeping, "Oh, shit," Lip checked the machine, "Foot patrol, 9 o'clock, two hundred yards and closing." He said, Hannah scooting up so they could share the seat as Kevin started to drive off.
"Nah uh," Hannah shook her head as Karen tried to also sit on the passenger's seat, "You sit on the cooler, you musical degenerate."
Karen only rolled her eyes, complying as Lip turned to look at her with a raised eyebrow, "You never heard of Guns N' Roses? 'Welcome to the Jungle'?"
"Not even 'Sweet Child O' Mine'?" Hannah asked, earning a shrug, the redhead turning to her brother, "You so disappoint me with your taste in women."
―
Earlier that day, Frank had taken Liam out, only to have lost him to a bet.
So now, the Gallagher siblings storming through an apartment complex with Karen, Frank in tow. Fiona took the lead, with Hannah, Lip and Ian right behind her, the younger redhead clutching her baseball bat with nails poking out of it.
"This one?" Fiona asked Frank as they stopped in front of a door, their father nodding.
Fiona knocked on the door, gaining no answer, making slam her hands against it, the door swinging open and a shotgun being pointed in Fiona's face.
"Who the fuck are you?" The man with gun asked in a deep voice.
Fiona put her hands up, "We want Liam back."
"Liam stays," The man said, "He's collateral."
"Then you better start shooting." Fiona told him, pushing his gun aside, the Gallaghers and Karen entering the apartment, Frank crawling in behind them, as they fished into their pockets, chucking whatever cash they had on them onto the pizza box on the table.
"How much is that?" The man asked.
"Don't know, but we're good for it," Fiona told him, "Gallaghers pay their debts. Now, where the hell is our brother?"
The man only glared at them, making Hannah sighed, swinging her bat around and taking a step forwards.
"Look, there's two ways we could do this. You can give us Liam back now and unharmed. Or," She raised her weapon, "I slam this bat into your micro penis, you fucking douchebag."
―
Hannah smirked at the looks on Adam and Elodie's face as they stood in the basement of The Alibi, cutting and breaking apart Kev's extra weed plants, along with Kevin, Fiona, Lip, Carl, Debbie and Veronica.
"You never spent this long around weed before?" Hannah asked.
"Never been around weed." Adam said.
"Uh, Adam." Elodie nodded over at Hannah, who had a sheepish look on her face.
"That's why this smell is familiar." The boy realised.
"We handed over all the cash we made so far this summer," Fiona ranted, telling Veronica, Kevin and the twins about their night before, "We still owe six grand. That's money we count on to get through the winter."
"I can always go back with the spikey bat." Hannah raised her hand.
"What was it, some kind of bet?" Veronica asked.
"Oh, ten grand. You believe that?" Fiona scoffed.
"With your dad?" Elodie raised an eyebrow, "Absolutely."
"We'll be lucky to bank enough to get us to Christmas." Fiona shook her head with a frown.
"Hey, V? Can we at least save some for the ice cream truck, keep it stocked all summer?" Lip asked the woman as he walked past with an armful of marijuana.
Veronica sighed, "How much is that?"
Lip glanced over at Hannah, who shrugged, saying, "One bag should do it."
"Alright. But less than an ounce on the truck at one time." Veronica pointed at the two of them with her hedge trimmers.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah." The siblings nodded as Fiona turned to her best friend with puppy dog eyes and a pleading face.
"Sure, take a bag. It's the least we can do to thank you for your hard work," Veronica smiled at her, Kevin then poking his head through the weed, "No, no, not you, Johnny Appleseed," She then turned her head to look at the twins, "You two wanna take any home with you?"
"No thanks, our parents might just kill us." Elodie shook her head.
Adam nodded in agreement, "Yeah, I want to live until I'm eighteen."
Hannah shrugged with a small smirk, "Your loss."
That night, the Southside spent the night partying around a bonfire of Kevin's plants, relishing in what was their summertime.
