. Hikaru isn't exactly a very kind person. He says a lot of things that he doesn't necessarily mean, and he puts up walls around his heart, not allowing anything to easily penetrate the walls. He doesn't trust people, and because of his upbringing, no one can really blame him.

. He's a pretty tough kid, though. He's been through a lot, which is clear when you see how he acts. If he doesn't trust someone, he'll remain silent around a person for a long while before he does speak. And he refuses to relax around people he doesn't know, seeming to always be on the defensive.

. Deep down he is afraid, he just covers up his fear with aggression. He's been taught that fear is a weakness that should never be admitted or displayed, especially in front of strangers.

. He doesn't like the unexpected, which is part of the reason he was such a grouch when he was first found and taken to a hospital. He was expecting to be dead, not to be taken to a hospital and treated. He couldn't imagine a normal life or being a hero or just doing nothing, he could only imagine being a villain. So he wasn't even sure how to respond to the new situation, which made him pretty grouchy.

. He can be pretty insensitive to others at times, and he's rude and defensive, and he's always alert. But once he starts to warm up to someone, he becomes much more kind, does better at trying to be sensitive to others, and he's less defensive. Unless of course he knows he's doing something wrong— everyone gets defensive when they know they're doing something wrong.

. Hikaru is used to being high on drugs. So that is part of the reason he's such a grouch at the hospital— he's going through a detoxification process while there and experiencing intense cravings that are driving him insane.

. On drugs, Hikaru acts in many different ways depending on the drug. One of the ones he's hooked to calms him and relaxes him, as well as makes him giggly for little to no reason. It makes him feel happy and euphoric, which is why he loves it. Plus it helps him forget things. But, once it wears off, he gets really depressed.

. Because he has a form of bipolar disorder, his personality can be one extreme or the other, too. He can be very depressed and/or very angry, or he can be very happy and silly. He can go from wanting to just sleep all day to working non stop. It could make him save and save and save money, or blow it all on something he probably doesn't even need.

. After he gets through his issues, he's much different in personality. He's much more kind and does his best— sometimes— to behave politely. Especially since if he misbehaves he could get in trouble. He only ever misbehaves when he wants to get in trouble. Believe it or not, he sometimes does. Especially if he's super bored with daily life.
