Chapter 6

"MORNING, ROXY." AIDEN says flashing his million dollar smile at me.

Oh God.

I look at him ignoring the little jump my heart just did. He looked awesome as always with his shiny varsity jacket and school pants. His buzz cut is as perfect as always and he still has the longest male lashes I've ever seen. His green eyes bore into me as if trying to read through me and know about everything happening in my life. I look away letting out a breath I didn't even know I was holding.

"What are doing, Aiden?"

"Settling down for history class." He says laid back.

I snap my eyes to him looking for any head injuries that might be the reason for this little malfunction. "I can see that but why are you doing so beside me?"

"Because I realized we have history together." He says with a straight face then gives up smiling at his own little pun.

"We've had history together - no pun intended - for the past year. Why are you sitting with me now? Don't you have friends to be with?" I ask through my gritted teeth, he's causing me to malfunction. I can't deal with this.

"Aren't we friends?" He ask and I ungracefully let my jaw fall on his behalf.

"No, we are not. Not since we broke up and you started dating Evelyn. Evelyn who's every obsessive of you by the way." I say still looking at him like he has two heads.

He sighed, "Roxy--"

"Its Anna." I cut him off.

"Anna," he starts again. "I've missed you."

I let that cute word get to me for a full minute. I've wanted to hear that for so long and now he's finally saying it, it feels so wrong. "Since when? This morning? Quit the jokes Aiden."

"I'm not lying. Look at me and you'll know I'm not lying." He says reaching for my hand.

That's the sick thing. I know Aiden Macer so well that I know when he's lying or not. He's not lying. My heart swells so hard, I don't know what to say but that's until a blond cheer captain sashays in with her posses. The moment is immediately smashed to dust as Evelyn Munroe scans the class and when she see Aiden sitting beside me. She glares. I watch her go to their usual seat and then seat, then proceed to glare some more.

"Shut up Aiden. I don't want to know." I say tearing my hand away from his and staring at the white board ahead.

"I know when you're lying too." He says and I don't try to look at him. I don't undergo the torture for long because the teacher walks in, lecture starts and Aiden shuts up. Perks of sitting in front.

When the bell rings, I hurriedly pack my things and make a run for it. Out of the predators view.

"Anna."

Correction, try to.

"What?" I snap at Aiden.

"I'm sorry." When he says that, I start regretting snapping at him.

"For what?" I ask in a softer voice.

"For abandoning and leaving you alone. I shouldn't have done that."

I shake my head, "I broke up with you. Its okay."

"Have coffee with me?"

"Aiden..."

"Please Roxy, one cup as friends."

I look at his eyes and I seize any protest.  "Fine, just... far from school."

He smiles and I literally run away blending into the crowd. What did I just do?

**

"Aiden came up to me." I say unbuttoning my shirt.

Jamie whisper yells, "What?!" At the same time Christine says, "I saw."

"What did he want?" Christine asks pulling on her gym shorts.

"He wanted to talk. He said he was sorry and made me say yes to coffee after school." I tell them folding up my uniform and carefully placing them inside my locker.

"Made you?" Jamie asks with a teasing brow, I glare at her and she laughs. "Okay, why do you think he's talking to you now? Maybe there's trouble in paradise."

"Maybe but I really really don't want to get involved with anything that has to do with Evelyn."

"But you've wanted this, right?" Jamie asks sitting on the bench still fully clothed in her uniform. "You said the breakup was a lapse. You wanted Aiden to come back to you and maybe its finally going to happen."

I shake my head, " 'wanted' is the key word. Now I'm starting to think that break up was a good thing and especially since he got involved with Evelyn, it should stay that way."

"What I'm I hearing?" Jamie asks in disbelief cleaning her ears with her fingers. "You don't like Aiden Macer, Soccer captain and quarterback anymore?"

I didn't answer that as I tied the laces to my trainers. I was already dressed in a big yellow T-shirt that had the school name and logo written in red in front of it and my surname 'RICHARDS' at the back. Then small black shorts that only covered my butt well. When I'm done with my shoes, I see Christine and Jamie still looking at me, awaiting an answer. I roll my eyes at them, "I still do but I can live without it, I've done it fine all this while."

Not exactly fine but I've done it.

Deciding to change topics, I turn to Jamie, "You're not changing?"

She frowns, "No, I despise gym class."

Christine and I share a look. Jamie usually gets picked on during gym class because of her size and her refusal to wear shorts. We usually do our best to defend her but there's just so much she can take and she's not really the exercising type so unless we're taking notes, gym class is completely useless to her.

"You're skipping?" Christine asks.

"Nope," she raises a camera - Ian's camera. "I've got yearbook pictures to take so I'll be on the bleachers."

"Coach Martin won't say anything?" I ask tying my hair into a ponytail.

"Nope, I've talked to him." She says.

"Great. Take some good pics okay?" I hold unto Christine's hand as we leave the locker room together.

"No more Aiden?" Christine asks bringing back the topic I thought forgotten. "Why do you have a feeling this has something to do with the dark mufti wearing photographer?"

I smirk at her, "because it has everything to do with the dark mufti wearing photographer."

She shake her head in amusement. "Be careful."

"When I'm I ever not?"

Fortunately and unfortunately for me I have gym class with everyone and when I say everyone, I mean Everyone. The Evelyns are present, three of them in their blond glory. Aiden, Lionel and Finn are also present making all the girls go doe eyed. And there's Ian Maurice. Gym class is my favourite class of the day – Sarcasm intended, sarcasm unintended. There's never a dull or boring moment. Either things are going really good or really bad, either way I get to hit something and that's perfectly fine with me.

Unlike other days that immediately I get in I start looking for the enemy or Aiden, this time I start looking for Ian. I easily find him, he's tall and his hair is really distinctive, separating him from the rest. He has the school's gym shirt on - a long sleeve version - but his pants are the same ripped jeans from today. Other than the yellow T-shirt he looks the same and just as gorgeous. The shirt outlines his muscles and abs and with the way he has his arms crossed resting on wall, I see majority of the girls swooning over his biceps.

I separate from Christine and jog to him. His eyes shifts to me just before I'm close enough and the distinctive frown vanishes. I smile, stopping right in front of him, "there you are lone wolf."

"Lone wolf?" He asks uncrossing his arms.

"Yea, they are usually the most fragile but you don't look fragile at all." I purse my lips placing my hand on my chin. "In fact, you look alpha-ish."

He nods, "I'm gonna take that as a compliment."

I smile, "You should because it was a compliment."

"I guess this is my turn to give a compliment in return?"

I smile, "Not that I'm expecting one or asking for it..."

"You were right." He says and I blink at him. "You do rock shorts."

My jaw drops and I look away to hide my flaming cheeks, "uh..."

"What?" Ian says and I feel his breath on my neck, he brings his face closer. "Roxanna, doesn't take compliments well?"

I finally turn around to him before I combust, "She does but ones from a dashing young man takes her off guard."

He smiles and I do too, we kept eyes contact and I could've swore there was an ocean wave going on in his eyes. We were interrupted by Coach Martin's whistle.

"Gather up, mischiefs!"

I extended my hand out to Ian from behind, "come on?"

He looks down at my hand and I blush tempted to retract but then he places two fingers in mine and I laugh holding onto it nonetheless.

"What, you don't think I can hold your Hulk hand?"

"Not with those fry fingers." He says.

"Hey!"

He rolls his eyes, "and did he just say mischiefs?"

"Yup, that what he calls us and he isn't exactly wrong."

"Oh really?"

"Yup, we're pretty mischievous."

"You don't look mischievous." He points out.

"Really, dang it and here I thought the small shorts were working." I smirk.

"Oh, I get it." I laugh at his cuteness, pulling him to join the class. Most people have their eyes on us, on Ian and our hands together but I don't care. Especially when I see Aiden and Evelyn Munroe are among the 'most people'.

"Okay," Coach says clapping his hands together. "We'll be doing a little basketball, no a lot, till the end of this class. You guys suck at your passes and girls, try to lift your butt would you." Some murmurs start and I see Ian smirking. "Shut up! Couch Potatoes. We'll be separated into two teams, the loser team gets to clean up the gym."

"What?" A girl shrieks because cleaning the gym is soo horrible. Nonsense.

Coach glares, "And wash everyone's gym clothes."

This time my jaw drops but its Evelyn Patrick that speaks up, "impossible."

"Hand washing." Coach adds daring another person to interrupt. We all turn to glare at Patrick and she turns red. "Anybody else has something to say?" With our lips sewn shut, we shake our heads. "Good didn't think so. Quarterback and Sullivan come out and pick your teammates."

Coach walks away just as Aiden and Finn separate themselves from the rest of us. Aiden goes first. "Anna."

Dang it! Dang it shit!

I reluctantly let go of Ian's fingers and walk up to Aiden going to stand behind him. I know why he choose me and at the same time, I don't. I'm good at the sport too and can definitely lift my butt off so I'm a good asset to his team but at the same time, why did he have to pick me? And first choice at that. I brood and mental wish that Aiden picks Ian too. I watch him and Finn chose students and finally it's just Ian and some other boy standing. My wishes don't come to past because Aiden picks some other boy and Finn is left at default with Ian.

I can't believe this! Why are we on different teams? I get why not one of them picked him. He's the new guy and no one has ever seen him play, they picked people they were sure of but my guts tells me Finn is going to be glad he got Ian Maurice.

"Ready?" Coach ask coming to stand in the middle of both teams with the basket ball, he blows his whistle and releases the ball. "Kill each other!"

The match starts and after a few dribbles, passes and turns, the gym goes silent as Ian Maurice scores the first goal for Finn's team. I don't think anybody is sure how to react because we definitely did not expect that and Ian looks around confused until Finn raises his fist up hollering and clapping. His teammates clap too and I smile proudly.

"That's what I'm talking about. No kidding. Kill and destroy or wash!" Coach shouts from where he's sitting and its now we finally get it.

Kill and destroy or wash!

"Anna," Aiden calls making a successful pass to me, I dribble the ball, bouncing it between my hand and the floor as I swiftly dodge opponents. I jump throwing the ball up and watch it go throw the hoop, scoring a point to us. Aiden and I subconsciously slaps hands together with a smile and when I look at Ian, he nods at me but his eyes say; challenge accepted.

The match really takes off and it Aiden and I verses Ian and Finn. Everybody else plays but they aren't nearly as good as us four or taking it as serious. My body brushes over Ian's. His hand touches my waist a couple times and when he scores remarkably, he'll wink at me. When I score, I pat my butt at him. Even though we were in a battle, we had smiles on our faces and pride in our eyes for each other.

The basketball match ended in a tie and half the team were panting on their butt. Christine looked so pale and sweaty, I was scared she was going to pass out. I was tired and sweaty too but I could go another round. As I rested my hands on my knees to bring my breathing back to normal. I caught Aiden glaring at Ian who was having a friendly talk with Finn. I nudged Aiden.

"It was just a friendly match."

He turned to me, "Yeah, yeah, I know."

"Okay," Coach clapped his hands together, "that was impressive I must say but you ended in a tie. Next time try not to. Get off your asses and head out to the field, time to do a little washing."

What?!

Haha, thoughts?

We get to see Aiden and coach Martin. 😍
