Hiking Birthday Trip
It was early in the morning, the sun had just barely risen into the sky as a blaring alarm clock sounded in the brothers room as the leader of Brozone got up immediately from his bed.
"It's my birthday!!! Everyone get up!" John Dory yelled excitedly.
His younger brothers groaned, annoyed that their oldest brother woke them up so early in the morning it was barely 5:30am.
"Why did you have to wake us so early?" Clay complained, pulling the blanket over his head.
"Can't we.....go back to....sleep?" Spruce murmured tiredly as he fell asleep again.
"Not today! It's my birthday and that means I have decided what we will do!" John Dory explained.
"But isn't that what you do every day?" Clay yawned.
John Dory ignored Clay and pulled Spruce out of his bed and he fell to the ground which woke him back up.
"Ow! Dude why?!" Spruce rubbed his hip in pain.
"BECAUSE IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!" John Dory shouted.
"What are we doing today?" Floyd tiredly rubbed his eyes.
"I'm so glad you asked! We are.... Drumroll please?" The eldest brother asked.
Spruce sighed as he did the drumroll for his older brother yawning as he did so.
"Going Hiking!" John Dory announced.
All the brothers looked slightly unimpressed as he announced what was just gonna be walking somewhere all day, they didn't exactly want to but he was playing the birthday card so they had no choice but to accept their fate, this was going to be a long day.
A little while later the brothers were packing their bags for the hiking trip, Grandma Rosiepuff noticed at the corner of her eye Clay was stuffing his bag with his prank stuff and immediately took it out.
"Grandma I need that!" Clay whined.
"Not today you don't, you can leave your pranking stuff at home ok?" Grandma Rosiepuff said.
"Ok.." Clay sighed in disappointment.
"Alright Branch, repeat after me ok?" Floyd was sitting with Branch as they waited to leave.
Branch cooed in response, smiling at his older brother.
"Try to say happy birthday" Floyd encouraged Branch so he could wish his eldest brother a happy birthday.
"Hap bibi!" Branch responded, not getting it quite right.
"Aww good try Branch, we'll work on it later" Floyd smiled.
"Boys do you have everything ready?" Grandma Rosiepuff asked.
"Yes Grandma" All the brothers responded.
"Let's go!!!" John Dory already made a headstart.
"Don't run off ok?" Grandma Rosiepuff reminded her eldest grandson.
John Dory gave a thumbs up as he was still a bit ahead but not too far so Grandma Rosiepuff can keep an eye on him, the other brothers followed at their grandma's pace as they made their way to John's chosen hiking adventure which was a mountain that was habited by lots of armadillos. As soon as they reached the start of the trail, Grandma Rosiepuff got them to wait for a minute.
"Now since it is John Dory's birthday, you boys can go on the trail by yourself, I'm trusting you that all of you will be safe. I'll be back here waiting with Branch, I want you all back before sunset ok?" Grandma Rosiepuff explained.
"Ok Grandma!" John Dory smiled excitedly.
"What's so special about this trail again?" Floyd asked.
"It's Armadillo Mountain! There's a ton of armadillos you can spot in the trail that are just like-" John Dory explained before he go interrupted.
"If you say Rhonda in that annoying voice again I'm going to push your head right into your birthday cake later" Spruce glared at his older brother.
"....Anyways, there are so many different kinds of armadillos you can find, it'll be fun I promise" The eldest brother reassured.
"Well I'm planning on reaching the top first! See ya!" Clay already made his way onto the trail.
"Wait for us!" Spruce shouted and followed him.
Floyd gave his grandma a quick hug and followed John Dory, joining his other brothers as they started the trail, about an hour went by and they were all about a quarter way up the mountain, Clay who was running most of the way was now exhausted and didn't know if he could manage to go on.
"I.. Can't... Keep... Going...." Clay went onto the ground clearly exhausted.
"Maybe if you took your time you'd have more energy" Spruce said.
"Can...someone carry me?" Clay asked.
"No, you're all sweaty! If you can't keep going just go back to grandma" John Dory explained.
"But that means I'd have to sit down with Branch" Clay complained.
"Not exactly..." Floyd fidgeted with his fingers.
"Floyd...What did you do?" Spruce asked.
Floyd opened his hair and Branch cooed, seeing all his brothers.
"You have got to be kidding me..." John Dory facepalmed.
"I didn't want Branch to miss out, he just kinda crawled into my hair before I started the trail" Floyd looked down with small tears forming in his eyes.
"Great, now grandma is probably panicking about where Branch is" Spruce crossed his arms.
"Now what do we do? I don't want to go back down now, we're almost half way" John Dory sighed.
"Well someone needs to tell grandma that Branch is with us" Spruce said.
"I'll tell her, I'm done with this mountain for today" Clay explained, still exhausted.
"And what about Branch?" John Dory asked.
"He can stay with us, it'll be a fun experience for him" Floyd smiled.
"But I don't want to have to deal with a baby on my birthday, we don't even have any of the supplies to take care of him" John Dory pointed out.
"Don't worry I thought ahead and packed some diapers and food just in case grandma needed more" Floyd showed his bag.
"I really don't think this is a good idea Floyd" John Dory said.
"Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?" Floyd was doing the cute puppy dog eyes with Branch to convince their eldest brother.
John Dory sighed, this just had to happen on his special day, however the cuteness got to him and he just knew he couldn't say no, besides, Floyd was prepared with all the supplies they needed just in case, so what could possibly go wrong?
"Fine, he can come with us as long as I don't have to change his diaper" John Dory explained.
"Deal!" Floyd agreed to his condition.
"Let's go Branch!" Floyd skidaddled away with Branch in his arms.
"..........Ok yeah I'm out, see ya!" Clay dropped on the ground and rolled down the hill.
"Anyway, less talking and more walking" John Dory followed after Floyd and Branch.
"LeSs tALkiNg MorE waLkInG" Spruce mimicked as he continued to walk.
They were about halfway up the mountain, John Dory was getting a little frustrated because he still couldn't see any armadillos, usually they would be wandering around the trail but he could find none of them anywhere, he hoped that he would at least to get to see one. He knew he wasn't probably getting Rhonda until christmas so this was the next best thing, now they were all starting to get tired, the brothers needed a break.
"Why haven't we spotted any armadillos yet?" John Dory complained
"Maybe your square head is scaring them all away" Spruce suggested.
"No way, they might just be... having lunch!" John Dory concluded.
"Speaking of lunch, can we stop and have some too? I think Branch is getting hangry" Floyd explained.
"BAAAAAAA!" The tiny baby shouted, wanting his food.
"Ok ok fine! But let's make it quick" John Dory said.
They managed to find a spot to take a small break to have some food, Floyd gave Branch his favourite banana and chocolate purée, which got their baby brother back to his happy self, John Dory who had already finished his lunch was impatiently waiting for his brothers to finish their food, at this rate they would never find armadillos.
"Are you guys almost done? we need to get going, the armadillos are probably just at the top" John Dory explained.
"Just try to chill box boy, we still have time" Spruce said.
"But grandma told us to be back before Mr. sun goes to sleep" Floyd pointed out.
"Who cares about Mr. sun at this point? I'm going to see the armadillos!" John Dory protested.
"But grandma trusted us that we would be back in time" Floyd said.
"You can go back to grandma if you want but I'm going to find the armadillos" John Dory started to continue heading up the mountain.
"John wait! Ugh... Cmon Floyd we can't let him go alone" Spruce and Floyd followed after him.
The brothers were now almost at the top, still no armadillos in sight but John Dory was determined to find them, even if he had to wait until the night, Branch suddenly saw a tiny glitter worm and was intrigued, ever so carefully he managed to crawl out of Floyd's hair and started to crawl towards the worm.
"That's weird my hair feels lighter... Wait! Did my hair fall out?!" Floyd panicked.
"Your hair is fine" Spruce rolled his eyes.
"Then what happened-" Suddenly Floyd realized Branch was no longer in his hair.
Floyd turned around and saw Branch hugging the worm and as the baby sat up properly the gravity pulled him backwards due to the weight of his giant massive head, he giggled as he started to tumble down the mountain.
"BRANCH!" Floyd and Spruce chased after him.
John Dory was about to run after him but he stopped, he was so close to the top of the mountain, so close to seeing the armadillos, if he followed after Branch there was a possibility he would never see them, what was more important? He sighed knowing the correct choice as he quickly ran to catch up to his brothers.
Eventually they all caught up to Branch before he could tumble more down the mountain, the brothers were now back around the middle where they had lunch earlier but it was too late now to continue climbing to make it back to the top.
"I'm so sorry John I should've kept a better eye on Branch" Floyd looked down sadly.
"It's ok, I don't think I would've found the armadillos anyways I'm just glad Branch is ok, let's just head back down" John Dory headed his way back down in defeat.
Floyd and Spruce followed him still feeling bad that he couldn't get to see an armadillo, it was his birthday and now it was ruined, or so they thought until suddenly John Dory gasped quietly as he saw a whole herd of baby armadillos were gathered around his grandma and 2nd youngest brother.
"Boys you're back just in time" Grandma Rosiepuff smiled.
"How did you find them?" Floyd asked.
"Turns out the baby armadillos only like coming out during sunset and roam the mountains at night" Clay was reading a book on armadillos.
"...So we literally climbed all the way up there for nothing?" Spruce was a little annoyed.
"I wouldn't say for nothing, John got to see the armadillos in the end" Floyd observed John Dory who was snuggling and petting a bunch of them with sparkles in his eyes.
"Can this day literally get any better?" John was so happy he finally got to see the baby armadillos.
"Happy birthday!" Branch finally learnt to say it.
John dory smiled hearing his youngest brother wish him a happy birthday, he got up from where he was sitting and grabbed Branch to sit with him as they played with the baby armadillos together.
"Best birthday ever" John Dory smiled, this was truely an amazing birthday.
The end.
