Chapter 22 - The Fire Station

A/N: Yet another non-SBI character!

-Tommy's POV-

Phil is finally taking me to visit the fire station! It's been so long since I've seen the people there. I hope they remember me! They will, right?

I'm pulled out of my thinking by Phil walking into my room.

"Tommy, are you ready to go?"

"Almost! Just let me grab my shoes!" I quickly put my shoes on and went with Phil to his car. It's a used car, but I know he's really proud of it and likes that now he has the freedom to go further not just for work but also for whatever other reason he wants to, including driving me to the fire station near my home!

The drive was pretty long, and it seemed even longer to me because I was so excited. Phil got tired of me asking how much longer the drive is, but I couldn't help it! Besides, I'd never gone there from our orphanage before, so how was I supposed to know how long the drive is? I mean, other than the fact that Phil handed me the gps so I could see how long it said the trip would take.

But when we got close, it was really cool because I recognised the area. Then, I started to get nervous. What if all of the people I know retired or moved, and I don't know anyone? What if there's another L'Manburg street and we went to the wrong fire station? When looking up the location, Phil mentioned he was confused because of a Manburg street. Wait, no, this definitely is the right place because I recognise it. But still, what if everyone retired?! I really hope I get to see—

"Tommy, we're almost here." Phil says.

"I know! I recognise this area from when I used to live here. My house is down that street we just passed, down a few blocks, then you take a right, and— Wait, I could show you the location of my house! We wouldn't be able to go in though." I replied.

"If you want to, we can. Do you think you'd be ready to see your old house though?"

That's a good question. Last time I was there was when I was told the news about my parents dying. Also, so many memories of this area in general are related to them. This trip might be harder than I originally thought.

"Hmm, you're right, maybe not. Either way, let's go to the fire station first."

"Alright mate." He pulled into the parking lot and parked. We then leave the car and walk into the station.

(1)

When we walk in the door, I remember all of the times I've walked in this same building with my parents. I pause a bit, somewhat overwhelmed, and feel Phil put an arm around me and squeeze my shoulder as a way of saying that he's here and I'm fine. I take a deep breath and continue, giving Phil an appreciative glance.

When we walk through the entrance hallway thing, we get to the receptionist's desk. There's a guy there who I don't recognise, (2) which worries me a bit.

"Hello you two, how can I help you?" The guy, who's probably the receptionist, asks.

I'm a bit too nervous to talk at first, so I don't say anything. Hil notices this and talks for me.

"We're here because Tommy is interested in firefighters, and he's visited this station before." Phil explained.

"Oh, that's awesome! I don't think I've met you before, but I haven't worked here very long. Hmm, do you know Nick?"

I look up quickly. Sapnap(3)! "Yeah, I do! Is he here?"

"Yeah. Let me go get him. You two should probably wait here, we aren't supposed to have visitors walking around the station alone. My name's Bob, by the way."

"Okay, thank you Bob!" Philza says as Bob leaves.

Phil looks around the entrance/lobby area, then looks at me. "Is this like you remember?"

I smile and nod. "Yeah! And I'm glad Sapnap still works here! I was kind of worried when I didn't know the receptionist."

"Wait, Sapnap? Who's that?" Phil asks, confused.

Oops, I didn't explain that. But before I could answer, Bob came back in with Nick (4).

"Sapnap! It's been a long time, man!"

"Tommy! Well, I– I'm glad to see you back. And who is the person with you?" Nick asks, noticeably confused about why I'm here, but in an excited way.

"This is Phil! Phil, this is Nick!" I introduced.

"Wait, is your name Nick or Sapnap? Bob called you Nick, and Tommy called you both names." Phil asked, confused.

"Yeah, where did Sapnap come from?" Bob asked.

"Well, it's an interesting story when I once called Snapchat "the Snap Ap"," Sapnap starts explaining. The story is kind of long, though (5), so I interrupt.

"Basically, I decided to call Nick "Sapnap" because I can. His real name is Nick."

Phil chuckled at my weird explanation. "Why am I not surprised. Nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too, Phil. And I see you've already met Bob, my coworker."

Bob rolls his eyes. "He made me fill in for the receptionist when they were on their lunch break."

"Stop complaining. It was your turn. Anyway, Tommy, one of our fire engines broke down a few months ago, so we have a new one. Would you like to check it out?"

"Oh, which one? Was it engine 45?"

"No, it was 23. Now we have engine 76."

"Oh, ok! Cool!"

-Phil's POV-

Tommy and Nick, with Bob coming by occasionally, looked at the new engine, talked about fire fighter stuff, talked to the other people that Tommy knows, and discussed all of the things that have happened since Tommy left. He looks really excited, and I'm so glad he's able to continue to come to this fire station, even after all of the stuff that's happened in his life.

At one point, when Tommy left to go to the bathroom, Sapnap looked at me and said, "I was there when, well, I'm assuming you know what happened to Tommy? Why he hasn't visited here in a while?"

"Yes. We both are in the same orphanage."

"Ah. Well, I was on the team that got to the crash first. I was there when the paramedics said that they'd already died. I was worried about Tommy, but I'm glad he seems to enjoy hanging out with you. He's not alone. And I'm glad he's able to visit today." Nick explained.

"He'll probably visit a lot more times after today, I told him I'd drive him here whenever he wants to go within reason and my busy schedule. So don't worry about never seeing him again. He really likes this place."

Just then. Tommy walks back. "What were you talking about?"

"I was just saying how you'll probably be visiting here again, this isn't a one-time trip."

"You bet it isn't!" Tommy responded.

They spent a bit more time doing stuff, before Sapnap got called out to go deal with another emergency. By then, we'd already been there for a good 2.5 hours, so it was time for us to leave anyway.

Since we had a somewhat long drive back, and we'd been gone awhile, we decided not to do any sightseeing around Tommy's neighborhood and instead go straight home, after stopping to pick up some food. And because I'm nice like that, and because fast food is better than the normal orphanage food, I texted Wilbur and Technoblade and got their orders as well. In all, I'd say it's a pretty successful trip.

A/Ns:

1. And now my total ignorance of what a fire station is like is revealed. I actually googled a fire station floor plan so I'd know what types of things are in a fire station. Also in this part, pretend that there are other firefighters in the building too.

2. I would describe this guy but I don't want to come up with what he looks like so use your imagination.

3. My computer autocorrects Sapnap's name to Subpoena for some reason.

4. In this story Sapnap looks like his minecraft character self, so black hair, white shirt with a flame on it (when not actually fighting a fire, since he'd be wearing a fire jacket if that was the case), white bandana, etc.

5. Aka I don't want to come up with a story for it.
