Chapter 13 - Guitar

A/N: So yeah, about the last chapter, Fundy probably isn't going to be in the story much, but I included him. That was partially because I needed more chapters, but mostly because it just kind of made sense to add him in the first chapter he appeared, and then I couldn't just not have Wilbur meet him. This story was originally going to be purely SBI, but there are going to be a few exceptions, and this is one. He will also end up as a much bigger character in Brothers? 2 and VoidSlayer77's Brothers? 3.

Anyway, onto this chapter!

-Phil's POV-

So, I'd been thinking about Wilbur. I really want to get him a guitar at some point because it's obvious he really wants to learn to play it. It's all he talks about sometimes, and whenever we go to the mall, there's a music store and when we're done shopping, he likes to sit in there and admire the guitars. One of the people that works there even lets him play it occasionally, and he really wants to be able to work at the music store when he's old enough.

And since I did get Techno a computer if he paid for half of it, I want to do something similar for WIlbur. But his birthday is 9 months away, and I don't want to wait that long. Also, Wilbur doesn't have a source of income like Techno did. So this is difficult. Of course, the average guitar isn't quite as expensive as the PC I helped Techno buy, but I doubt he'll want me to just randomly get him a gift for no occasion. He can be very independent and stubborn that way.

After thinking about it for a while, I decide I'll buy him a guitar, and after I give it to him, if he complains, I'll figure out a way for him to pay me back then. That might just be me giving Future Phil problems, or maybe a solution will come up.

Of course, I told Techno about my idea too.

"That's a great idea! I would help you pay for it, but since I'm dropping my obstacle course thing, because training for it is too much work, and I'm instead making YouTube videos, I won't be making much money for a while."

"Oh Techno, that's fine! I wasn't telling you this so you'd—"

"Wait, I have an extra hundred from before, you can add that to your funds! I know a nice guitar costs considerably more than that, but like I said—"

"Techno, you really don't need to do this."

"It's fine, Phil. I want to help pay. That way it'll feel like it's partially my gift too. We both know how much he's been wanting a guitar. He's my brother too, Phil."

I could see him realize what he said, and grow red from embarrassment.

"Wait– no– I meant– uh, friend! He's my good friend too!"

I laughed. "It's alright, Techno. I find myself thinking of him that way too sometimes, before I check myself. But I'm glad you're fine with it. I was worried that you'd be jealous that you had to pay for half of your computer but Will gets his guitar for free. Also it's not even for his birthday!"

"No, he can't pay for his, and I wouldn't want him to have to wait until he can. Same with the birthday, it's too far away. But if I were you, I'd make him do my chores for a few weeks to make it up or something."

"I had the same thought process as you. But good idea with the chores, if he feels obligated to pay for the guitar, maybe he can pay me back with chores."

'No problem. I'm really glad you're doing this. I would, but as I said before, I'm not really overflowing with money right now. Hopefully I get popular on YouTube and it starts making me money, but that doesn't happen to that many people so it might just be wishful thinking."

"Aww mate. I can tell you really enjoy it, so even if eventually you have to get a job and spend a lot of time doing other stuff, keep working on your channel."

The conversation continued to switch random topics from there, but I decided to carry out my guitar schemes. After I bought the guitar, it was a lot easier to get it up to my room without Wilbur seeing because Techno could distract him, which I couldn't do with Techno. Also, I don't need to be as careful about hiding it in our room because Wilbur doesn't spend much time there.

Finally, the gift giving day comes.

I kock softly on his door, having already put the guitar behind a piece of furniture in our meeting room (the random abandoned room, if you don't remember). "Will? It's Phil."

He opens the door. "Hi Philza! Do you need something?"

"Well, do you want to come with me to the meeting room?"

"Sure. Is there something we have to discuss?" He asks, confused.

"Uh, more or less, yeah. Come with me."

"Alright?"

I know I wasn't doing a very good job of making it seem like nothing interesting was going to happen, but I didn't care, I was too excited.

When we get to the room, Techno is already there, waiting for us.

"Hi Techno! Do you know why we're meeting?" WIl asked.

"Uh, you'll find out soon." From an outside perspective, he looked almost bored, but I could tell he was excited, and I'm sure Wilbur could too.

"So, Wilbur, I decided to give you a gift, and Techno helped as well. I know it's not your birthday or anything, but I just couldn't wait until an appropriate occasion came up. So, here you go!" As I said the last sentence, I lifted up the guitar from behind where it was hiding. "It's not tuned, sorry I have no clue how you tune a guitar."

"Wha– huh— Really?! This is mine?!" He asked, looking between the guitar and us. "A- Are you sure I'm not dreaming?"

I step closer, putting it in his arms. He holds it super carefully, as if it was a water balloon that would shatter or pop at any harsh movements.

"Do I really need to pinch you to make it clear you're not asleep?" Techno asked.

Wilbur momentarily snapped out of his haze to look at Techno. "No, I'm good, thanks." He looks down at his guitar again, then back up at us. "But seriously, thank you so much. I've wanted a guitar since I was like, 5. But please, let me pay you back. I don't know how, but please."

"Will, it's a gift. You don't have to pay me or Techno back for it, it's yours."

"No, please. It won't feel like it's mine if I don't do something for it. It will just feel like I'm borrowing yours."

"Well, if it will really help, you can do some of my chores for a bit. Maybe also a few of Techno's since he also helped pay?"

"Of course! How about for a month?"

"Well, I was just thinking for a week or so, but if you want to do more, I'm not stopping you."

"Oh. I'll do two weeks then I guess"

"Sure, that works. But enough about chores, enjoy your guitar! You deserve it, little brother."

I saw Wilbur looking at me with an even more excited face, if it was even possible after getting his guitar, though it was also a bit confused. I still didn't realize why until I saw Techno look over at me with an expression that seemed to ask 'Did you mean to say that, or was that a slip?'

"Uh— mate! I meant to say 'You deserve it, mate' " I said, embarrassed.

Will's face seemed to fall, and even though he might've just been dramatic to get me to respond, I wasn't taking any chances. I rush over, holding him by the shoulders and looking him in the eye.

"Hey, Will, look at me. Even though I didn't mean to say that out loud, Techno and I were talking about this earlier–"

"Oh, now you're bringing me into this?" Techno said, though we could all tell he wasn't actually annoyed.

"But we feel like we're each other's new brothers."

-Wilbur's POV-

The part of my mind that's trying to protect my emotions responded to that by saying 'Feel like?' Really? And how can you be brothers if you're not related? This is stupid', but the rest of my brain didn't listen to it. Despite the fact I was confused, those words for some reason made me feel ridiculously happy and safe.

"What? How can you be part of someone's family if you're not related?"

"That happens all the time, it's called adoption." Techno responded, trying to help.

"Well yeah, but no one adopted all of us. We're no more related than we are to the other random kids that are living in this orphanage."

"Well no, no one adopted us, really, but we kind of adopted each other. We found each other when we were alone and decided to become really close friends, until we're practically a family. The only thing that's missing is a legal document, but since we're all minors there's nothing we can do about that."

I was so happy I needed to process everything and take a moment to realize all that happened. I give everyone a tight hug, grab my guitar, and leave to my room. (1)

-Phil's POV-

"Well, I guess that happened too." I said. "Whoops?"

"Way to go, overwhelming Wilbur."

"Oh, be quiet you."

A/Ns:

1. No, that isn't me projecting my introverted-ness onto all of my characters because I don't understand what it's like to be an extrovert. Just like with my American-ness and the particular way I speak. Definitely not.

And woah, is this me writing in past tense instead of future tense? Yes, I just don't care anymore. Past tense is my usual writing style, and I don't think I'm using present tense correctly anyway.
