Chapter 12
The dorms were pure chaos. People running up and down the stairs, shouting though the halls, parents waiting outside and milling in the common rooms, and guys running into each other with their bags in their arms.
I stayed back in my room to watch most of it with a smile on my face. My bag was full of stuff on my bed, and I was standing with my shirt open and hair unbrushed. Reggie passed by to talk to someone and shoved me back into the room.
I laughed and shot him the finger. I glanced the other direction and saw Nate talking animatedly to a younger kid with his same hair. He glanced up and gave me a wave. I waved back and ducked into my room.
I buttoned up my shirt, tucked it into my old jeans, and then tackled the mess on my head. I threw my brush into my bag and zipped up the toiletries. Last thing I needed was shampoo all over my stuff.
"Hey hot stuff. You ready?" Vince was standing at the door looking delicious. I grinned at him and threw my new runners on top of my clothes.
"Ready as I'll ever be." I quipped back. I zipped up the bag and then grabbed my nice jacket. I swung the dark blue scarf around my neck and then slipped into the arms.
"Damn boy. You look great. My parents should be here to get us any minute, so we should head downstairs." He had his bag at his feet and someone swore at him as they tripped over it in the hall.
"Thank god the blue mostly washed out." I mumbled as I grabbed the bag off the bed and draped the carry strap over my shoulder.
"I don't know. I kind of liked it." Vincent was sending me a cheeky grin and I rolled my eyes. All our attention turned to getting downstairs without running someone over or getting mowed down ourselves.
"I doubt it would make a good first impression." I reasoned. He laughed.
"It's no worse than my brothers and I have done over the years. Relax Alex. You have nothing to worry about." He grabbed my free hand as we walked through the common room, and although it was a bit awkward, I liked it.
It was calming to have him leading me though the chaotic group. I didn't even notice if there were any looks our way. I was too busy watching his strong back as he confidently walked ahead.
"Hey Alex! Have a good holiday!" I turned my head to smile at Mike as I passed by.
"Yeah you too Mike." I called back.
"Alex, man, give me a shout over the break." Alec came walking up beside us and I nodded to him.
"Of course. I got your number in my tablet. I can shoot you a message and we can Skype or something later." I replied. He smiled and headed off. We broke through the doors into the cold outside and I shivered.
Vince dropped his bag on the ground and I swung mine onto the dirt next to it. I flapped the opening on my jacket shut and did up a few buttons. My free hands went into my pockets and I shot my brows up when I felt something inside.
I pulled it out. It was my phone. My mom had hidden my phone inside my jacket pocket. I grinned at it and tucked it back away. Damn my mum was awesome. I had been missing that thing for months.
"Kipling Otterson, you get back here right this minute!" A rather tall woman shouted from a large black Cadillac.
"Dammit Mom! How many times do I have to tell you not to call me that!" Ferret was storming across the grounds towards me. I raised a brow at him and smirked.
"Kipling?" I teased him. He rolled his eyes at me.
"Don't you start. Have a good Christmas, man." He gave me a slap on the back and turned to Vince. "Watch out for him, ya?"
"Sure Ferret. Have a good one." He nodded. The kid bounded inside the dorms again, much to his mother's displeasure. Micah came out of the dorms in his uniform, looking a little depressed.
"Hey Micah, you alright?" I asked him as he approached. He sighed and nodded.
"Yeah. A whole month without Reggie and having to wear this stupid thing..." He pulled at his tie and grimaced. "It's enough to make me want to cry."
"Ah, yeah. I feel you man." I winced in sympathy. He shook his head. I saw a rather old looking jeep pull up with a stern looking guy from the family picture sitting inside and clapped his back.
"This is me. See you in the new year." Micah took a deep breath and went to the vehicle. The old man poked at his uniform a little, helped him throw his bag in the back and then they took off.
"Ah, here they are." Vincent said under his breath. I looked over in anticipation. There was a white Toyota Highlander pulling into the parking lot at that moment and I admired it against the muted December scene.
"Nice ride." I said nonchalantly. I was feeling anything but nonchalant at that moment. I mean, I was literally seconds away from meeting my boyfriend's parents.
"It is one of very few vehicles that seats seven people comfortably." Vince said with a grin. I looked over at him in a little shock.
"Wait. What?" I think my eyes were a little wide.
"I told you I had brothers, right?" He was positively beaming as he watched the car doors open. I looked on in horror as all four doors opened and people came spilling out. One, two, three, four, five... shit, how many people was I meeting today?
"Vincent! Come here and give your mother a hug." A rather pretty lady with a wide smile came over to us with her arms open. Vincent rolled his eyes and enveloped the shorter woman in a tight hug.
"Heya mom. How was the drive?" He murmured to her as she squeezed him.
"It was horrible. Always and Rarely fought half the way here and I thought I was going to lose my mind." She whined. I scrunched my brows at the conversation.
"I told you not to let them sit next to each other." The older man who was driving said. He was looking at me and I figured since Vincent was busy I would introduce myself.
"Hello, I'm Alex Kensington." I held out my hand to shake with a smile. He returned my smile and gave a firm handshake.
"Nice to meet you finally. I'm Quinn Wright. Vas... er, Vincent's father. Don't mind all of us. It is sort of tradition to all come pick up the latest student from school." He gestured to the boys who were tackling Vincent with hugs and noogies out front of the dorms.
"I'm Vincent's mother, Kinsey. You can call me Kinsey or Mom. I already have five boys and all their friends calling me that, so one more is just fine." The small woman came over and gave me a hug, surprising me a little. She was still a half foot shorter than me and had a good grip.
"Sure. Thank you." I felt a little awkward being hugged by the nice lady. I patted her back and then watched with some amusement as she turned and shouted at the boys.
"Would you brats stop for five minutes and introduce yourselves to our guest!" Her voice travelled across the grounds with a bellow and made quite a few heads turn our direction. I laughed under my breath and Mr. Wright flashed me a grin.
"Ah, sorry Mom. You know how it is." The tallest out of the group, only about an inch taller than Vince, said with a grin.
"I don't care how it is. Say hello and get his bag for him." She griped. I opened my mouth to protest, but she waved me off.
"Hello. I'm Alan. Oldest brother. Nice to meet you." He reached out a hand to shake and I took it with a smile.
"Alex. Nice to meet you. You don't have to get my bag." I took the firm, rough hand in a gripping shake. Damn, this guy looked a lot like my Vincent. His nose had been broken though.
"You obviously don't know our mum." He raised his brows, grabbed my bag and sauntered off to the car.
"Hey. Sydney Wright. The youngest older bro." A shorter guy with their mum's colouring waved at me as he tapped on his phone furiously with the other hand. His mom glared at him, and he hastily put the phone away.
"Mum, don't make me sit between them again. Please. I'm begging you." A nearly exact copy of their dad, only way younger said with a pleading expression as another boy squished his head.
"Ian, let go of your brother. Riley, sit on the other side of Sydney and Ian then." She pronounced. Ian, from the looks of things, let go and bowed with flourish in front of me. Riley groaned, still not happy.
"Ian. The better looking brother." He said with a wink. Vincent shoved him towards the vehicle with a glare.
"You wish." He growled. I laughed at them.
"So, you must be Riley." I turned to the last boy. He was trying to fix his hair. He blushed a little and nodded.
"Yeah. I'm Sydney's older twin. Fraternal if you couldn't tell. We were supposed to be girls." He leaned in and confessed with a sigh.
"I gave up trying for girls when I had Vincent. Obviously a lost cause at that point." Their mother dragged me to the vehicle and the boys started to arrange themselves inside the car.
"Most people give up at three. My wife is rather stubborn." Mr. Wright said with a placid smile. We both watched the chaos caused by the other Wrights. I exchanged a glance with him.
"Well, at least your life isn't boring." I offered with a grin.
"You have no idea." He replied as he got in the driver's seat. I was pulled inside the middle seat by Alan, squished between the eldest and my boyfriend.
He was right. I had no idea. But I was about to find out.
