Part 9
Natsume noticed that his sister cheeks have gotten a bit red...
"You looked flushed. Do you have a fever or something?" he asked.
Making the girl snap out of it, "Oh, no. I'm fine" Ema reassured him.
"You haven't ordered anything yet?" Natsume asked as he went and picked up the menu.
"I haven't" Ema answered, wanting to wait till her brother came to order together.
"What will you have?" Natsume ask her, wanting to know what sister would like to eat and drink.
"Um, o-oh, don't worry. I'm the one who asked you to meet, so I'll pay" Ema explains to him.
Making Natsume smiled, "Good attitude" he said all of the sudden.
"Huh?"
"If you'd planned to make me pay from the start, I wouldn't have stood for it but it's fine order whatever you want" Natsume said.
So the man went and pushed the menu away from him over to her.
"What? Oh...I appreciate it" Ema tells him back with a smile on her face.
"So..."
"...how are things at home?" Natsume asked as he and Ema order have just arrive at their table.
"O-Oh yes, it's been 4 months, we've got pretty used to things" she answered.
"I see" Natsume replied.
"I'm glad to hear that" he said as he pick up his cup and takes a sip of his tea.
"So, where are you getting stuck?" Natsume asked as he went and place the cup back down.
"The desert zone. I defeated all the mobs, but U didn't gain any levels and I can't beat the final boss. No matter what I do" Ema explains to him her situation as her brother listen on.
Hmm...
"You've put an awful lot of hours into it" Natsume said, making hid sister nod her head.
"But unless you level up in the previous zone you won't be able to best the desert zone" he informs her, advising his sister of what she needs to do on the video game.
"That m-makes sense" Ema replied as she had gotten out her notepad as she was jotting down what her brother just told her.
"But if you can't beat it, I'm afraid we'll have to make changes to the desert zone" Natsume states.
"Am I, t-the benchmark?" Ema questioned, wondering if she is or isn't.
Natsume nod his head, "Yes. Finding someone who into games like you do is difficult" he tells.
"But making video games is still a business" the man points out.
"So we need to be able to count on a certain number of players" he stated.
"Interesting" Ema replied as she just learn a new thing or two about her brother job.
Ring..Ring..Ring..Ring
"One second" said Natsume as he went and gets out his phone, to see who's reading him.
"Azusa?" he said his twin brother name before the man went and answer the call.
"Azusa?" Ema repeat what he just said as Natsume held the phone up to his ear.
"Hello?" Natsume greeted.
"Yeah, it's me" he confirm before he pauses as he was listening to what his brother was saying on the other line.
"Huh? Tsubaki?" Natsume said his other twin brother name.
"No, I don't know" he answered.
"Has he called?" Natsume asked, wanting to know if Azusa does so.
"No, not really. Got it. If he calls..." he before his brother hung up the call.
Click!
"What the hell was that?" Natsume said to himself as he lower the phone in his hand.
"What's wrong?" Ema asked as her brother stare down at it for a moment, before putting his phone away.
"Tsubaki didn't come home yesterday and Azusa seems worried" he said, explaining the situation to his sister.
Then the man look up and notice Ema looking down at her lap, like she knows something.
"Wait, do you know anything?" Natsume asked as a small flashback going through her head.
"Tsubaki went out early yesterday evening, and Azusa went after him, but..." Ema tells him.
Then the girl eyes widened as she realise something, "Do you suppose something happened?" Ema asked.
"Could it be..about that?" Natsume mutter under his breath, making having a idea of what his brother acting like this.
"About what? Please tell me if you know something" Ema said, wanting to get to the bottom of this.
If her older brother knows something that could help Tsubaki.
"Well, the truth is, I heard something at work" Natsume started to say as his sister listen on, wanting to know if does know or not.
"It was about an anime show" he stated.
"An anime show?" Ema repeated.
"We're a video game company, but a lot of our projects use voice actors, too. So we hear all kinds of things through those channels" Natsume informs her and she nod her head in understanding.
"It hasn't been officially announced yet, so I wouldn't name the title but a certain anime is the reason Tsubasa got into voice acting and a new series got green lit for that anime" Natsume tells her.
"The two of them told me about how they were auditioning for that now" Ema remembered.
"I see" Natsume replied.
"And ever since that news came out, Tsubaki's being saying he wants to play the lead. He's popular right now, do the producer seemed enthusiastic about it, too..." he explains to her.
"Ok, then..." Ema pressed, having an inkling to where this conversation was heading to.
"But when the cast was announced, the lead had gone to another voice actor. In the end, Tsubaki wasn't chosen" Natsume stated.
"What? Why not?" Ema asked, wanting to know the reason behind the decision.
"A lot goes into it, like how his voice balancing with the other actors" Natsume stated, informing her that they take their job serious.
"I understand, but Tsubaki wanted that role so badly, then..." Ema said to him before her brother interrupted her.
"And that's not the end of the story" said Natsume, causing the girl to become curious by what he meant.
"What?" Ema pressed, wanting to know what more he got to tell her.
"The voice actor that was chosen to play the lead instead of Tsubaki...was Azusa" Natsume announced.
"What?"
"B-But Azusa said he was auditioning for a different role" said Ema.
"It's not unusual to win a different role than the one you auditioned for" Natsume tells her.
"But the two of them are brothers and if it's a role that has special meaning for Tsubaki, it can't be so easy to rationalise like that..." said Ema.
"I won't say I'm entirely unsympathetic, but I question the idea of agonising over this sort of thing" Natsume commented.
"He's being chosen, so it's his job as a professional to live up to those expectations" he stated.
"But well, don't get involved Ema. There's nothing big brotherly about guys in their 20s having a teenage little sister worrying about them" Natsume advise the girl.
And Ema nods her head in response, "Hai"
