22. Boy On a Mission

Brian POV

He partied so much over Homecoming weekend all he wanted to do the rest of the week was sleep. He was being a good boy, no more girls. His focus was only on his schoolwork and his fraternity. Also, doing the work of the hotline.

As tired as he was from the weekend, others were getting burned out on school and there was an uptick with the calls. These kids were not just a little stressed out from college, they were in full depression mode.

"Soooo...you won't tell my business all over the school?"

"No, how can I? You don't use your name I won't use mine."

"What if you recognize my voice?"

"I'm good, but I'm not that good. So tell me what's up? You doing okay?"

"I just had a threesome after the homecoming dance with two guys I don't know.

Damn! He missed out on the action last weekend. Although, the only threesome he was interested in was him and two girls. That was only his first call. There were many calls with people having hookups with strangers and he didn't see anything wrong with that. It was just sex. It was only taboo if others knew what you were doing. Everyone was having sex, so long as it was consensual it was not a reason to be depressed.

"Here is what you do. Go get tested, run the slew of STD and STI tests, and wait for all results before you engage in sex with someone else. Always use protection if you don't know that person and that they are okay. And the morning-after pill if you are not on birth control. Don't let anyone think you did something wrong."

This is what he told all the callers, all being females, because of course none of the guys cared they had one-night stands. Then he did get a call from a guy that had him rethink life.

"Man, I fucked up."

"What happened? It's okay, talk to me."

"My girlfriend, I fucked things up."

"Hey, everybody was getting lit last weekend. If you had a one-night stand with a girl, just man up and confess that. Believe me, I understand."

"It wasn't last weekend."

"Oh, okay, tell me. Whatever you say to me will not get out there to anyone else."

"I love my girlfriend. She's perfect for me. We've always been so happy and everything was great with us. I transferred schools so that I can be here with her. I just wanted everything to work out so we could be a family."

"Okay."

"But...I should have known it was too good to be true. Now it might be over and I just want to kill myself." The guy broke down in tears.

Whoa! Suicidal on the line. He had a few calls like this, and though he was not qualified for this, he was going to try his best for now and refer him to the proper people to call.

"Your life means so much more than a random hookup. Explain to your girl that it was a mistake, how you feel about her, that it will never happen again, and work through it. Sweet talk her, beg, buy her gifts, do whatever you need to do to make it right."

"She's not that type of girl that will fall for that. If I can't be with her man....and my daughter....I'll just..."

"Whoa! You guys have a kid? That changes everything."

"How?"

"What do you mean how? You have a responsibility now, a whole life to take care of. Doing something where you are not there for your daughter is a little drastic." This was getting to be too much for him and he did not want to say the wrong thing. "Let me give you some numbers to call. Talk with them, but if you need to call me back man, you can talk to me anytime. And my name is Brian, you deserve to know who I am."

"Thanks, Brian. I love my girl, I do. I never should have done this."

He should have let this caller go, but he wanted to know more. He did not know how he could help him when he was a constant cheater himself.

"Can you tell me why did you do it? If you love your girl, you have a kid together...why?" He needed to understand for himself.

"Honestly? Because I wanted to get her attention."

He was confused by this but intrigued. That was not the reason he stepped out on J'Nae.

"And did you get it?"

"Yes, but now I can lose her. She was doing some of everything for everyone else and I was nothing more than just there. No attention at all. And I know that's fucked up, because she has school, taking care of our baby, pursuing her dreams...selfish, huh? That makes me a bad person. I wasn't thinking. I knew this other girl liked me and I liked the attention."

He definitely could relate. The girls gave him the attention he had not had when he was younger and nerdier in high school. Being younger than everyone else, and always the smartest in the room, he was no one's catch till about senior year. Then he got the attention he craved, from girls, even though they all knew he was with J'Nae. That's when he started sneaking around with those other girls.

It was never about J'Nae being cool with him seeing other girls. He made that up in his head because it made him feel better. What if all his cheating made him lose her? Would it all be worth it?

No, because he truly loved J'Nae and wanted to be with her forever. He felt like this guy was in the same boat.

"One time slip up my guy. Tell everything you've said to me to her. If it is meant to be it will be. But stick around and raise your daughter no matter what. I know you got this man, you got this."

"Thanks, man, I feel better already."

"Aye, still call that number and talk to someone, okay?"

After that call, he took a break from the hotline. He was so grateful they offered that to students and they could call. It seemed to help him a bit. Life was more than sex.

He had a great girl that loved him.

He called J'Nae up, checking the time, knowing she was in class herself. He was happy that she picked up.

"Hey, Brian."

"Sorry, you're in class, but-"

"No, actually the professor let us out early so I'm hanging with friends. What's up?"

"I just want to apologize again for what I did."

"Brian, we moved on from that. I don't want to hear-"

"No babe, I'm going to keep apologizing for what I did. I hurt you. I know you have forgiven me, but you probably won't forget it. And you lost some trust in me and I have to earn it back."

She did not say anything for a moment and he thought she was going to tell him it was over.

"I'm coming to visit next weekend. Fall break here. You can make it all up to me then."

He smiled. Indeed he would.

Late that night while relaxing watching Netflix, something he rarely did, Taj came home with Daysha with him. He had not hooked up with her in a minute. Between her pledging and him trying to be on his best behavior, he had not thought to call her up for a link up.

"Yo, B-man!" she yelled out when she saw him.

"Hey girl, what are you doing over here?"

"Hiding out. I had a rough few days fro, what's up with you?" She pushed him down on the couch so she could sit next to him, kicking her feet up on the coffee table.

He was not going to lie. He found Daysha sexy and she always gave off much sexual energy, This was a test for him. He knew he could resist her.

"You two better not start," Taj said, off in the kitchen going through cabinets.

"What?" Daysha said with a chuckle, leaning her warm body over to his, putting an arm around his neck. She whispered in his ear. "I need some."

Damn, she was going to get him in trouble just like that. He was stronger than that, he could resist.

He pulled her arm from him and stood up. "I'm heading to bed actually. I have an early class tomorrow. Y'all don't be too loud out here, a mother fucker needs his sleep."

"Boooo!" Daysha yelled after him, but he was pleased with himself.

He resisted temptation and stayed faithful to his girl. He could do this.

A/N: So y'all know that call was from Patrick from Sister Friends, right? I still do not know how I am going to fix their relationship, but I tried to make Brian helpful, and in turn, he realize he needs to stop what he is doing to his girlfriend.

We shall see if that all sticks.
