Chapter XI: Assault on Beacon
A/N: I managed to get switched into an online class instead of having to attend my Friday lectures, thus giving me a three day weekend. As a special thank you for being so patient, I present you with THREE new chapters to the Reader x Blake Belladonna story. As always, thank you so much for your continued support, and please help me share this story with others. I love you all so much. -ASWW
Sitting close to the front of the bleachers, you watched with anticipation as the match between Pyrrha Nikos and Penny Polendina was about to begin. As of so far, there had been nothing to cause you concern. Still, you were on high alert. As the tournament was coming to a close it was unlikely the peace would last much longer. You sat on the edge of your seat as you listened to the commentary describing the match when two things happened very suddenly. First, you felt a large spike in negative energy coming from somewhere across the crowd on the other side of the arena. Second, your ears picked up the sound of fighting coming from a corridor leading into the transport bays for the medical units. You stood up as you heard the sound of Mercury Black's voice taunting Ruby, Blake's teammate. Standing frozen as your mind moved at a million miles per hour, you came to the following conclusion; Mercury Black was currently present in the facility, even though he should be recovering from a broken leg. Not only this, but he was in fighting conditions. Next was that the sudden spike in negative energy meant that something was about to happen, and you could determine that that something had to be taking place center stage, where everyone could see. If Mercury was fighting Ruby away from prying eyes, he clearly wasn't the instigator, simply a distraction. This left only one possibility, center stage, quite literally, in full view of thousands of spectators and even more at home.
Jumping over the barrier and into the stage, you heard a collective gasp from the crowd. As you ran towards the stage you heard the shifting of metal and the twang of wires being manipulated by Pyrrha's semblance. You taste the copper and steel shift and feel the wind change as Pyrrha sends Penny's blades flying back in her direction. Jumping onto the platform, you pull out your Ōdachi and just barely manage to sever the wires connecting Penny's blades to the unit on her back. If you hadn't, the wires would have cut her clean in half.
Cinder's POV:
Dammit! Who is that? Whoever he is he just ruined my plans. Pulling out my scroll I quickly call up Emerald.
"Emerald! What just happened?" I shout angrily.
"I don't know ma'am. Some guy just ran out into the middle of the stage and stopped the fight."
Looking back to the screen I pause the television as the cameras zoom in on the man's face. It looks like, but no, it can't be. It almost looks like (F/N) Taurus. Dammit, it is! I thought Adam said he killed him. Never trust a man to do a woman's job.
"Ma'am? Ma'am?" Emerald's voice echoes from my scroll.
"What?" I bark at her.
"What do we do now?"
"The plan hasn't changed." I say, regaining my composure. "Simply, the means of initiating it have varied slightly. You are to meet me at the rendezvous point as agreed."
With that, I hang up and quickly dial Mercury.
"'Sup?" He asks.
"Mercury, there's been a change of plans."
Reader's POV:
Your senses are somewhat overwhelmed as cameras fly in front of your face and Atlesian soldiers begin to surround you. The crowd is nothing but a vast see of confusion. You feel someone grab your shoulder and another try to put you in handcuffs when suddenly a loud boom echoes throughout the stadium. It's quickly followed by another, and another, multiple explosions sounding off all around the stadium. The heat of the resulting fires grows stronger as the flames threaten to spill out of the corridors and into the seated crowd. Screams echo throughout the air as people try to scramble over each other in a mad dash for the exits. The Atlasian soldiers release you and scatter, some moving to investigate the source of the explosions, others going to help direct the crowd. You can feel the dread rising in the air, and where there's fear, there's bound to be...
BOOM!
The screams in the crowd grow louder as a giant Nevermore lands on top of the energy barrier separating the outside world from the arena. Panic rises and people increase their efforts to escape. You hear the Nevermore's giant beak pecking at the barrier while a flock of Griffins accompany it. Beyond the screams of terror and the scent of billowing smoke, you hear footsteps approaching as students of Beacon, Haven, Shade, and Atlas all gather in the center of the stage.
"What's going on?" Jaune asks, voice thick with fear.
"What I warned you about." You say. Turning to face the gathered students you state very loudly and clearly. "Beacon is under siege from outside forces. That dome won't hold for much longer, and when it collapses, you all need to be prepared for the fight of your lives. Grab your weapons and get ready!"
"What about the crowd?" Someone asks.
"The citizens should be our primary concern." You tell him. "But to ensure their safe escape, we have to keep these Grimm at bay."
The Nevermore continues to peck away at the dome which you know will soon shatter. Suddenly, the sound of nearby screams reach your ear, coming from the exit platforms. Turning your head in the direction of the sound, you mumble under your breath to yourself. "There's trouble." You rush off in the direction of the commotion to see what's going on.
"Hey, where are you going?" Nora calls after you.
Ignoring her, you make it to the corridors leading to the exit just as the Nevermore shatters through the dome. The student's have that covered, you need to provide protection for the innocent bystanders. Running down the halls and turning a few corners you make it to the loading bay. You hear gunfire and the sound of Grimm. They flew them in on airships. You think to yourself. Placing your hand on the handle of your blade, you wait until you hear a pack of three Beowolves lunge at you. With one fluid motion you draw your Ōdachi and cut them through the middle, their corpses fading to black dust. Gripping under the hilt with both hands, you hear an Ursa growl from behind. Feeling its breath on your neck, you drop to one knee, just barely avoiding a swipe of its claws. Kicking its hind legs out from underneath it, you jump up and knee its falling head, spinning in a circle and severing its head cleanly from its body. More Grimm continue to be unloaded from the ships. Replacing Blood in Dream, you convert your sword into its rifle form, bayonet protruding from the end, and fire rapid but accurate burst fire shots at the approaching beasts. Side stepping a lunging Beowold, you stab it in the back of its head with your bayonet, rolling over its disintegrating figure, and continuing to fire at the creatures.
Finally, the last of the evacuation ships have exited the arena, leaving you, a handful of Atlas soldiers, and General Ironwood against a horde of Grimm. The soldiers begin picking off the smaller creatures, but you and Ironwood are more focused on the final ship arriving. Its hanger doors opening, from out of the Bullhead step two Alpha Beowolves. Under cover of the soldiers' fire, you and the General run at the creatures. Sliding between one's legs, you get back to your feet and fire at its back, its thick armor protecting it from the bullets. Clearly, your AR-15 isn't going to be of much use. Jumping back from a swipe of its claws, you convert your rifle back into its sword form. Holding your blade on your hip, you push your Ōdachi out of its scabbard with you thumb, sending it flying at the Alpha, the pommel hitting it square in the face. Rushing forwards, you grab Bloom in a reverse grip before it hits the ground, swinging your arm across your body and slashing the Beowolf across the chest. Growling in pain, the creature lunges at you. Dropping onto your back, you place your feet on its hips and launch it over your head and off the side of the arena.
It seems the battle never ends however, as a large explosion from one of Atlas' main airships sounds overhead while sounds coming from Beacon grow louder.
"Blake." You say in concern. Last you had checked, she and Weiss were still at the school. Without hesitation you jump off the side of the arena. Fortunately, you timed your exit so that you landed on the back of one of the encircling Griffins. Pulling hard on its wings, you force it to fly downwards. Doing your best to avoid its beak as it tries to rid you off its back, you fly the creature headfirst into the ground just outside Beacon's cafeteria. The situation on the ground is very similar to that up above. Fires, panic, and Grimm running amuck. The difference on the ground situation however, is that White Fang members have flooded the grounds and are firing at fleeing students. Coming up behind two members, you grab the sides of their heads and slam them together, knocking both of them unconscious. Sniffing the air, you track Blake's scent coming from inside the cafeteria, accompanied by another individual's. The second scent fills you with dread. It smells of leather and blood, it smells of your brother. As you run towards the burning building you can hear your brother's voice.
"This could have been our day! Can't you see that?" He shouts. As the soundwaves bounce of the wall you can hear them distort around Blake and Adam's figures.
"I never wanted this!" Blake shouts back from the ground. "I wanted equality! I wanted peace!" You hear Blake fire a few rounds at your brother, but he simply blocks them with his Chokúto.
"What you want, is impossible!" He shouts back. You hear the back of his hand make contact with Blake's face, knocking her to the ground. Enraged, you push yourself even harder, forcing yourself to get to Blake faster. "But I understand, because all I want, is you Blake." He kicks Gambol Shroud from her hand. "And as I set out upon this world and deliver the justice mankind so greatly deserves, I will make it my mission to destroy everything you love."
Jumping over a pile of rubble left by a hole in the wall, you regain your composure as you prepare to face your brother as an enemy for the first time. "Adam!" You shout.
Your brother turns his head in surprise at hearing your face. Abandoning Blake, he rises to his feet and faces you. "(F/N)?" He says in shock. "I thought I killed you."
"And for what?" You snarl. "Because I wouldn't follow you down this path? Look around you brother! You aren't delivering justice, you're just satisfying your vengeance!"
"Sometimes they're the same thing!" He argues.
"They are never the same! But you are. You always have been. Always cold, always calculated. And always so full of rage."
"Enough with the lectures brother."
"Listen to yourself! Has our past meant nothing to you? Did I mean nothing to you?"
"You meant everything to me!" He screams. "Can you imagine how pained I was when you refused to stand by me?"
"Don't try to pin this on me. You're the monster here, not I. Are you even sorry for having tried to kill your own brother?"
"Yes. I am sorry." He says. "Sorry I didn't do it properly!"
In a flash he draws Wilt from its scabbard and dashes forwards. You just barely manage to draw Bloom in time to block him.
"Tell me brother," he says as your blades clash, "how did you survive your wounds?"
The two of you push each other back and slide away from each other a few feet. "I almost didn't. But I seared the wound shut with my blade."
The two of you begin circling each other, swords at the ready. "I'm impressed (F/N). You truly are stronger than Atlesian steel."
"And you're weaker than the humans." You say because you know it will enrage him.
Shouting in anger, he dashes towards you, blade ready to pierce through your chest. Converting Bloom into its shield form, you block his strike. Quickly switching back to your Ōdachi, you push his blade to the side and kick him in the stomach. Stumbling backwards, he swings his Chokúto around and hits you in the side of the head with the heel of his blade.
"I'm weak?" He snarls. "Look around brother. I'm not the one fleeing like filthy sewer rats."
"No, you're just the piece of shit they're running from."
Your steel clashes again, sending sparks flying. Adam drops onto one knee and tries to sweep your leg out from under you. You counter by dive rolling over his crouched figure.
"I'm curious brother." He says as the two of you resume your circling. "Didn't I relieve you of your eyesight?"
"You did."
He chuckles. "So, tell me, how are you able to fight when all you can see is darkness?"
"To be honest, it's refreshing. Without my sight I cannot be blinded by your lies."
"Speak plainly brother. How have you managed to survive this long without your sight?"
"I have other senses brother. And with the help of Professor Ozpin, they have been enhanced. I now see more clearly than ever before."
"So, you made a deal with the headmaster?" He spits. "Dealing with the humans. What ever happened to you? You used to be nothing but fire."
"Test me brother, you will find my fire has not yet died."
For the third time your blades meet. First you come with a diagonal downward cut which he counters. Next you try to slice upwards at an angle which he parries. Adam moves to strike from overhead, but you spin around his arm and cut upwards. Your brother screams in pain as you sever his hand from his wrist. His still clenched fist falls to the ground along with Wilt. Clutching his now bleeding stump, Adam beings to back away.
"I warned you brother." You remind him as you walk towards him. "This path would only lead to destruction."
"You're right." He snarls. "But yours or mine, that remains to be seen."
He turns and begins to run. You're about to give chase but are cut off by a large Ursa. By the time you manage to dispatch of the Grimm your brother has already slipped away into the shadows. You could follow him, of course, but you have more pressing issues to worry about. Abandoning his trail, you turn and hurry back to Blake who's still on the ground, huddled up against one of the up turned tables.
Dropping to your knees next to her you tenderly take her hands in your own. "Blake? Are you okay? Did he hurt you?"
"I'm fine." She assures you. "Just a little shaken is all. It's just, it's been a while since I saw Adam."
"Yeah, I know the feeling." You say darkly. "Probably better that way though."
Helping Blake to her feet, the two of you exit the building. Off in the distance you hear a huddle of students gathered in the courtyard. Together, you two make your way to the group.
"Blake!" Yang shouts. You hear her run towards Blake and tackle her into a hug. "Thank God you're okay."
"Are you hurt?" Weiss asks.
"No, I'm fine." She tells her teammates. "Thanks to (F/N) here I wasn't injured."
"Thanks to (F/N) no one was injured."
You turn your head in the direction of the voiceaccompanied by a 'click' against the ground with every alternating step.Professor Ozpin approaches the group accompanied by Ruby, Jaune, and Pyrrha
