CHAPTER TWELVE: the ties that binds

BONNIE BENNETT LEAD THE TWO GILBERTS INTO THE OLD WITCH HOUSE.
"I've been having these dreams for days now. It's like the witches are trying to send me a message." Bonnie explained to the twins.

"I just can't believe that you guys kept this from us this whole time," Elena says.

"Stefan thought, if you knew where the coffins were, Klaus could threaten people to get the information out of you."

"So, these are the rest of his family?" Jensen asked.

"Yeah. Elijah and two others. This one..." she walks over to the large coffin. "is the one we can't open. We don't know who is in it, or whats in it, only that I think my dream's telling me it'll help us kill Klaus."

Jensen walked over to the smaller ones, opening one.

"Jensen!" Bonnie scolded.

"What?" Jensen questioned, looking down. It was a man, with long hair.

"What the hell are you doing?" Stefan asked upon entering the room.

"I needed them to know about the coffin."

"And I needed you to keep them out of it, Bonnie."

"So what are you gonna do, Stefan? Are you gonna kidnap me, so that I won't tell anyone?" Elena asked.

"Don't tempt me, Elena."

Jensen stated to search his pockets for the pencils he used to keep on him.

"I think I know, who can open the coffin, Stefan. And I need Elena and Jensen to help me find her." Bonnie speaks.

"Find who? What are you talking about?"

"I couldn't place her face at first. Then I realized..."  Bonnie pulls a photo out of her pocket and shows the twins.

"Oh my god, Bonnie."

Stefan looks at the photo.  "Who is this?"

"A bitch," Jensen muttered.

"It's my mom." Bonnie says.

*•.¸ b̵̸͙̅̽͡ͅr̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ȍ̸̢̢̮͚̐̚t̴͕͖͓̀h̶̯̰̝̻̿̓͢ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ă̶̸̝ͦ͊̿͋͞n̷̶̯͉̊̽̐ͦ͘d̸̡̩͍̔ͥ͜ s̩͙͖̋͛͟i̵͓͙̱͚̎͟s̩͙͖̋͛͟t̴͕͖͓̀ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ¸.•*

Bonnie, Jensen and  Elena are searching through a pile of driver license records for Bonnie's mother Abby. They're looking through the records of everyone who is named Abby Bennett.

"Los Alamitos?" Elena gives Bonnie the record for a woman named Abby Bennett Wilson.

Bonnie sighed. "Too old."

"Honolulu?" Jensen asked, handing another paper.

"I wish. How many of these are there?"

"Abby is an extremely common name," Jensen points out.

Elena nodded. "A lot. I asked the sheriff's office to pull up every single Abby Bennett in the country."

"I know we haven't been able to really...that things had been weird, because of Jeremy, so, thank you for helping me with this. I know you have a lot to deal with."

"There's nothing more important, Bonnie." Elena told her.

"It's surreal. Having to track down a woman, who bailed on her own kid."

"You know, you don't have to, right? Let Stefan obsess over opening up the coffin. It doesn't have to fall on you."

"The coffin is spell shut. That makes it a witch problem. So it does fall on me. I was bound to see my mother again sooner or later."

Jensen huffed in annoyance when Damon entered, but then he noticed how the vampire was holding a manilla folder in his hand. "Sooner. Abby Bennett Wilson, Monroe, North Carolina. Born in Mystic Falls Hospital, graduated at Mystic Falls High...blah blah blah."
Damon hands Bonnie the folder and she opens it and looks at the driver's license record. "A little compulsion helps sped up the research process."

"This is her." Bonnie confirmed.

"Guess you are useful," Jensen tells Damon.

Damon rolled his eyes. "Yep. Unlike you. Road trip. I call shotgun."

"Yea-No." Elena tells the vampire.

Damon smiled down at Elena. "Want me to hang out in the back with you?"

"You're not coming, Damon."

"Why? I'm the one who found her."

"Okay, Damon. Look. Bonnie hasn't seen her mom in over fifteen years. We don't need your snarky commentary narrating the experience."

Damon and Elena look at each other for a long time. Bonnie raised an eyebrow at Jensen, who shrugged, waving a hand around.

"What's going on with you two?" Bonnie asked.

"We kissed. Now it's weird. Have a great trip."Damon leaves. Bonnie looks surprised at Elena. Elena is lost for words.

"You kissed him?!"

*•.¸ b̵̸͙̅̽͡ͅr̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ȍ̸̢̢̮͚̐̚t̴͕͖͓̀h̶̯̰̝̻̿̓͢ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ă̶̸̝ͦ͊̿͋͞n̷̶̯͉̊̽̐ͦ͘d̸̡̩͍̔ͥ͜ s̩͙͖̋͛͟i̵͓͙̱͚̎͟s̩͙͖̋͛͟t̴͕͖͓̀ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ¸.•*

Jensen had been sitting in the backseat.

"I just can't believe that I'm actually going to see her. Or meet her. Sort of. Since I don't really remember her." Bonnie speaks.

"You don't really talk about her." Elena replied.

"What's to say? She left, never wrote, never called. Not even when my Grams died. Could we talk about you and Damon instead?"

"I'm not talking about it. He kissed me. It's not gonna happen again."

"I mean...was it good?"

"Gross." Jensen says. "No one what's to hear about how you kissed Damon."

"He kissed me." Elena replied. "Anyway,It doesn't matter."

"That means it was." Bonnie's mobile phone rings. "Oh...It's Stefan. I told him I'd call him as soon as I got the address."

"Ignore him. Bonnie, your about to see your mom for the first time in 15 years. I'm not letting anyone ruin that moment."

"Plus, not like you don't have a reason. Just say you didn't want to hear his annoying ass bullshit." Jensen says

"Yeah, but he's gonna keep at it until I pick up."

"Fine." Elena picks up. "What?" A pause. "Bonnie , Jensen and I are gonna spend the night at the lake house, while we wait for Sheriff Forbes to give us new addresses."

"No, Stefan, I'm not. We need a night off from your insanity."  Elena says. "Well, we're doing everything we can. So, could you maybe not call every five minutes?"

She then hangs up.

*•.¸ b̵̸͙̅̽͡ͅr̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ȍ̸̢̢̮͚̐̚t̴͕͖͓̀h̶̯̰̝̻̿̓͢ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ă̶̸̝ͦ͊̿͋͞n̷̶̯͉̊̽̐ͦ͘d̸̡̩͍̔ͥ͜ s̩͙͖̋͛͟i̵͓͙̱͚̎͟s̩͙͖̋͛͟t̴͕͖͓̀ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ¸.•*

They had arrived at the address.  They double checked before exiting the car.

"Cute house," Elena commented.

"Yeah, in the middle of nowhere." Bonnie says.

"You ready?"

They get out of the car and ring the doorbell. A teenage boy comes up the stairs beside them. "Hey, there."

Elena looks back at the house, then back at the boy. "Hey, we're looking for, um, Abby Wilson."

"She not home. There anything I can do for you?" The boy replied.

"It's okay, we can come back," Bonnie starts to walk away, but Elena grabs her arm and ushers her back.

"I'm sorry, but you look so familiar." The boy says.

Bonnie hums. "Ehm, Abby is my mom."

"Oh...I'm Jamie. You guys wanna come inside? Right this way." Jamie greets.

"Jensen," The doopleganger introduced himself, reaching out and extending his hand to the other.
Jamie shook his hand.

*•.¸ b̵̸͙̅̽͡ͅr̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ȍ̸̢̢̮͚̐̚t̴͕͖͓̀h̶̯̰̝̻̿̓͢ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ă̶̸̝ͦ͊̿͋͞n̷̶̯͉̊̽̐ͦ͘d̸̡̩͍̔ͥ͜ s̩͙͖̋͛͟i̵͓͙̱͚̎͟s̩͙͖̋͛͟t̴͕͖͓̀ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ¸.•*

Jamie had lead the three to the kitchen, telling them to sit at the dinning room table. "You guys sure you don't want anything? We got fresh OJ, coconut water, some mango guava something."

"Water is fine." Bonnie answered.

Jamie nodded, walking to get the glasses. "Cool."

"So, are we...like related?"

"Oh, nah. Abby's not my mom."

Elena looks to Bonnie. "Oh, good."

"Yeah, she dated my old man back in the day. He's kind of a deadbeat, so when they broke up she took me in. Put me through school. Didn't freak out when I totalled her car. Twice."

Jensen laughed, seeing how nervous the other was. He hoped that he knew Jensen was laughing at the joke, and not him.

"She sounds...great." Bonnie smiled.

"Jamie? Whose car's out front?" The woman in question walked in, losing the door.

"That's mine." Bonnie spoke softly. "I'm Bonnie. Your daughter."

Abby sighs, an odd look on her face. "Hello, Bonnie."

*•.¸ b̵̸͙̅̽͡ͅr̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ȍ̸̢̢̮͚̐̚t̴͕͖͓̀h̶̯̰̝̻̿̓͢ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ă̶̸̝ͦ͊̿͋͞n̷̶̯͉̊̽̐ͦ͘d̸̡̩͍̔ͥ͜ s̩͙͖̋͛͟i̵͓͙̱͚̎͟s̩͙͖̋͛͟t̴͕͖͓̀ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ¸.•*

Bonnie is holding a picture of Jamie dressed in a graduation gown in her hands.

"How are you holding up?" Elena asked.

"I'll be fine. I'm not here to get my mom back, I'm just here to get her help." Bonnie says, putting the frame down.

Abby comes walking in from the kitchen. "So I hope you guys are hungry, cause...food has always been my go-to ice-breaker."

Jensen hummed.

"You have a really beautiful home," Elena speaks over, glancing at Jensen she makes a slight gesture. She knew when her brother was going to say something that he shouldn't say-especially when they are trying to get her help-.

"You're so sweet. Just like your mom."

Birth or actual mother? Jensen thought.

"You knew our mom?" Elena asked, gesturing to herself and Jensen.

"Miranda was my best friend."

"So, you had a daughter and a best friend and you still left?" Bonnie asked.

"My best friend is why I left. Fifteen years ago a vampire came to town. Looking for you, Elena, Jensen. Looking for the doppelgängers. No one could manage to kill him. So I lured him out of town and cast a spell to desiccate him in a crypt in Charlotte."

"Mikael. He was an Original vampire," Elena says.

"It took every ounce of power I had. Almost killed me. I recovered. But my magic didn't. My powers never came back."

"And neither did you," Bonnie spoke.

"It wasn't that simple."

"It wasn't? You cast a spell, put Mikael down and then...what? You had to teach Jamie how to drive?"

"Bonnie..." Elena started.

"This was a mistake. She has no magic. She can't help us." Bonnie is starting to leave, but Abby run after her and grabs her arm.]

"Bonnie, wait, please. Don't go. Talk to me...Please?"

Jensen was close by, incase she lied about not having powers, in case she hurt Bonnie.

"I'll wait outside." Elena leaves, pulling Jensen along with her.

Outside the house, Elena goes to a derelict barn. They turn back, hearing a sound. Suddenly Stefan is standing in front of them. "Hi, Elena, Jensen. Nice lake house."

*•.¸ b̵̸͙̅̽͡ͅr̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ȍ̸̢̢̮͚̐̚t̴͕͖͓̀h̶̯̰̝̻̿̓͢ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ă̶̸̝ͦ͊̿͋͞n̷̶̯͉̊̽̐ͦ͘d̸̡̩͍̔ͥ͜ s̩͙͖̋͛͟i̵͓͙̱͚̎͟s̩͙͖̋͛͟t̴͕͖͓̀ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ¸.•*

"So, what did you think, I wouldn't find out?" Stefan asked the two.

"Honestly, I didn't care." Elena tells him.
Jensen made a gesture with his hand. "And you suddenly care?"

"This is exactly why I didn't want you two in the loop." Stefan says.

"Yeah, because now you can't do whatever you want." Elena replied.

Stefan kicks a chair and breaks it. "Damn it!"

Jamie enters the barn. "Hey! Everything all right out here?"

"Hey, Jamie, go back inside, okay? Please, trust me, it's better off for you there," Elena says.

"We've got it handled," Jensen tells him.

"I don't think so."  Jamie walks towards Stefan.

"I'd listen to them. Get back upstairs, man." Stefan says.

Jensen reached for Jamie going to pull him back.

"I said, I don't think so."

Stefan grabs him by the throat and compels him. "Go back upstairs, before I tear your damn throat out. Do you understand me?" Stefan lets go of him. Jamie walks away.

"I don't think you've realized how bad you've gotten!" Elena tells the vampire.

"It's the way it has to be, Elena."

"Oh, yeah, right. Out-villain the villain. I get it."

Jamie comes back with a shotgun. "You're not supposed to be here."

"Jamie, what are you doing?" Elena asked.

"What I was told. He's not supposed to be here."

"Elena, he's compelled." Stefan informed.

Jamie shoots Stefan. Stefan falls on the ground on his back.

"Holy shit!" Jensen cursed, pulling Elena behind him.

*•.¸ b̵̸͙̅̽͡ͅr̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ȍ̸̢̢̮͚̐̚t̴͕͖͓̀h̶̯̰̝̻̿̓͢ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ă̶̸̝ͦ͊̿͋͞n̷̶̯͉̊̽̐ͦ͘d̸̡̩͍̔ͥ͜ s̩͙͖̋͛͟i̵͓͙̱͚̎͟s̩͙͖̋͛͟t̴͕͖͓̀ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ¸.•*

Jensen had gotten a few hits on Jamie when he had reached for Elena. Elena yelled in panic when Jamie went to hit Jensen, pulling him back. "Don't hurt him!"

*•.¸ b̵̸͙̅̽͡ͅr̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ȍ̸̢̢̮͚̐̚t̴͕͖͓̀h̶̯̰̝̻̿̓͢ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ă̶̸̝ͦ͊̿͋͞n̷̶̯͉̊̽̐ͦ͘d̸̡̩͍̔ͥ͜ s̩͙͖̋͛͟i̵͓͙̱͚̎͟s̩͙͖̋͛͟t̴͕͖͓̀ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ¸.•*

Jensen groaned, Jamie had hit Jensen's arm, hard. But, clearly it was a movement to not actually hurt him. "God, this gets so boring after a while. Ow," Jensen winced.

Jamie is tying Elena's hands behind her to a post and Stefan is lying on the ground, groaning in pain.

"Why are you doing this?" Elena asked.

"Stop moving,"  Jamie ordered.

"Jamie, let me go. Jamie, they need help!" Elena looked at Stefan, who was withering on the ground in pain and Jensen, who was bleeding from his forehead.

"Jamie!" Abby yelled out.

"Bonnie?" Elena questioned, making Jensen look up. They watch as Abby pulling an unconscious Bonnie near a car. "Bonnie!"

Jamie runs to her while holding the shotgun and helps her load Bonnie into the back seat of the car. Elena and Jensen struggle to get out of the ropes.

*•.¸ b̵̸͙̅̽͡ͅr̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ȍ̸̢̢̮͚̐̚t̴͕͖͓̀h̶̯̰̝̻̿̓͢ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ă̶̸̝ͦ͊̿͋͞n̷̶̯͉̊̽̐ͦ͘d̸̡̩͍̔ͥ͜ s̩͙͖̋͛͟i̵͓͙̱͚̎͟s̩͙͖̋͛͟t̴͕͖͓̀ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ¸.•*

Jensen was moving his hands up and down, slowly cutting the rope that has his wrist tied together.

"I've almost got it," Elena says.

Elena was doing it as well, both stopped when they had seen Jamie returning.  Stefan was lying on the ground, in pain.

Jensen immediately stoped the movement.

"Abby hasn't called yet," Jamie announced.

"Jamie, please, just let us go." Elena begged.

Jamie suddenly cocks his gun. "No! Please don't do anything. Look, I don't know why I shot him, I don't know why I'm holding this gun, but if you move or do anything, I'ma shoot him again."

"Okay, I won't. Who gave you that gun?" Elena asked.

"A man came by earlier today, he gave me a wooden buckshot and told me if anyone got in our way, I'm supposed to shoot him."

"What else did he say?" Jensen asked.

"If Abby didn't find the location of some coffins, I'm supposed to shoot myself."

"What about us? What did he say about us?" Elena asked next.

"I'm not supposed to hurt you." Jamie looked between the two.

"Are you sure? Because these ropes are so tight, that it is hurting me."

Jamie walks toward Elena concerned. Elena suddenly releases herself, grabs the gun from Jamie and knocks him out with the butt. Jensen broke through the ropes, rolling his shoulder. Elena rushes over to Stefan.

"What can I do to help?"

"Every time I move, the wood shifts inside of me. I can feel it scraping against my heart. You need to get the pieces out."

Elena nods and begins to take out the wood pieces. Jensen helps, holding whatever part of Stefan that moved down.

*•.¸ b̵̸͙̅̽͡ͅr̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ȍ̸̢̢̮͚̐̚t̴͕͖͓̀h̶̯̰̝̻̿̓͢ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ă̶̸̝ͦ͊̿͋͞n̷̶̯͉̊̽̐ͦ͘d̸̡̩͍̔ͥ͜ s̩͙͖̋͛͟i̵͓͙̱͚̎͟s̩͙͖̋͛͟t̴͕͖͓̀ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ¸.•*

Elena is still pulling the wooden pieces out from Stefan's chest at the barn, but he keeps screaming, so she stops. Jensen keeps taking the pieces out.

"I'm just trying to help!" Elena reasoned with the vampire.

"Just get it out, Elena, please. Just get it out." Stefan has propped himself up

"Keep screaming, maybe I'll feel sorry for you. She tries again and finally gets it out.

Stefan stops crying in pain when Elena removed the piece. "You've changed. Something is different about you. You're stronger. Tougher."

"You're not the only one, who changed, Stefan. We all had to." Elena tells him.

"It's good though."

"There's something I have to tell you. And it's not because I feel guilty, that it happened. It's because I feel guilty, that you don't know." Elena says as Jensen kept removing the pieces of woods from Stefan. "I kissed Damon."

Stefan looks down, avoiding Elena's eyes. He's clearly upset. Elena seems to feel bad. She places the wooden pieces on Stefan's chest. "There. All done."

Stefan gets up without saying a word and walks away.

Jensen looked back at his sister. "Still can't believe you kissed Damon."

*•.¸ b̵̸͙̅̽͡ͅr̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ȍ̸̢̢̮͚̐̚t̴͕͖͓̀h̶̯̰̝̻̿̓͢ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ă̶̸̝ͦ͊̿͋͞n̷̶̯͉̊̽̐ͦ͘d̸̡̩͍̔ͥ͜ s̩͙͖̋͛͟i̵͓͙̱͚̎͟s̩͙͖̋͛͟t̴͕͖͓̀ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ¸.•*

Stefan is leaning against his car when Elena walks up to him from behind. "Stefan...say something. Please?"

Jensen stays a few steps away from the two.

"I shouldn't have kidnapped you two. The car, the bridge, that was too far." Stefan replied.

"Thank you."

"But you shouldn't have lied to me today. You can't go off and do things like that, Elena. Not while Klaus is still alive," Stefan says.

"I know. I just...I wanted to give Bonnie a moment with her mother...without everything else getting in the way."

"Without me getting in the way."

A moment of silence.

"I didn't plan on kissing him."

"You're better than him, Elena. You're better than both of us." Stefan then gets into his car, reverses out of the driveway.

*•.¸ b̵̸͙̅̽͡ͅr̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ȍ̸̢̢̮͚̐̚t̴͕͖͓̀h̶̯̰̝̻̿̓͢ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ă̶̸̝ͦ͊̿͋͞n̷̶̯͉̊̽̐ͦ͘d̸̡̩͍̔ͥ͜ s̩͙͖̋͛͟i̵͓͙̱͚̎͟s̩͙͖̋͛͟t̴͕͖͓̀ę̷̵̧̖̫̗̆̊r̶̷̲͍̭͐̾̀͟ ¸.•*

Jensen and Elena stop in their place when Alaric lifts his head, away from whoever he was kissing.

"Oh. Umm, hey, umm, sorry." Elena says.

"Sorry," Jensen looked away from the two.

"I'm gonna go." The woman says.

Alaric nods. "Okay, yeah, sure, sure, sure."

The woman leaves.

"Elena, Jensen, I'm sorry," the teacher spoke.

Elena lifts a hand to stop his apology. "Please, it's okay."

"It's not okay. I mean, it's not even my place. It's your place. It's Jenna's place. It's your family's place."

"The minute that you slept on that couch it became your place too. We needed you and...you stayed. So thank you for that. Hey, look, I know it's hard. But Jenna's gone. And you're allowed to move on."

Jensen gives the teacher a thumbs up, who laughs, shaking his head.
