Branch walked into his and Poppy's pod after a long day of work to find Poppy playing around with Rosie. "Dada! You're home!" Rosie squealed, running to her father. He smiled, scooping her into his arms, kissing her forehead tenderly. "That's right. I'm home." Poppy got up and embraced him as well. "Hey Branch. How was your day?" He shook his head. "Busy and extremely tiring. So basically normal." "Well, I hope it wasn't too busy, cause it's your turn to play with Rosie. I've already spent most of my energy running around with her. Now you gotta." Rosie giggled in agreement. "Yeah, Dada! Catch me!" With that, she took off. Poppy watched her run away into the hallway. "Good luck not getting tired while trying to catch her." He sighed, then ran after her, grabbing her in his arms once he caught up to her. He smiled, peppering her face in kisses, causing her to giggle and squeal softly. He brought her back to the living room where his wife was sitting on the sofa. "Wow, you actually managed to catch her that easily?" He shrugged. "Eh, I had to deal with your infinite energy for at least twenty years. I'm pretty sure I can handle a five-year-old." Just then, Poppy's phone rang. She looked at the message. "Dammit. I gotta go to some last minute meeting. Why didn't they tell me before?! Oh well. You think you can take care of Rosie while I'm gone?" "Well duh. What, you think I'm just gonna leave her here by herself?" She rolled her eyes. "Fair enough. Bye!" Waving a quick goodbye, she headed out, closing the door behind her.
Rosie came running back but stopped when she saw her mother was gone. "Dada? Where's Mama?" A frown crept across her lips, her face showing signs of confusion, sadness, and curiosity. "Oh, uh, Mama had to go to a meeting. Don't worry, she'll be back soon." Rosie's frown grew bigger. "So Mama left me here all alone with you? But I want Mama." "I did too, and that's how we got you." He muttered under his breath, before speaking in his normal voice. "She won't be gone for long. But in the meantime, let's do something. Something that will keep you entertained until she comes back. What do you wanna do?" Rosie thought for a moment, thinking of things that occupied until Poppy returned. "Dada, can I play with Gary?" He immediately shook his head no. "Ah, ah, ah! Gary's not a toy. He should only be used in emergencies and only by me. But if you want a brownie, then okay." "No. How about a story? I want a story!" She scrambled to the couch and sat down, patting the space next to her gesturing for him to sit down next to her. Branch shook his head. "A story? I don't know....haven't we already read all of then at least ten times. Why not something else?" She gave him a face that said, "Story, now." He obliged and sat her in his lap. "Alright. What story do you want me to tell?" "The story of how you and Mama saved everyone from the Bergens while Creek and the Chef died inside a monster thingy!" He laughed. "Yeah, I enjoyed that too. Okay. Well, it all started 6 years ago..."
"So when Mama and the Snack Pack couldn't think of anything to say, I decided to help. I recited a poem I wrote to help Bridget out. And it worked- King Gristle calmed down and started skating with her and us." Rosie looked up at him. "Did you love Mama, Dada?" He sighed. "Yes, with all my heart." "Since when?" Since she was born. I remember at first, she just seemed like a friend to me. But when I turned gray, she really changed my life. She would always make me scrapbooks and fill them with glitter so they would spit out glitter in my face. So as payback I would always crush them in front of her face." "Wow, Dada. That was really mean." He nodded. "Yeah, I know. And I regret all of it. I honestly don't know why she still loves me even after all I did to her. Anyways, back to the story. After the date, we went to save Creek the freak, only to discover that he was selling us out. So I started choking him, which led to your mother choking him as well. Heh, I enjoyed it. But I still wanted more choking time. So then he took Mama's cowbell and used it to bring the other Trolls right to the Bergens. Then everyone except him got thrown into a pot, and then-" He was suddenly cut off by a soft snore coming from below. Branch looked down to see Rosie sleeping peacefully on his chest. Oh. How'd she fallen asleep so easily? She was literally talking to me like a second ago! Eh, at least now I can relax a bit. Well, until Poppy comes back. Just as he was about to put her in her bed, the door opened and there stood Poppy.
Poppy was rather surprised by the silence. "She fell asleep? How?" "Well, a magical wizard came through the door and magically put a spell that made her fall asleep until he decides to wake her up." "So you were telling her a story and while listening she fell asleep. Cool." He rolled his eyes and put Rosie on her bed, gently covering her in the blanket. He then walked into the kitchen to find Poppy making herself a cup of coffee. "Um, Poppy? While I was telling Rosie the story of our adventure, a thought occurred to me: back when I was gray, did you hate me? "Well, I didn't exactly hate you, I was just annoyed by you at times. But I did hate you a little every time you destroyed my invitations and ruined parties warning us about the Bergens, even if you turned out to be right." He smiled, gripping her tightly in his arms and pecking her temple sweetly. "I'm glad I was so paranoid about the Bergens in the past. If I wasn't, we wouldn't have had our adventure. You would have been spider food, the Snack Pack would have been trapped in the belly of a beast, and I'd still be gray. You wanna watch a movie while we wait for something else to happen?" "Okay. What about The Fault in Our Stars? I've heard it's pretty good." "Alright. I'll get the popcorn, you put on the movie." Branch quickly heated up a bag of popcorn, added butter, and sneaking something in his pocket while Poppy put on the movie.
Once they got everything ready and the movie began, they settled in with a few blankets and snacks. Midway through the movie, Branch looked down to see Poppy looking up at him. "What?" She shook her head. "I don't know. I was just thinking about what you asked me earlier." "Oh yeah. What about it?" She climbed into his lap, nuzzling her head in his chest. "I remember that when I was on my way to Bergen Town, I was wondering how long you'd last with the whole village in your bunker. But when I got tangled in those spider webs, I was losing hope and thought you just kicked the village out and stayed in there by yourself." "You actually thought I would so that? Sure I was salty, but that doesn't mean I didn't care. I did. I remember that I once read that the person who pretends not to care is someone who cares the most. Why else did you think I kept warning you about the Bergens? Because I didn't want you to end up the same way my grandma did. I felt that I needed to do something to help with your survival. And it turns out it paid off. Am I right or am I right?" He expected a roll from her eyes and/or a playful shove, but the only thing he heard was a small snore. Branch looked down to see Poppy peacefully sleeping on his chest. I swear, why does everyone fall asleep whenever I'm talking? Oh well. It is kinda late. He gently picked her up bridal style and took her to their room, softly placing her on the bed, only to have her wake up immediately.
"Oh sorry. Did I wake you up?" She shook her head. "Nah. I wasn't really asleep. I just wanted you to think I was so you would carry me to our room." "Wow, you're that lazy? Well then, how about I actually make you?" Before she could answer, he began wildly sucking on her neck, causing her to moan loudly(A/N: Forgive me, I'm listening to my playlist and Filthy came on and I couldn't help myself heh)"Branch! Rosie is asleep, we can't. Plus we don't have any protection." He smirked and pulled out a small bottle. "Says who? And our walls are soundproof. It'll be fine. Please? At least once?" She smirked back and took a pill. "Fine. Just one time." He grinned seductively and pinned her down on the bed, planting kisses down her neck eventually going down. Look's like they're not getting much sleep tonight.
There ya go Chipmunklover16. I've said this before but I'll say it again: I'm still waiting for requests. And sorry I didn't publish this sooner. It was requested what, two months ago? I've just been extremely busy with school and once I finally did start it I had extreme writers' block with creating a title for this. Hope you enjoyed this crappy and poorly named one shot.
